Darkness

Dreadwolf awoke to the noise of clashing swords. He stood up quickly, his staff in his hands. Bane was battling against five living skeletons. He blocked desperately, but they were overwhelming him. Dreadwolf snarled, incanting a spell. One skeleton froze into solid ice, and then he incanted a second spell, the next engulfed by a fireball. He kept chanting different spells, the skeletons dying against his deadly spells.

"come on, Bane. We should make our way back to town today, and log out."

"All right." Bane nodded, murmuring a brief incantation. It was a spell that Swordsman had access to, one that increased the speed of them and their nearby allies. They ran toward town, darting past enemies, only focused on getting back. They needed food to sustain themselves in this world as well. They soon made it back to town. Dreadwolf welcomed the familiar scents and sounds, but he knew he had to log out. "See ya, Bane." He sighed, logging out of the game.

     He walked downstairs. I wish I could use magic in this world... He thought to himself. But sadly, it's only in Kazana. Bane already tried it, actually. Jordan chuckled to himself. He sighed. (Remember, Jordan=Dreadwolf IRL. Just makin sure ya remember.) He made himself some food, and made his way back up to his room. He already missed the feeling of his gear, and the smooth oak staff in his hand. He missed how familiar Kazana had already become. Heh. Just ten minutes away from the game, and he already wanted to go back. Wow, he was becoming obsessed with it. But he had to go to bed. After all, even though he'd been laying down, he had to sleep sometime. He hadn't slept in a few days, actually... But he still felt awake. Tomorrow, he wouldn't be able to log in. He would have to go exercise a little. He had to keep his body at least fairly fit. He laid down in bed, falling asleep soon.

    He awoke in the morning, sitting up. It felt odd, to have awoken in his own bed, and to be in his room. He sighed. He was getting obsessed with Kazana... Oh well. He stood up, and decided to go to the gym and try to exercise himself a little. His body was getting weaker after doing nothing for so long

*                                                                                         *                                                                                 *

    He walked slowly toward the gym, passing street signs and houses. It almost seemed odd to be back here, instead of in the forests and plains of Kazana. He was broken out of thought by the presence of three people blocking his way. Damn! It's them. He thought to himself. These were people who had bullied him, and often tried to hurt him. Most of the time, he got away without incident, but sometimes they'd caught him. He tried to avoid that as often as possible.

   "So you're here. Finally, you come out of your house. What's wrong, were you crying all this time?" One of them said.

   "Get out of my way." Jordan looked at them.

"Or what? Will you cry again?" Another laughed.

Jordan felt calm, collected. He shouldnt be feeling calm... He should be afraid. But he knew he'd faced much worse in Kazana. He tried to remind himself that this wasn't Kazana, he wasn't as good at fighting here. But he still remained calm, ready to fight.

"You wanna fight me? Fine." He growled, a pulsing feeling spreading through his body. A slight breeze picked up, and he glared at them. They glared back for a moment before leaping at him.

"Bellum furor." Jordan growled, speaking the words instinctively. They weren't in his spellbook back in Kazana... And why was he trying to cast a spell here??

"What was that?" One of them laughed, but then they all looked stunned. Jordan got into a battle stance, not of a mage, but of a swordsman. He darted forth, his hands glowing blue, electricity sparking along his knuckles and his fingers. He punched one of them in the stomach. This one was almost a foot taller than him, built heavily. He growled as the boy crumpled to the ground, punching the next in the side of the head. He fell to the ground, unconscious. The third one rushed at him, trying to hit Jordan, but he stepped to the side and slammed his fist into the person's back, sending him to the ground as well. The glow faded from his hands, and he looked around him, stunned. W-what...? He thought to himself. what did I do...? I cast a spell... in this world? He was stunned. No way this was happening. It had to be a dream. No way he could have his in-game abilities here... Why did he keep calling it a game? It had already been shown that the game was real. Pain from his injuries actually passed into this world. Exhaustion as well. Everything passed over. Was it possible....? He looked down at himself. He hadn't gotten any less fit. He was actually in better health than before he'd joined Kazana. How was this possible...? Was the game more closely linked to the real world than he thought...? He knew one thing for sure. He had to keep these abilities of his under control. He couldn't use them here. That would spell certain disaster. If he kept using them in the real world, people would notice, and it'd all be over. He turned around and walked back to his house. He had to figure out what was going on. Suddenly, he remembered what the person had said when he'd told them it wasn't a game. He'd said that if you chose to stay, but then tried to abandon your quest later, you would never be able to escape, that in their dreams they would find themselves in Kazana. Was it possible that his magic crossed over, but no one else's...? He remembered how he'd instinctively cast unknown spells back in Kazana, without ever learning them. He remembered their devastating effects on his enemies. What was going on...? Why could he do all this?
