Chapter 8
Getting home, Jeff and I make our way straight to dad's study as he has been waiting for us and the moment we reach the door, Olivia's call comes in. I can't resist it this time, I ask Jeff to go in while I stay back to pick up the call.
"Hey," I say,
"Really?" She reacts. "Why didn't you return my call or mom's,"
"I'm still gonna return them," I mumble, rolling my eyes.
"Do you have to drink that much to cause those dramas?" She chides me and I instantly hang up.
Reprove is the last thing I need right now.
I ignore her as she calls again and while I step into the study, I overhear dad criticizing Jeffery.
I wonder if he blames him because of me finding out about the drugs or me being drunk.
"His mother doesn't approve of the car in the first place, and now bloggers are making up some false story about me, You should have looked after him before causing those scenes," I hear dad says.
"I went to meet the stoner, I have no idea," Jeff defends himself.
I clear my throat to interrupt them, moving close to them.
"Mike, what made you react that way last night," Dad confronts in his harsh voice, "You were irresponsible," He adds.
I'm sick and tired of these rants. It's high time I keep quiet about what everyone is saying.
"You have to make a video owning up to it," Dad declares and I raise my eyebrows in shock.
This is quite funny, I owe no one explanation. Those who were videoing me are the ones to be blamed.
"Why would I do that?" I question.
"Because it involves me and it might ruin my political campaigns," He expresses. I see he only cares about himself.
"Bloggers have said a lot about me not saving my marriage, spoiling my kids, challenging people's thoughts if I can lead them," Dad continues to explain.
"Maybe they are right," I have no idea how that comes out of my mouth.
No choice but to admit it since it's already out.
I sit down next to Jeff facing dad.
"What!" Dad exclaims, glaring at me.
"Yes, dad," I answer. "You do drugs, it's illegal,"
He instantly sneers at Jeff who feels so ashamed and before he will bury him alive for that, I quickly add.
"Oh! It's meant to be a secret. Unluckily, I found out myself this morning,"
He clears his throat as he takes his eyes off Jeff while I continue.
"You don't deserve to be the next governor of Lagos State..." I am saying.
"Keep quiet!" He raises his voice at me as he gets up from his seat, slamming a fist on his table while I stopped.
"Do the video or you lose that car," He declares.
That sounds like a threat. Well, I only care about my new whip as I have more life to enjoy with it.
Now that I have said my mind, I have to stay out of it as Jeff has advised me to let go.
"I will do it," I say and I get up, having the intention to leave the study.
"You have to do it now so that we can send it to some media," Dad orders.
I roll my eyes in disbelief and go back to my seat while he asks Jeff to set up a tripod on the table in front of me.
Jeff does exactly and places his phone on the tripod stand. I clear my throat, before clicking the record button to start recording me.
"Hey, guys," I start. I am not even prepared. I catch a glimpse of dad pouring himself a wine while I continue.
"I would like to apologize for my actions last night at my dad's bar hotel. It turned out...that I was drunk and I am fully responsible for this."
I clear my throat again and proceed.
"This has nothing to do with my dad, you guys should ignore all the bloggers saying false things about him. Trust me, Chief Anderson is great, and...he is the next...and the right candidate to lead the people of Lagos state, Thanks,"
Then I click the record button to stop the recording which has been automatically saved on Jeff's phone.
"Great!" Dad says to me and sips his wine.
I remain in silence as I get up, heading out of his study.
He just bribed me with that car to keep shut about him. I should let go as Jeff says. The so-called Lagosians will sort themselves out after he wins the election.
I met Tracy in the hallway on my way to my room. With her figure showing full on her short skinny black gown, I hold her waist before she can say anything to me. She instantly pulls back as she releases my hands off her.
"What are you doing?" She reacts, frowning at me.
"Your sugar daddy is not here," I shrug with a smirking face.
"What about your house staff who roam about?" She asks. "Besides we are done and I do not want any rumor, please."
"Okay," I agree, raising my hands in surrender.
"We have turned out to be exes," I add, teasingly while we chuckle a little.
"Hey, guys," A familiar voice stops us. It's Scoff as we turn around in his direction.
"Guy, where were you last night when that shit happened," I interrogate as he walks up to meet us.
"I went to the restroom with my party date after seeing you chasing a girl out of the bar." He clarifies and I mutter shit, staring at the floor.
"You chased a girl out?" Tracy says to me. "Wait, a fucking lady made you react that way?" She rephrases her question while I look up into her eyes which meet her gaze.
"She knocked me back, I didn't know why I can't control my action," I express.
"What!" Tracy exclaims in anger. "She came to your party and turned a guy like you down, is she crazy,"
"Probably she is a lesbian," Scott reasons, knowing I'm every lady's choice but not that typical strange girl.
"No, she can't be," I disagree with him. I could remember her telling me she has a boyfriend.
"You don't even know her from Adam," Scott shrugs.
"For her to attend your party, she must be a student of Imperial," Tracy retorts. "You should deal with her," She adds and starts leaving our presence, heading to dad's study.
"Right," Scott agrees and we also start heading to my room which is in the opposite direction to the study.
"Will you go with me to get my car at the hotel," I ask Scott.
Noticing him dressing up in his navy blue suit, I add.
"Do not tell me we are having lectures this morning,"
"Of course, that's the reason I came here," He says and glances at his wristwatch. "The lecture will start in the next few minutes."
There is no way we can meet up. I have to go get my car first.
"We can't afford to miss this first lecture of professor Williams," Scott continues saying as I keep mute.
"Come on! We have already missed it because there is no way we can catch up," I refute, rolling my eyes.
"Really?" He reacts with his smirking face, staring at me. "All my dress in vain now," He adds and I burst out laughing as we slide into my room.
That is one thing I hate about my course of study, we do have a dress code.
"You are even going with me to the hotel in that suit," I tease.
"No way," He refutes. "I either change or go nowhere," He adds and starts taking off his suit jacket while I can't stop grinning at him.
******
After Scott and I went to get my car at the hotel, I race down to the school to receive our other lectures of the day.
We can't afford to miss other lectures so as not to influence Scott who is the serious one.
I can't believe this semester has officially started and welcomed us to another thirteen weeks of work overload even though the second semester is always not as stressful and tough as the first semester.
And the moment I get out of the car after parking, I lit upon the same lady who says no to me last night. With lots of people passing by, she is the one I come across.
Dressed up in denim joggers and a short white top with white sneakers, her long gold jumbo box braids hair keeps flipping around with the way she swifts as if she is late to wherever she is going to, probably class.
"You know her?" Scott must have noticed my stares to ask that.
"That was the lady," I mumble as I glance at him.
"Wawu!" He reacts. "I wish Tracy is here with us," He adds and bursts out laughing, making fun of me
I glare at him. "It's not funny," I say, rolling my eyes.
"Okay fine," He tries to stop laughing. "Maybe, for a girl to reject a guy like you. What do you wanna do to her," He adds.
His question makes me chuckle a little, and before I can answer him, my phone rings, indicating mom's incoming call.
I have no choice but to pick up as I know she is upset with me for not returning her call since morning.
"What is wrong with you Michael?" She shouts at me in her high-pitched voice and I lean on my car. "I thought we have talked about you drinking,"
"It wasn't intentional, I swear it," I justify.
"Is that the reason you keep ignoring my calls,"
"I was busy since morning, I'm even on my way to class now," I say which she always loves to hear from me.
"Good, call me when you are done with class,"
"Okay mum," I manage to reply, trying hard not to laugh.
"You heard me. We have a lot to talk about," She states clearly.
"Sure!" I agree and she hangs up while I let out a deep sigh, looking back in the direction of that strange girl but she has disappeared.
