*Sonic's POV*
"Want to go out again?" Spike said as I helped him walk out of the bar. He had drank a bit too much, and I had to yet again call his wife to pick him up.

"Not tonight, man. You made me get punched again, so you get to pay the next time we go out." I said as I walked to the car his wife was waiting in. I helped him in the backseat and said hi to her. She apologized for him and drove off. "That man is dead." I said as I clapped my hands and went back to get my phone, keys, and wallet.

Once I was officially out, I noticed Shadow had been waiting outside. I walked to him and tapped his shoulder. "You've been here long?"

"No." Shadow shook his head and started walking with me. "You bought a house?"

"I did. I liked this town, it's small, everyone knows each other and it's peaceful. My house is just around the corner, too." I pointed to the petite two story rustic house that was not too far from us.

"I thought you'd someday be back with your family." Shadow said as he now walked ahead of me.

"I will someday. But not yet. Sonia is still not taking the throne, and Manic is doing good with G.U.N. for what I hear. Did you quit?" I suddenly remembered Shadows job. He nodded, but he wasn't looking at me. "Really? How come?"

"It wasn't the same after everyone left." He confessed yet again. I walked up to him and touched his forehead, making him tense up slightly and take a step back. "What are you doing?"

"You used to not tell me anything. Can you blame me for thinking you have a fever?" I chuckled and unlocked the door to my house and let him walk in first. I walked in after him and closed the door, locking it in the process, then put my stuff down on the kitchen counter. "Maybe I served you too much alcohol."

"3 on the rocks won't do it." Shadow defended himself, but I saw him slightly trip over his foot. I laughed and walked to him.

"The guest room is upstairs. Let me help you." I wrapped an arm around him and took him to the room he was going to be staying at. "You're welcome to stay as long as you want. Just let me know how long that would be." I said as I watched him sit on the bed. "There's blankets and pillows in that closet if you need more than these. Restroom is that way, and yeah. Make yourself at home. If you get hungry, just clean up after yourself."

"Thank you." Shadow nodded, I smiled at him and walked out, going into my own room and taking a shower.

Once I was in bed, I texted my brother. He would come visit me at least once a week, we would go out together drinking and to some parties. He was the one I talked to the most, so I couldn't wait to tell him what had happened.

Sonic: Guess who I bumped into today?

Manic: I swear I paid for everything I have, I don't own anyone anything.

Sonic: What? No.
Sonic: I bumped into Shadow

Manic: Shadow? Like your ex rival, Shadow?
Manic: The ultimate lifeform, Shadow?

Sonic: The one.

Manic: How? What happened?

Sonic: Boss forced him in. No doubt, he just wanted Shadow, and I seen together here to get more people to visit.
Sonic: We did get more sales than usual

Manic: Will it be a problem?

Sonic: I let Shadow stay the night.

Manic: I guess it won't.
Manic: He isn't trying to hurt you?

Sonic: No. Shadow and I were becoming friends before we defeated Eggman.
Sonic: We get along
Sonic: At least for now, we do.

Manic: How long is he staying for?

Sonic: I'm not sure. I kind of got him drunk, so he went straight to sleep.

Manic: Were you disappointed he didn't climb into your bed?

Sonic: Manic. Please don't make jokes like that

Manic: Lmao, okay. Fine.
Manic: Just keep an eye out.
Manic: Don't let your guard down. Remember how he used to treat you.

Sonic: Great. Memories

Manic: Goodnight!

Sonic: Goodnight!

I put my phone down and sighed. Looking at the door was stressing me out, so I walked up to it and locked it, putting a chair under the doorknob so no one would get in either. I walked back to bed and instantly fell asleep. It had been a long day at work, and I was exhausted. 

In the morning, I went to go check on Shadow, but he wasn't in the guest room, so I walked to the kitchen to grab a quick to go breakfast before I went to the gym. I realized Shadow wasn't in the house when I saw a note on my table with Shadows' phone number and saying he'd be back later that day.

I copied the number onto my phone and sent him a message that the backdoor would be unlocked. I had a routine. When I was in town, I would wake up early to go work out. Spent two hours at the gym, and I go eat breakfast at my favorite Café which one of my new friends owns and then go out for a run. It was my way to keep myself active and keep using my speed. It was pretty much all I would use it for nowadays.

By the time I made it back home, Shadow was sitting at the table with takeout in the center. He offered me some so I sat down with him.

"So how long are you staying in town?" I decided to ask.

"Not sure. Not long, I hope."

"Already ready to not see me for another decade?" I laughed.

"Actually." Shadow cleared his throat but kept looking down at the food. "I actually missed you, Hedgehog."
