Chapter 1: Broken
I dragged my somewhat heavy, tattered old suitcase behind me as I limped along the dusty road. I let my eyes wander from the diners to the gas stations and then finally to the painfully tacky sign that said Welcome to Tulsa! "Well at least I know where I am." I muttered sarcastically. I decided to take a break from lugging my bag around and threw it down on the side of the road, perching myself on top of it. I wiped my forehead as beads of sweat started to form on my brow.
I noticed two figures, one tall, one short coming towards me from a distance. I put on my iciest glare and raised an eyebrow, hoping they weren't looking for trouble. "Hey are you alright?" The smaller one asked as they came into view. He had shaggy dark hair, with bangs sweeping over his forehead, his eyes were gentle yet scared like he had been through a lot.
"Yeah. Fine." I mumbled letting my glare waver for a second. "Usually fine people aren't sitting on the side of the road." The tall one said matter-of-factly. He had dirty blond hair, icy blue eyes, and a never ending smirk. I rolled my eyes and said with some sass, "Look who's talking." I looked him up and down with a look of distaste. "Hey we were just trying to help smart-" "Dallas stop, she obviously is too stubborn to ask for help, let's just be on our way."
They turned around and started to walk away. I am not stubborn! I'll show them! I thought to myself. "Hey wait!" They turned around. "Um maybe I could use some help." I said crossing my arms in front of my chest.
The brown eyed boy smiled knowingly and I suddenly realized he had just used reverse psychology.
