Blood was all over me , it's thick warmth tempting me to keep my eyes shut , the ringing in my ears arguing against the notion since I couldnt hear either.
I snapped my eyes open and saw the matron on the floor dead the gun having fallen from her hands.

'Wait thats not right , if she's dead she wouldn't have the gun.'  I suppose my mind jumped for any sort of puzzle that would prevent me from looking at the reality of the situation.

There was a dead woman in front of me , one of the woman who raised me her mouth and eyes wide open as other girls screamed .

Their screams were muted against the ringing that was finally fading .

I looked around me aware I was still holding my ears and sat up , the feeling of fear and most other emotions having left me as I looked around.

There was the puzzle piece I had been looking for.

Two figures , all black.

They stood tall the daylight from the window giving me a good view of their sturdy and sleek body armor.

They held much more advanced versions of the guns I sometimes saw the guards with outside the windows.  At least I imagined they must be more advanced since they were sleeker in design , but also thick with buttons that seemed to glow on the side of the barrel.

So one of these men had shot the matron.

At least I think they are men.

The panic of the other girls was starting to snap me out of my standstill with emotions , but apparently not enough since I managed to find myself standing up curious. I slipped for a moment in the blood on the floor and looked down at my dress .

The crimson against the white was startling.

Like when snow whites mothers pricked her finger with a needle and saw blood on snow.   

"Who are you?" I didn't remember the thought of the words before I spoke them , and I felt as if someone else was in control of my thoughts and reactions. I was just along for the ride.

" Remain still , your lives will not be taken so long as you don't fight or attempt to flee. As humans susceptible to the V2 infection you are now under the control of the immortal council of the city of Nocturne and the Eastern American Territory for your own safety as well as the health of humanity and vampire alike. Everything you do or say will be taken into consideration on relocation. Compliance is recommended."

The voice from the armored man with the gun boomed loud against the pain of the girls and they all had gone silent terrified. The cries of one of the younger girls was soon muffled against the chest of one of the other girls as she hugged her and rocked her back and forth.

I couldn't see the eyes of the men who had their guns facing us.

Did they say vampires?

I realized I had walked right to them in a daze until I was only feet away from them.

"Well this one seems to like you Nero , you think they will let us keep a pet?" The other figures voice wasn't as loud and despite the strange mechanical sound of it , I could sense a hint of laughter.

The world seemed tilted suddenly , I couldn't breath and  I unable to keep my balance as my vision spun I found myself falling over .

I lost myself and plunged into darkness.
