Chapter 5

I had a family event yesterday but I still made sure to complete the chapter and then forgot that it needs to be published. So now, 24hrs later I am apologising for being late. Forgive my carelessness.

Enjoy:)

Confusion-a state that brings frowns and thoughts that run faster than light. It is a state where we often become judgemental and start to knit stories of our own. In the few seconds that Alessia and Haajar got they bubbled up various assumptions in various genres but the one who was closer to the reality was Alessia, maybe due to her experience or maybe due to the face Raiyan held.

"Start from the beginning and leave no detail, " Alessia instructed Raiyan who quietly shook his head.

"My sister-in-law has put our family house on sale but it isn't hers to do that. It's our house and no one gets to take it away from us."

"True.  She cannot. Any reason why she is doing that? She didn't inform you all about it?"

"She didn't but to be fair we are not on talking terms. Nevertheless, she cannot do that."

Alessia raised her eyebrows and observed him for a moment. Then shaking her head said, "True. Do you have the original document under your name or your father's maybe?"

"Yes, " his eyes fell on Haajar's phone which illuminated suddenly. " I have to leave now. Sorry, I am working today. Can I have an appointment with you later? What time suits you? I will bring all the documents."

"Sure, sure. Anytime, just give me a call. Until then we will start working on the case," Alessia replied with a smile.

"Thank you? How much is the fee?"

"We will talk about everything else later. For now, focus on your day. Do not worry a lot. See you soon."

"Thank you." He smiled at her and gave a nod to Haajar before he stood up and left the Cafe. Haajar waited for him to leave before she frowned and looked at Alessia. "He is an acquaintance of my cousins so I thought he was a good human if not the best. He turned out darker than I thought."

"Why did you say so? What makes you think like that?"

"His brother just died. His sister-in-law must be grieving. How can he do that? Even if they weren't on talking terms. Even if she is evil. She still is someone to him. A human at least."

"Maybe he has a reason. Many he has many reasons. We never know what and why people do things. This job will teach you how you and your assumptions are always wrong. Anyway, get as much information as you can on him and his situation. Meanwhile, I will start looking into old cases and rulings related to the case. Get to work. By the end of the day, we need to have at least three things in our hands to know that we can win the case."

As soon as they returned to their office they got to work. They did their research, called people, went through books and reviewed a few old cases. By the time the clock hit seven they had more to say than they thought they would.

"So, start from the beginning," Alessia said, "How long have your cousins known him and how well do they know him?"

"They met twelve years ago. My cousin's sister-in-law was set to marry Raiyan's brother but it was more twisted than you think. He was the son of a powerful businessman who had an influence on Noor's father's business.  He had a girlfriend who his father did not approve of, so he made a deal. Not a deal, blackmail, he told her he would destroy her father's business if she refuses to marry him. And he wasn't planning to marry and be a nice husband. He was going to still keep his girlfriend but use Noor baji to make his father happy to keep the family money! She got scared and said yes but her cousin found that out and they made a plan with their grandfather. Somehow they managed to lock Raiyan's brother in a room on the wedding day.  Noor got married to her cousin and no one knew about it until the Nikhha was done. He would have blackmailed her again if she was still single so her cousin thought if she is married she is safe, hence the Nikhha. All this was done and helped by Raiyan. He was the one who contacted Noor and helped her find a solution. He went against his brother just to help an innocent girl. "

"That shows character. Good going, what else?"

"Then a few years later he contacted my cousin and asked for a job because his brother took over the business and kicked him out. Since then he has been working with them. He is pretty calm and quiet person, who doesn't share much. Apparently, life made him a close shell. But their review is very good, they all like him."

"He sounds nice but wronged. But that does not immune him from being wrong at the moment. Any idea why he is filing a case against his sister-in-law?"

"No one seems to have any idea. In fact, I don't think they know we talked let alone about the lawsuit."

"Okay, Okay, Okay! So let's do this! Let's take the case. He is our first client!"

"You thought of rejecting him? Why? Because we have way too many clients to handle?"

"Because justice is for innocents. Money is for garbage. Schedule a meeting with him tomorrow. Let's get to know the whole story and started working. Also, I searched and printed a few family and property cases for you to study but leave them in the office. Study tomorrow. It's done for today. If you find anything on him then let me know but nothing else is necessary. We have enough knowledge."

Soon, the windows were closed and the lights were switched off. Alessia dropped Haajar home before heading home. Haajar entered a dark room, realising she was the first one to reach. She freshened up, cooked rice, made Salad but was still alone in the home. Picking up the phone she called her mother who did not respond, so she called Rahemat but before the phone could be answered the door opened and they entered the house. "We are home," Rahemat said before closing the door. "We stopped at Sufyaan's house, his father was a little sick yesterday."

"What happened to him?" Haajar frowned as she said, "Is he fine now?"

"He is. It was just fever. Nothing serious, " Valiqa said as she started to remove her Abaya, "it had been a long time so we thought of visiting him. He was asking about you. You should go and visit him soon."

"I will go tomorrow. Why don't you change? Let's have dinner."

"Yeah, I will go and change. Did you make rice?" Haajar shook her head making her mother leave the room with a smile. Rahemat watched his wife go and then came closer to Haajar. "How was your day?  I hope you are not stressing a lot. Trust me, everything will be fine. Life is much more than the issues we live. Do not think too much."

Haajar shook her head, "I am trying my best. Insha'Allah everything will be fine soon."

"It will be. Now, tell me what are you doing this Saturday?"

"Saturday? Nothing much. I think I will be home. Why did you ask? Are we going somewhere?"

"No, no. Only if you want. I was thinking we can do something together. To relax the mind and just enjoy. Maybe we can have everyone over. Or maybe something else. You can pick."

"Oh okay. But it is not necessary."

"It is. I am having a very tough week. I would love to relax."

"Okay. Let's do that then. I will think of something and arrange everything. If you want to arrange it you can."

"No, no. You do it. I am fine with everything. I look forward to it."

Haajar smiled to which Rahmat replied with a bigger smile. He then stood up and walked to his room. Soon they were back and found a dining table ready for them. They had a clam but pleasant dinner had a little chat after which they departed to their rooms and closed their doors. Soon the eyes were shut and then opened again to welcome a new ray of hope. The first thing Haajar did was to reach her office and start going through the cases Alessia had printed for her. One after the other she kept turning the pages and before she could realise the sun was hovering above her head. Then the clock hit one, bring Raiyan to their vicinity.

"I am sorry, I am a little late. I had to drop a proposal at an office which is at the other end of the city. Is it a good time for me to come?"

"You talk a lot at the door, I wonder what you will do when you come in?" Alessia said making him smile. "Please come in and yes, every time is a good time. You can contact us anytime, except for the night. We strictly do not work after work hours but for a fancy dinner, we are always available. Please sit on the sofa. Our office is a little furniture deficit but we are working on it. What would you like tea or coffee?"

"Nothing."

"Do not be so formal. This is not a place for that. Have some water and then we will begin." Despite his protest, Alessia made him drink some water and then they started their briefing. "Answer these questions. Why do you want to go against your sister-in-law? Why is she being mean, and how do you want this to work? Simple questions, you do not have to think a lot. Just simply answer the questions without trying to make sense."

"Okay. I want to file the case because I do not want her to sell the house. It is not hers to sell it. Why she wants to sell it, we will have to ask her for I do not understand nor do I see a reason to do that. And how I want this to work, I am not sure, I just want to keep that house but yes I would not want that to be done unethically and I do not want to play evil, no matter what. I just want what is mine and I do not want to banish her or her children from using it, they can use it and stay there whenever they want. I just want to make sure it stays ours."

"Okay. Good motive. Have you talked to her?"

"I did, I asked her why but she refused to reply to any questions. I waited for a week but when I still didn't get a reply I sent her a message that I am going to the court and then two days later I acquired your number. That is the whole story. Is there anything else you need to know?"

"Yes, there can be an out of court settlement where you both can compromise and settle for something which makes everyone happy. Will you be fine with that?"

"If that means the house stays then yes. I do not wish to cause her or anyone for that matter any trouble. The motive stays the same no matter the route."

"Fair enough. I think we have what we need. If there are any queries then we will contact you. Just give us your basic details, your full name, address, email id and all that. There is a form that you need to fill, nothing else. I will get it to you." Alessia quickly stood up from the chair and started to walk towards the table near the window. Soon Raiyan turned to Haajar and softly said, "What would be your fees?'

Haajar raised her eyebrows, looked to her right and then to her left. "You are our first client, you will receive a special discount. Do not worry about money. We do not work for it, we work for service. I just remembered I am due to reach a place! Damn. I am so sorry Raiyan. I will have to leave."

"I will be leaving too. I need to go back to work."

"Then let's go. Haajar, lock the door properly. Do not let strangers in. We are going bye-bye."

Haajar held a smile on her face until the door was shut, then she shook her head and frowned. "We don't work for money? I work for money! I work for money! We don't work for money?" she sighed, "I cannot afford her. I need to marry someone rich. Someone very, very rich."

Shaking her head she collected all the papers together and kept them on the sofa, then she went to her water bottle but before she could reach the bag her phone started to ring. She returned to the sofa and picked up her phone. "Indian number?" Her spirit boasted as she answered the call. " Hello?"

"Haajar." Haajar frowned as a familiar voice made its way to her ear. "Haajar?"

"Yeah? Who is this?"

"You didn't recognise me haji?"

Hajar's eyes widened abruptly and she gasped loudly. "Abba?"
