4 - Detention

Alex and the others left to go to the principal's meeting. They saw other students walking into the meeting, and got ready for boredom (although Alex was actually going to try and pay attention).

"Oh brother," Christian whispered. He looked at the student of the year picture on the wall. "I hope I'm never student of the year if that's how you have to look."

Just then, the principal walked into the room. It seemed that lots of new students were joining, so he had decided to do his welcome speech again. The four friends Alex had managed to make decided to zone out, having listened to it before.

"Good morning," the principal said (Alex thought it was something like Principal Ferrari or something like that).

All of the students replied. "Good morning."

"Welcome to the Melsher Institute, a school of excellence, known at international level for the quality of teaching we offer."

A girl leaned forward and waved slightly at Christian. He smiled back, laughing slightly.

"This," Ferrari continued, "is achieved with discipline and commitment. As we begin this journey together, improving the school's ranking will be one of our first challenges.

"Diligence."

Alex found himself zoning out.

"Perseverance."

Ferrari's voice almost seemed to echo.

"Sacrifice."

He had done plenty of sacrifice by coming to this place.

"Discipline."

He didn't think he needed anymore discipline, thank you very much.

"Commitment."

He was pretty much committed (forced, more like) to his job.

"Dedication."

Alex was starting to sweat. He hated being in a confined room for too long.

"And to guarantee you a great future, because from here renowned professionals will be born, and future elected officials will be born..."

"Born with leg cramps," Alex couldn't help but mutter. Everyone around him laughed, and he scratched the back of his neck sheepishly.

"I didn't hear what you said," Ferrari said, glancing at Alex.

"Er..." Alex stuttered, trying to act like a teenager who just got caught (the worst part was that he had to try and act it out, rather than it being automatic).

"Is there something you would like to share?" Ferrari seemed to know anyway, but Alex wanted to keep quiet. He knew he would end up saying something he'd regret.

Actually, yes. I'm a teenage spy, who isn't supposed to be here and I'm being forced to do this otherwise my whole life will be unprotected and I'll get killed within a day.

Ferrari left it.

"Unfortunately, only those who are committed will make it to the top. I would like to have your name, if you would?" He directed the question toward Alex.

"Alex R- Alex Leoni," he said, almost slipping up. No matter how many of those missions he did, he could never get used to a different name.

After that, Alex and his group of friends (who he knew wouldn't see him much, after he went back to England) walked out and Alex sighed, leaning against the railing for the stairs.

"Nothing like the first day. I couldn't have gotten off to a worst start," he partly lied. It hadn't been his first day, but he had burnt down the science department at his old school.

"He'll forget you in two days, you'll see," Nicole tried to cheer him up. "I wonder where Room 1A is?"

"Uh, thanks for helping me out earlier," the boy from before came over, smiling at them. "I must have forgotten my bully repellent this morning."

They laughed at his - honestly bad - joke.

"That's what friends are for, aren't they?" Nicole smiled. "I'm Nicole. This is Alex."

"Sam," the boy grinned. Alex knew he was wondering why he didn't just say his name himself, but he didn't question it. Polite guy.

The girl who waved at Christian earlier walked over.

"If you're looking for Room 1A, it's down the stairs to the right," she smiled.

"I have to go there too!" Sam exclaimed, happy he would be in the same class as his - hopefully - friends.

The three walked off down the stairs.

"Christian, let's go!" Nicole called. Christian smirked at the girls he was talking to.

"See you."

"Alright, let's go," Alex said shortly, wanting to finish his mission so he could go back home.

"Uh huh.... someone doesn't wanna leave his fans waiting," Nicole joked.

The girl walked over to one of the seniors who was bullying Sam before.

"Finished," she smirked.

"Great, Linda," he grinned. "I knew that my girl could do it."

"I sent them to the old section of the school. It'll take them forever to find their class! And their professor's the Scorpion." She faked sympathy. "Poor things!"

"Now they know who's really in charge here," he sneered. They chuckled darkly and left their separate ways.

"It has to be this way," Christian said firmly.

"Are you sure? There's no one here," Alex pretended to sound worried. He was alright with it in reality. He needed to search the school, and with his Rider luck, he had managed to find four friends who were into exploring places.

"We are really late, guys." Sam sounded worried.

"Maybe it's this door right here," Christian whispered, pushing it open.

They entered the door, looking around the place. It seemed abandoned.

"This place is empty," Emma hissed, looking around worriedly.

"It's been abandoned," Alex stated.

"Incredible!" Christian grinned.

"Should we turn back?" Emma asked, concerned.

"If you ask me, I'd vote yes." Sam seemed to want to go back more than the rest of them did, although that was most likely because he was a nerd and didn't want to get a bad record.

"Sounds to me like someone's scared." Nicole stared him down jokingly.

"Scared? Of course not," Emma scoffed, then looked hesitant. "I think we should turn back anyway, I hate spiders!"

"Watch out, there's one in your hair!" Nicole pointed out. Emma started screaming and patting her hair in fear. Everybody (although for Alex it was forced) started laughing when they realised Nicole was pulling her leg.

"Actually, I was just kidding," Nicole grinned.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to Nicole's sense of humour," Christian assured her.

"Hmm, no entry? I like that," Alex smirked.

"Why is it when you see a sign that says no entry, you wanna go in?" Nicole had noticed that he seemed eager. Alex just hoped that didn't effect how things worked in the future.

"Er, I think we should go back. We're already late for class on the first day of school." Sam seemed to be really concerned now. Alex merely ignored him.

"We can't go without checking it out," Alex whispered, trying to keep his voice down so others couldn't find them.

"We'll come back later on," Christian amended. Alex supposed that was the best he would get.

"Hold on!" Nina exclaimed, making four of them jump. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Is Mr Strozzi's classroom around here somewhere?" Alex asked, acting innocent. The other four glanced at him curiously for a moment, wondering how he could lie so easily, but went along with it.

"Oh, the Scorpion?" Nina asked.

"Huh?"

"Oh, the students have given him the nickname over the years, however I would never call Mr Scorpion the Scorpion - I, I mean Mr Strozzi." The five started laughing. "Come on, less laughing and more walking! The classroom is back this way and you do by belong here. Come on! A little faster, left, right, left, right. Pick it up, pick up the pace!"

Nina's voice grew more and more faint when Alex realised what direction they were heading and sped up.

In Strozzi's class, two girls were whispering and giggling in the second to back row.

"Silence," the Scorpion ordered. "I will not tolerate another interruption. In my class, flies do not fly, nobody gets distracted for one second, and no one is allowed to be late."

With Alex's luck, the five of them entered the room, late, moments after he had said that.

The class laughed.

"This is funny to you, then?" Strozzi didn't seem too pleased (although who would be, with five students who were late to their class). "You five, to your seats immediately. Oh, and by the way, you are in detention. You will stay for an additional hour after school."

Alex stared at him, his face hardening. How could he search around if he had detention?

"But..." he began, before stopping himself before he could ruin it.

"Make it two hours now."

Never mind ruining it.

"No, but it wasn't our fault!" Nicole tried protesting. Alex knew it wouldn't work. This teacher obviously didn't care for his students.

"I see. Three hours in detention," he chuckled. "Three hours in the first ten minutes of the new year! I believe that's a new record."

Alex felt like responding.

Actually, I've gone to a school that within the first few weeks of you arriving, they replace you with mindless clones so that they can take over the world, whilst you're trapped in a cage below.

It probably wouldn't go down well.

He settled with whispering to Christian and Nicole.

"Yeah, a record for bad luck."

"Or for nastiness," Nicole replied, staring at the girl who had given them instructions earlier. Alex followed her gaze, immediately understanding what she was going for.

"Alright," Strozzi continued where he left off, "as I was saying, in this class you will work hard. This," he gave each of them a large book, "is the assignment to complete and study for the next lesson. Also, those who were late have two days to hand in a project on the climates and microclimates of the continents. Since there are five of you, each of you will choose a continent."

He chuckled again.

"And to make sure you aren't tempted to copy and paste something from the computer," he went on, "each one of you will be required to hand write your own report. With perfect handwriting, or you will have to rewrite it. Am I clear?"

Alex was beginning to hate the man more every second.

Although the project wouldn't be too hard. After all, he always handed a report to MI6 after one of his missions, handwritten, so this couldn't be much harder.

During lunch, Alex found time to complain about Strozzi. He had an image to keep up, after all.

"The Scorpion? He's more like a cross between a piranha, a shark and a - a cobra!"

The other four laughed and Alex forced a grin. It was too bad that it looked real.

"Now I get it," Emma frowned.

"Why they call him the Scorpion?" Alex asked, he wanted to know that himself.

"No, those two." She pointed at Linda and the senior boy. "They're as rotten as the food here."

"Beauty and the Beast. A classic," Christian smirked.

"No, witch and the beast is more like it," Nicole snorted.

Linda walked over and Christian glared at her.

"It's your fault, thanks a lot," he said.

"I swear, it was nothing like that, really!" She pretended, gazing upon him with obvious adoration. "I thought Room 1A was that way. I'm so sorry you were punished for that misunderstanding."

Alex sighed.

"Excuse me, do you have smoothies?" asked Nicole to the lunch person.

"No," he replied, "sorry."

"Okay then. I'll take an orange juice then please," Nicole smiled.

"What you do with a soccer ball is, like... super!" Linda smiled coyly. "I'm Linda, and you?"

Alex frowned, searching through his memory banks. Soccer... is football. Right, right.

"Christian," he smiled. He turned back around, grabbed his food and followed the others to a table, leaving a frowning Linda behind him.

"So Christian has an admirer," Emma commented.

"She'll have to get in line. They all like him; but he doesn't want a girlfriend," Nicole replied.

"And... Alex?" Emma asked, then thought a bit. "Actually - you don't know him very well, do you? Sorry, I just thought - you seemed close, so - I'm rambling."

"Oh, no, it's fine. Alex what?" Nicole asked, slightly dreading the answer.

"Is he dating?" Emma said, hoping the answer would be what she hoped.

"No. Why?" Nicole knew why. She just didn't want to admit it. Emma's heart burst out of her chest.

"Nothing, I don't know. I mean, the way he looks at me - I'm not used to guys doing that." Emma confided.

"Really? Why wouldn't guys wanna look at you?" Nicole seemed shocked.

"No, really! Until the end of last year I was different. Every day I was upset about something. Because of my braces, or because of how my clothes fit. Because I wasn't invited to a party. Have you ever felt like that?" Emma inquired, spilling her soul out to this girl who seemed easy to talk to.

"Of course. It's just that I've never turned into a butterfly," Nicole joked. "I'm still a caterpillar!"

"But a very cute caterpillar," Emma grinned.

Later that day, the students were all sitting down in Belli's class, waiting for the man to come in.

"Good morning, guys!" he greeted. Everyone who had sat down immediately stood up, greeting him back.

"Good morning."

"No, there's no need, sit down," Belli smiled, gesturing for them to sit down. They did so. "So, what do you say we get started with a bit of," he grabbed his iPad and pressed a button, releasing a guitar sound, "music!"

Everyone gasped in shock, then grinned happily.

"Now, you may have noticed that there are quite a few rules in this school. Well, I have mine too. The first one is; it is absolutely forbidden to - not have in at school."

Alex found he seemed to be an easy teacher. That may help him in the future.

"This is why we'll always start class with five minutes of music." He turned it up slightly.

The principal walked into the room at that moment. Alex tried to hide a groan, but he stood up along with the rest of the students.

"Excuse me? What exactly is going on in here?"

"My apologies," Belli said, although Alex could detect the lie. "I was testing my speakers and I must have accidentally raised the volume."

"I see, but we do have rules here. Such as no music."

"Oh, I understand. I was only introducing a small piece of music so I could -"

"Professor," Ferrari interrupted, "I would be grateful if you could come to my office later so we could both go over the rules."

"Of course."

"Good day, then," he addressed the students.

"Good day."

The students sat down quietly.

"Well, at least we know the speakers on my tablet are working alright." Belli joked.

In detention later that day, Alex felt he could never be less bored. He'd rather be attacked by a mad man than be in detention (and that was saying something).

Luckily, Nina was taking the detention, and she was an alright person.

"Let's get one thing straight," she said, standing up from her position on the chair. "I wanna be clear to you that if you get detention again, you'll be here 'till you're thirty. Like Bob here! Tell 'em!" She gestured to the skeleton. "How long you been here, Bob?"

The five laughed quietly.

"Never mind. I had loads of things to do today, and yet I have to stay here to act as your nanny. Okay?" She made a huffing sound. "I hate detention. At least you've got some homework to do, for me it's boring."

Alex spoke up.

"I've got an idea. We give our homework to you, and we'll be the ones who are bored." He gave a smirk and Nina gave a fake laugh.

"Do you actually want to graduate?"

"Yeah."

"Then do your own homework. I barely passed PE."

"Yes, but how can we do it all? The writing, the research?" Emma had a valid point, Alex mused.

"Do the research and then write it," Nina rolled her eyes.

"I can help you! Since it's my fault that we're here," Sam said, feeling guilty.

"It's not your fault. It's Christian's girlfriend and that beast, right?" Nicole glanced at Christian, glaring at the boy.

"Yeah, my girlfriend? In her dreams," he scoffed.

"I know... but I'm sorry," Sam apologised.

"Don't worry about it." Nicole gave Sam a smile. "If it wasn't for this, we wouldn't have met each other!"

"And we can get to know each other better for the next..." Alex checked his watch and internally groaned, "three hours. Great, right?"

Nina hushed at them, and Alex rolled his eyes, but got back to his work. He was almost finished anyway, what with being intellectually smarter than most of his peers.

Alex moved to sit next to Emma so they could listen to music together, and sat there for the next tiresome few hours.

"Wait, that's my favourite song you're listening to!" she exclaimed.

"Wow, really?" Alex grinned, thinking of a plan in his head.

There was something about this girl, something he couldn't quite come to terms with. He felt that if he got to know her better, it would benefit him. A lot.

"Mine too! I love music! It moves me."

"Since when has music moved him?" Nicole whispered to Christian, knowing that the kid the made friends with yesterday didn't seem the type to like music.

"He's just saying that to be able to talk to a girl. You need to use all possible weapons. Just ask the master," Christian smirked.

Alex looked over to a book Nicole had.

"What's that?"

"Oh, I got that from Christian. I write down all the things I like to do. A bike ride at the park... walking on the beach barefoot!"

"Scoring the winning goal!" Christian smiled dreamily.

"Doing a three page long equation in one sitting!" Sam grinned.

"When you turn on the radio and your favourite song is on!" Emma said in delight.

Finding out your guardian isn't dead, but is actually alive and being held captive against her will?

Finding a way out of tank so you won't drown?

Seeing your girlfriend for the first time in weeks - at least, when she was my girlfriend.

Alex knew these were all things that had happened to him, but since they were abnormal, he couldn't say them. He said the first thing that popped into his head.

"Making new friends!"

"When it's time to go home because detention is over, yay!" Nina grinned, spreading her arms wide. "I might've failed math, but I've been able to tell time since I was six years old. So come on, let's go!

"I'm not getting any younger here, let's go!"

The five left, and Alex remembered something the had vowed to do - and since it'd be weird to leave randomly, he'd better ask the others.

"Hey guys, let's go see what's in the forbidden zone, huh?" he asked, smiling widely.

"Yeah, let's go!" Christian agreed with him immediately. Sam hesitated.

"But if they were to catch us..."

"We'd be in big trouble," Emma finished.

"Now's the right time to go," Nicole admitted, if not to stay on Alex's good side. "Nobodies in the school anymore!"

"Okay, in that case? I'm in." Sam grinned.

"And you Emma?" Alex offered, not really caring if she went or not. At least he couldn't be accused of not asking.

"Well... if you think it's a good idea... Okay, let's go!"

They quickly snuck into the forbidden passages Nicole hushing them as they moved along.

"Did you guys hear a noise?"

"No," the other four said, although Alex was pretty sure she was pranking them. He hadn't heard anything.

"Neither did I, I was just checking."

"I - I think I should go back." Emma was hesitating.

"Don't chicken out now."

"Yeah, we all have to go!"

"Don't worry. We'll take a quick look then go," Alex promised.

He never said anything about him coming back.

They crept through the passageway, Alex silently being annoyed at the amount of noise they were making, but staying silent.

They heard a large clap of thunder.

"Hear that?" Sam gasped. "Nina told me some kids came in here and they were kicked out forever!"

"You didn't think that was important?" Emma hissed.

"I didn't wanna ruin everyone's day!"

"We can't go back now," Christian whispered, "we're about to put the ball in the net!"

"I think they're gone," Nicole said, turning back.

Alex kept his senses on anyway, checking to make sure. "Come on, quick. If it's so forbidden there's gotta be something cool back here."

"Yeah."

Alex went to open the door at the end of the corridor.

And first episode - down! Yay! That took sooo long and it's 3000+ words! They'll be really long in the future, so please don't be surprised when I take ages to update. That's about it. Bye!!!
