Chapter 52: The time is now!
"Bolt it. Now."
"We'll meet you at the stairs. Find the others, and stay together. We'll explain the plan in a sec. Okay?"
You and Sean dipped your heads and scurried out the door. Sirens wailed and gunshots echoed in the distance, closer than before.
The others met you by the stairs. Everyone else had their weaponry in plain sight.
Wade kept a pistol in a pouch on his belt, Molly donned a paintball gun. In his hands, Bob held a Nerf gun. Mark kept two silver daggers sheathed at his sides, and eyes that told you everything he felt.
You and Sean on the other hand... had nothing.
'Are we going into "battle" unarmed? She'll kill us in an instant!'
Barry and Lauryn walked out a moment later, each carrying their backpack on one shoulder. "The time is now."
"Buh bada buhh. Ba ba bu bumm." Sean tried to mimic the John Cena song. Lauryn bobbed her head to his tune, before getting a light smack on the stomach from Barry.
You coughed awakwardly, hoping that the Irishman would take the hint.
"Uh, I mean- what the shite! What're we supposed ta do? She'll kill us strait away! (Y/n) and I have NOTHIN'!"
"That's not ENTIRELY true." Barry confirmed, giving your bag a light kick.
You unzipped the black bag, the zipper getting caught half way across. You struggled like a preschooler trying to zip up their winter coats, for a moment before unveiling the contents.
'Flares?'
"Sorry ta break it to ya, but this isn't Jurassic World. What're flares going ta do?" Sean asked picking one up.
"These are the last resort. Don't use them unless you absolutely need to. Until then, here." Barry handed the two of you heavy vests, most likely bulletproof.
"We aren't aiming to kill, we're aiming to stall. Even so, DON'T HIT HER TORSO." Lauryn emphasized taking off her glasses and putting a different pair on. She snapped the straps around the back of her head and slid the thicker lenses over her eyes.
The sirens suddenly stopped. Everything was quiet. You and everyone else didn't say one word.
It was so quiet, you could've heard a fly fart.
Until the sound of squealing tires shattered the silence like breaking a glass at an old folks home.
"Rooftop. Now!" Lauryn ordered. She pointed with her blade to the staircase leading to the roof of the apartment complex. "She'll be here-"
A gunshot split the air.
"-right about now."
She is indeed fanfictional me. Oh, and the time isn't now. It's next chapter.
