Chapter I
Planet: Earth
The clouds hung only about a kilometre from the ground, as they grew thicker and thicker until no sunlight shun through. Rain pattered against the roof top in unison of the grandfather clock in the living room.
Cassandra stared outside, watching the rain fill the potholes in the parking lot. The house was only two stories tall, yet fit for only about three or four people. Lightning struck and the thunder shook the walls. A couple shingles fell from the roof and shattered on the lawn.
Cassandra always loved the rainy weather, especially on weekends. She only gets to see her father once a week. On sunny days they usually go shopping at the mall or go bird watching. However, rain means staying indoors, where Cassandra and her father can watch movies or play video games.
She adjusted her itchy grey blanket as her gaze focused on the parking lot, waiting for her father's car to pull up.
A soft, warm hand rested on Cassie's shoulder, but it did not interrupt her focus.
"It's pretty gloomy out there. The weather man said there's a chance for hail. Dad is probably not going to come today," Cassandra's mother bit her lip.
Hail is rather common around Cassie's town, and usually they're never bigger than marbles.
Cassie moved her mother's hand from her shoulder and flicked her brunette hair. Her small hands were slightly tan compared to her mother's, and her eyes were yellowish-brown; like pools of honey.
"Father's a tough person. I'm sure he'll come."
Mother rolled her eyes. Ever since Cassie's mother fell out of love with her husband, mother held a grudge every time she saw him. Somehow, she allows him to come over to see his daughter.
"Why don't you go play with Jasper?" Mother smiled as she mentioned the robotic cat she got Cassie for Christmas five years ago.
Cassandra's eyes flicked to a white metallic cat that bumped into a wall, backed up, and walked back into the wall. There was no sign of that habit stopping.
"No thanks-"
"If you're father won't come, I can invite Brad." Mother's eyes sparkled with excitement as she mentioned Brad's name.
The girl huffed and continued to stare out of the window. Brad was a nice guy. Curly red hair, pale skin, green eyes, and had a crooked smile. He always told goofy jokes during dinner and gave Cassie a chocolate bar at least once a week. Although he was rather kind guy, Cassie could care less about him. Ever since he won her mother's heart she stopped caring. Brad was not like her real father, who would tell nerd jokes while playing video games with her, or showed off magic tricks he learned while he was bored at work.
"No thanks, mother." She pulled out her phone and checked her messages.
<Hey, are you okay?> Cassie texted her boyfriend. She stared at the screen in hopes that he would respond. She quickly lost hope and slid it back into her pocket. She promised her boyfriend that she'd introduce him to her father- that's probably never going to happen.
Hours passed as Cassie continued to sit next to the window. Rain was still pattering against the roof while thunder growled softly. The sky seemed even darker than it was an hour ago, reminding everyone that dusk comes early during the winter.
Cassie's phone vibrated. Her boyfriend finally texted back.
<Yes, I'm okay, love. I had to get the dogs inside and clean them off because they decided it would be blast if they rolled around in the mud. Has your father arrived yet? I'm on my way and I'm looking forward to seeing him.>
<I'm not sure. My mother says he's not coming, but my father really doesn't mind driving through a storm. Drive safe, hun.>
...
Death tapped it's fingers against the table as it thought. About five minutes of the bone fingers tapping angered two of Death's colleagues who sit across the room.
War mumbled, "can you stop that?"
Death's bright green stars within it's sockets peered up at War before vanishing back into the empty void within Death's skull.
That emptiness haunted War. He missed those days when Death's sockets were constantly glowing, as if there were a universe living inside.
Not anymore. Not since Plague passed away.
Famine leaned against his spouse, Famine's horns pricked War in the side, causing War to yelp.
Famine finally broke the silence, "Vita?"
Death nodded, HE TOOK HALF OF ALL HUMANS ON THE DISC AS WELL AS THIS "ROUND WORLD".
War glanced at a statue of a crow in the corner of the library. A clock ticked in the distance somewhere, "That's the same 💀hole who psychologically abused him. Vita..."
Death winced when War said "him." Death slowly nodded, I GUESS ONE WAS NOT ENOUGH.
"So Vita is now making... a fake Good Place?" Famine grinned with pride when he mentioned his recent show he was watching.
FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT.
"Sounds like a waste of time," War grunted, "We were supposed to cause the apocalypse two years from now."
Death looked at a plague doctor mask that rested next to it.
Famine shook his head, "we can't without Plague, love." Famine's dragon talons slid into War's and gave it a gantle squeeze, "not to forget, Death is raising two kids. One is too little to be left at home alone."
"Archer's foster brother can keep an eye on him," War growled.
ARCHER'S FOSTER BROTHER IS GONE! Death roared as it lost it's patience, WHEN I DROPPED MORTE'S HOURGLASS, I SENT HIM TO THE "FAKE GOOD PLACE".
Famine stared at Death, it's eyes wide.
War mumbled under his breath, "because you love your biological son more than your adopted son."
Famine buried his face into his hands. Famine knew that Death was going to almost War, but he knew that a fight was exactly what War wanted.
