Chapter 4
Haajar looked to her left and then to her right before she started walking. She checked her phone but no message made her dial a number. Before it could be answered she saw her companion and walked to her. "You are early today. Did you wake up early? Or did you not sleep?"
"I can never do that. I need to sleep, even if it is for an hour." Amal said with a shake of her head, "I woke up early and I wonder why? If I had not done that I wouldn't have had an argument with mom."
"Why did you argue with mom?"
"She was in a bad mood so she yelled at me. Why do parents do that? Is it our fault that they have a problem? This is unfair. They can yell at us but if we do not listen to it quietly we are evil! This is so unfair."
"World is unfair but maybe she had something on her mind. Why did you argue? You should have just let it be."
"I never start it, I just reply. She started it."
"You didn't have to reply. We all have bad days, we all yell for no reason. Sometimes things are just like that. You cannot always reply, that's just going to upset both of you. Early morning she was upset about something that means something that matters was wrong. Yes, she was wrong but sometimes let it go. You cannot hold the fire always."
"Same applies to her you know. She can let it go too."
"It does, it really does but Amal she does a lot for you and you know that. Yes, that does not give her the license to be rude but you do that as well and don't say no I have seen it. So sometimes we must let it go because sometimes all humans lose their minds. I do that too and we don't even realise we did that. So let it go because sooner than later you will do that to someone else. Just be normal when you go home. Don't be angry. She won't feel good if you leave home angry."
"She will just be angry, not guilty."
"And you know anger isn't a great feeling. Let go Amal. Let it go and feel the freedom."
"What freedom? Sometimes I do not understand you."
"I do not understand myself what will you understand but you tell me do you feel okay?" Amal raised her eyebrows with a shrugged. "You have too much anger in you darling, too much."
"I know, I might burst one day."
"We will open the lid before that, do not worry."
"You are the only one who worries. I do not care nor does anyone else! Why do you force me to come for a walk daily? I do not like it! Why?" She frowned as she said that.
"To release your anger in nature," Haajar said spreading her arms around.
"And that way I will release it all?"
"No, but today's quota is done so you will have a better day."
"I highly doubt."
"I highly know. Come on let's run, come on!" Amal groaned and protested but Haajar pulled her and soon they were smiling as they ran. Sharp at seven they left the park and headed home together. Haajar accompanied Amal home for she knew her nature and was afraid a new fire would be shot if left alone.
"Haajar Khala! Please tell me if this colour looks too loud? Does it bother your eyes?" Keyaan greeted her by turning his laptop.
"At least say salam before you start to bore people," Amal said before dropping on the chair. "No one cares about the colour. It is just a school project. Why work so much?"
"I don't want my project to bother someone's eyes. Khala?"
"It is perfect and so is the brightness. You will do great, do not worry. Where is mom? She is not home?"
"She is getting ready for work. She and Dadajaan have some meeting today. She is nervous about it, She didn't sleep last night. She is worried about Dadajaan more than anything else. You know our grandfather is a little scary. She is too anxious. Dad was actually thinking about talking to Dadajaan, but I told him not to. Mumma won't like it."
"She won't," Haajar said with a nod and just then Kehara walked into the room. "Assalamu alaikum Baji. How are you?"
Kehara smiled before shaking her head in a yes, "Fine, fine but late. Please eat something, I am sure there is something in the kitchen but now I need to get going. Aman, please come! I am getting late. All the best Keyaan, and Amal, " She walked closer to her daughter, "sorry love. Do not forget your Calculator for today's exam. Dad is here, I will leave now. See you in the evening. Bye kids, bye Haajar."
"Bye, "Amal quickly said looking at her mother with soft eyes.
"I will get ready." Keyaan closed his laptop and stops up, "Haajar khala please wait, I will make breakfast for us. Do not go." He rushed to his room without waiting for an answer.
Haajar started to walk as she said, "It is okay, I will leave now. All the best." She then walked and sat next to Amal before saying, "It is okay. Do not think a lot."
"I want to scream at the top of my lungs," Amal whispered covering her face.
Haajar wrapped her arms around Amal as she said, "We all want to do that love, we all want to."
Haajar waited for the twins to get ready and then they all walked to her house, she went inside and the twins went to the school. Haajar quickly got ready and in thirty minutes she was on the road. Her mother kept telling her to have her breakfast but she on account of being late did not wait. She was heading to the office when she got a text from Alessia which had her current location. Knowing her well Haajar followed it without any questions. The journey was quiet with only her thoughts making the noise and before she could get bored of it, she reached the table. "Why are we meeting in a cafe? You look comfortable here. Are we here to stay?"
"At this money-sucking machine? Not at all. We are here for a client."
"We have a client!" Haajar quickly sat next to her. "Who? How did we get it? Facebook page?"
"We only have seven likes and it's just our family and friends. It's disappointing, only seven people from both sides love us! You think family means a lot and friends mean more than blood but looks like all that is a scam!"
"Client? Who is the client? How did he contact you? Did he knew you already?"
"It's Mr Jonathan, recently divorced, owes a successful business which suddenly started to fly two years ago. Turns out it wasn't his hard work but helps from a friend who also is a businessman, who now is suing him. Reason unknown, the reason for help was that his sister was dating that guy and he wanted to earn some brownie points. Now, they are no more dating so maybe he is taking everything back. But it is just an assumption. We will have to talk to the guy to find out."
"Okay, but whose sister was dating whom?"
"Businessman's sister."
"Both of them are that. Is it the client's sister or his girlfriend who caused the drama?"
"We do not have time for that, he is here. Follow me." Alessia started to walk, making Haajra run behind her. "Hello sir, I am Alessia," She extended her hand which he immediately accepted, "I am a lawyer and I am here to meet you."
"Okay, but I am afraid I am not here to meet you. "
"I know sir but I guess you will be delighted that we crossed the path. Here is my card. Oh, Haajar, I made a card for you too, it's in the car, remind me later." Haajar forced a smiled before looking at Mr Jonathan. Alessia looked at him too and smiled brightly, "I assume you need a lawyer. a lawsuit without one can be very tricky. You should only perform those stunts in presence of a professional."
Mr Jonathan laughed before saying, "You are funny but I have a lawyer."
"I know that but I assure you I am better than that scumbag. He doesn't even know how to file for a suit."
"Thank you but I think I will stick with him. Now, if you excuse me I have an urgent meeting to attend."
"All the best. I hope it goes well. Sayonara." Alessia started to walk and Haajar quietly followed her out of the cafe, once they were at a distance Haajar shook her head and said, "You didn't have an appointment with him? Why did you approach him like that? Of course, he was going to reject us, he has a lawyer and you knew that. And you said dating and sister were involved. The man was at least 60 or more, he or his sister cannot be dating anyone. I feel you had the wrong information. Our very first meeting was an absolute disaster! "
"Not at all! I think it went really well. We might have found our first client. And people of 60 date, beyond actually. Who put an age on dating? He is old but that is what will help us. Trust me they are better than youngsters who think they know everything."
"I do not know what I am feeling right now, but I am feeling something. Ah, maybe I am getting a headache again."
"Then maybe you should have some tea, come on let's go in and order one." Alessia took Haajar's hand and started to walk.
"No!" Haajar stopped her, "We are not going in there. Let us go back to your apartment."
"Office! And what is the problem? We will buy something for you and then drive away, what's the big deal? Come on."
"No, please no"
"Haajar?" A stronger voice gathered their attention. Raiyan was standing not very far from them holding a cup of coffee in his hand. "I was thinking of calling you right now."
"Oh!" Alessia exclaimed and smirked at Haajar who quickly shook her head. "She is available, her work today is done. You both have a great time together. I will leave for the office."
"He is a client, he wants to talk to us about some case, right?" Haajar looked at Raiyan who shook his head.
"Is that so? Then let's talk right now. Haajar, you are back to work!"
"I never left," Haajar said narrowing her eyes.
A few minutes later, after a few words they found themselves in the cafe, sitting at the same table they were earlier. On a round table, the order was Alessia, Raiyan, Haajar, and Alessia again. Her arms were crossed and her eyebrows were raised high, she observed Raiyan for some time before she saying," So, let me get it cleared. You want to file a case against your recently widowed sister-in-law?" Bowing his head Raiyan softly nodded his head which made Alessia smile wide. "This is the best case ever!"
