Chapter 21
*Janice Pov*
"You will be fine." I mumbled knocking on the door.
"I don't think so." He mumbled back and before I can say anything, the door opened.
"Janice! What a surprise?" Bhai said, smiling and I can understand his surprise because this is definitely not a weekend, and it is the evening after my college timing.
"Abby wanted to meet me." I said and gestured behind me.
He glanced at Adithya and immediately his eyes went wide. I know I think I really made a mistake by pressuring him to be here.
"What is he doing here and that too in uniform? Dad doesn't like it remember?" he asked.
"Today he picked me up from college. He told me that he would drop me and leave, but it is not nice right? Dad needs to start accepting him." I replied, and we both walked inside holding hands with Bhai little nervous but excited to know what happens.
"Dad!" I mumbled when we saw that he is sitting on the couch.
"Janice! You are..." he trailed off seeing Adithya.
Dad just ignored him while he greeted Dad with respect making me frown. I glanced at him, and he nodded understandingly with a smile.
"I will be back soon." I mumbled and left the room squeezing his hand for a second.
"Abby! Whatever you want to say be quick." I said entering her room.
"Someone is in a rush." She said smiling at me.
"Adithya is here and Dad is behaving like Adithya is some Mr.India, and he can't see him." I explained.
"Ouch! That's pretty bad." She said, and I nodded worriedly.
"Look at you worrying about your husband and all." She teased, and I glared at her.
"Now tell me what the matter is." I said and sat before her.
"Ok! I just want you to have this." She said and placed a bag in front of me.
"What's in this?" I asked her frowning.
"Open it!" She replied.
I opened it to see a gorgeous red gown on which I fell in love with two years back, but it was not in stock.
"Abby! Thank you so much." I said smiling.
"Just a small token for your care Janice." She said.
"That's not fair Abby. I took care of my niece not some stranger." I said frowning.
"Ok! Then take it as a marriage gift then. Wear it some time for your husband." She said, and I chuckled.
"Let's go downstairs now. Don't let him suffer." She added and I immediately rushed outside as I forgot about him.
When we both walked inside the living room, we saw that he is sitting calmly and only Bhai is speaking to him.
"Let's just go." I said, frowning, not liking their behavior.
"You didn't even talk to us." Dad said, frowning and Mom entered the room holding a tray with water glasses.
"I thought you were practicing to be quiet today." I mumbled and continued to walk towards him.
"Janice!" Adithya said, shaking his head, making me frown more, but he just made me sit beside him.
"So Adithya, why did you choose this profession?" Dad asked making me groan.
He squeezed my hand without them seeing and calmly replied "Actually, I wanted to be in the army, but my parents are already sad with me not taking over the business. So I resolved to choose this instead and stay with them. I want to do my share of service to society."
"That's really great." Bhai said, and I smiled nodding.
However, my parents again ignored him for another five minutes, and I got up from the chair. I hugged Bhai and Abby and nodded at my parents.
"We are getting late." That's all I said and walked outside the house dragging Adithya.
"Janice!" He mumbled.
"Don't say anything and just drive." I said, and he nodded doing as I asked.
When we walked inside his house, his parents were as usual in the lawn like every evening. I nodded at them, and they nodded back.
"What happened?" he asked entering the room.
"What happened?! My Dad just behaved like that, and you are asking me?" I replied and faced away towards the window.
"Then I should get this angry every day." He said making me turn back.
"What?" I asked him frowning.
"My parents also do the same thing, and you have to bear this everyday unlike me. So I don't think what your Dad did is any wrong thing." He replied, shrugging and sat on the bed.
"I don't mind about theirs." I said, sitting beside him.
"And I too don't mind." He said, and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"I wish they just leave these religious differences and be good." I sighed.
"Give them some time. Change is never easy." He said making me smile.
I looked up to see him already gazing at me. I don't know why, but I am feeling new whenever I stare at him like something good feeling inside.
It was not there when we met at the café or even when we both got married. But for the past few weeks with the closeness and the talks we have every day, I feel like I know everything about him.
We both smiled when we realized that we are staring like this for the past few minutes and immediately jumped away when he heard a knock saying dinner is ready.
"I will just go freshen up." He said, and I nodded at him.
When he walked inside the washroom, I placed my hands on my cheeks to control the smile. God! I am crazy.
Just like every day we had a silent dinner and walked inside the room feeling tired. I lay on the bed and waited for him while he placed the gun safely in the drawer and locked it like everyday.
He lay down, and I snuggled closer to him within seconds. I sighed, feeling so comfortable while I thought I would never be while hugging a person and sleeping after my teddy bear.
"So..." we both started at a time and chuckled.
"You say it." He said, and I shook my head asking him to say it.
"Ladies first!" He said stubbornly.
"Ok! When is seventh step?" I asked him directly and from his expressions, I can see that he didn't expect it.
"Now tell me your question." I said.
"What is in seventh step?" He asked after composing his shock.
"What do you think?" I asked him back teasingly.
"Ok then!" he replied and leaned into me making my eyes go wide.
He pecked my cheek and moved back making me frown with confusion, but I didn't open my mouth to ask anything.
"Seventh step is your turn Janice." He said, and I stared at him in shock.
"What? You mean I should... no, no. You should be the one to take that step." I said shaking my head.
"What is this professor? I know you are not a mathematics lecturer, but still, how can you do this counting mistake." He said sighing.
"But... no I will not do it." I said in a stubborn tone.
"Then we will be struck at six. Rules are rules, Janice. I am very strict with following rules." He said and laughed when I glared at him.
"That's not fair." I said, hiding my face on his chest.
"I don't know! I am totally correct so it is your turn." He said, and I hit his shoulder lightly.
"I will not do it." I said, looking at him.
"I will also not do it." He said smiling.
"We will see." I said, closing my eyes.
"Don't forget seven, Janice." He whispered, and we both drifted off into sleep liking the comfortableness.
