New Hope - Chapter Four
"So... you just... woke up?" Fuyuhiko asked Nagito as they sat around the kitchen table. A few minutes ago Hajime had called everyone to the table, and after all the initial shock, Nagito and Hajime explained what happened, with Nagito following Hajime's lead.
"Yeah! I was in the middle of placing down his cake and leaving, and he just got up!" Hajime explained, making Nagito raise an eyebrow, but not comment. "And on his birthday too! What a miracle, huh?"
"Yeah..." Fuyuhiko muttered.
"Were you talking to him, Hajime?" Sonia bluntly asked. "I was talking to Ibuki when she woke up, if you were talking to Nagito then maybe they're connected?"
"Urgh... maybe? I - I said hi as I placed the cake down and said a 'happy birthday' as I went to leave..." Hajime muttered. A small flash of hurt appeared in Nagito's eyes, making Hajime's stomach twist in guilt. He didn't understand what he was feeling, so he didn't want the others to know about it - especially since they already have a disliking towards Nagito... he didn't want the others to treat him differently...
"Yeah, when I got up, Hajime's back was facing me. I called out to him, and he spun around, so surprised! The hope that filled his eyes was wonderful to see - even if I'm undeserving of it..." Nagito said, backing up Hajime's lies.
"Why're you...?" Hajime trailed off, not wanting the others to realise he's been lying. He shook his head and continued what he was saying. "Anyway, I'm going to take Nagito to my room. We'll be there for a while, sorting out his bed and such, don't wait up for dinner."
"What do you mean Hajime?" Nagito asked, as Hajime got up and grasped his hand tightly. "I don't deserve to sleep in the same room as you. If I'm going to be that much trouble for the others and yourself then I'll just sleep outside!"
"Nope, you're coming with me." Hajime said, his hand not letting go of Nagito's. A small flush spread across Nagito's cheeks but they were both out of view from Ibuki, Sonia, Kazuichi, Akane and Fuyuhiko before any of them noticed, and since Hajime wasn't facing towards Nagito, his tomato imitation went undiscovered. As Nagito tried persuading Hajime to let him sleep outside, his blush slowly faded from his face, a soft smile remaining.
Until they reached Hajime's bedroom.
"I... I'm not sure I'm understanding you, Hajime!" Nagito said, mind wild with ideas and varied conclusions. "I'd assume you'd be bringing me to a secluded place to kill me, but we're not in the killing game anymore... why don't you want me to sleep outside?"
"Wha..." Hajime decided to ignore the 'killing' part of the question. "Why else? Because it's unhealthy. What if it rained? You'd be soaked and catch a cold."
"Then... not that I mind... why am I sleeping with you, and not in a room as far away from everyone else as possible?"
"Because Ibuki is having severe flashbacks and nightmares regarding her death. I figured even if you didn't end up having nightmares, you'd appreciate the company."
"Oh..." Nagito trailed off, considering Hajime's answer. "Even though you have to share with trash like me?"
"Firstly, you're not trash. Secondly yes, even so."
This time Hajime did notice the soft smile and flush adorning Nagito's facial features but decided not to comment on it.
Once Nagito ruled Hajime's answer as satisfactory, he made his way over to the corner of the room, where spare supplies lay, and grabbed a blanket and pillow.
"Oh are you c-" Hajime cut himself off from asking Nagito whether he was cold or not when Nagito started laying the pillow and blanket on the wooden floor, as far away from Hajime's bed as possible while still remaining in the room. "... what're you doing?"
"I... I assumed you'd want me as far away from you as possible. You're being kind enough already by letting me stay in the room with you, so I shouldn't force you to stay close to me..." Nagito replied, starting to crawl underneath the thin blanket.
"N - Nagito! This room doesn't even have heating, you'd be so cold! And why're you trying to sleep anyways, you don't even have pyjamas on? Please get up..." Hajime sighed, concerned for Nagito's health.
"I don't have any pyjamas..." Nagito said, stumbling back upwards. "I - I guess I'll sleep on this rug over here then?" He said, moving a bit closer to Hajime, and kneeling on the rug, starting to lay out the blanket again. Hajime power walked towards him and caught his wrist mid-movement.
"Please don't Nagito. Here, use my spare pyjamas." Hajime said, releasing his grip of Nagito, and chucking him his spare pyjamas.
As Nagito got dressed - Hajime turned away so he doesn't see Nagito get changed - they continued their conversation.
"So... I'm sleeping on the couch then?" Nagito said, pulling off his jacket and top.
"No! Seriously Nagito, you're as important as the rest of th - us. You shouldn't have to sleep outside, or on the floor, or a couch, or anything."
"But then... where do I sleep?" Nagito quietly spoke, pulling up his trouser legs.
"In the bed with me obviously."
Nagito pulled the rest of his top on with a 'pop!' and collapsed on the ground at the same time, face a deep shade of red.
"In... b - bed... with you?" He muttered awkwardly, turning his head up to lock eye contact with Hajime. "Not - not that I'd mind, as I'd be glad to be useful in any way - even in... that way - but I don't think you should waste yourself on someone horrible like me..."
Hajime's face also flushed, finally understanding what Nagito meant.
"Wha - no! No, Nagito, no! I - I meant that we'd just be sleeping. Not... you know..." He trailed off, clapping his red cheeks with his hands. "I - no! I... haven't done that before with... with anyone, so..." Hajime trailed off before realising the rest of Nagito's previous sentence. "Not that it's got anything to do with you! I wouldn't... I wouldn't be comfortable doing... doing that with anyone! It's not you - you don't look bad at all, you look really handsome and I wouldn't just say that about any-" Hajime gasped, cutting himself off as he realised what he just said. With a shaky motion, he moved his head to glance at Nagito.
Everything Hajime said was true, but as his eyes locked onto Nagito's watery ones, face flushed and a small, cute smile decorating his face, Hajime felt... really spontaneous.
"Ah!" Hajime muttered, violently shaking his head, and heading out of the room. Before the door shut, he blocked it with his foot and turned back to Nagito.
"Nagito, I'm heading out for a minute. Don't leave the room unless it's an emergency. I promise I won't be long. I'll return with some snacks we can eat and then we can both hit the hay."
"O - okay..." Nagito couldn't find the energy to say anything more than that singular word, face still bright red, as the door behind Hajime swung shut.
"What...?"
What just happened?
Hey guys! I really hope you enjoyed the fluffy chapter 😊
Okay so;
With tons of effort and hard work, I have almost finished this entire story - about 30 chapters lol. I have no idea how I've been able to accomplish this so fast, but that's beside the point.
Since I don't have to worry about the updates catching up to me and stressing me out, I'm now uploading a new chapter EVERY DAY.
Hope you guys enjoy that!
But for now...
Peachy out! 😊
