"What are you saying, Alex?" Nicole said, staring at the boy who she - thought she - loved.

"I - I'm saying that - that -" Alex stuttered, looking away from his friends as he spoke. "That the me you're seeing right now, the singer, the one who was nothing to worry about, the kid with brown hair and brown eyes? He isn't real. Alex Leoni isn't real."

Sam gave a weak laugh.

"What are you talking about? Of course he's real, you're real, you're standing right in front of us!"

"There's only one thing that's real about me," he said, looking at them apologetically, "and that's my eyes."

For a moment, Nicole remembered the moment she truly fell in love with him, gazing into his eyes.

His eyes that held hardship, that seemed as though they had seen many things they shouldn't have, that looked far too old for a teenager.

She'd fallen in love with his eyes.

Not him.

"And besides," he continued after a moment of silence, "I think I'm going back to the UK anyway. I've finished everything I need to do here. I - I swore I'd go back after, and I've waited half a year because of you guys, but - I have a friend back home, and I can't leave him."

And the other four just looked at him with betrayal in their eyes, staring into his eyes - the only real thing about him.
