Mysterious Miss S out ->
"Pick up your imparter, Esarae," Kaylessa grumbled. She and Viessa had just started hailing their friends to ask them to join Neverswan. They had just created the group last night after a showdown with the Black Swan. She suddenly stopped the hail and gasped.
"Viessa!" she screamed toward her best friend who was trying to hail Keryn, mainly because Kaylessa refused to talk to him. "Don't hail him yet!" Viessa stopped the call and ran over to where Kaylessa was. They had woken up after a long night and met up at Ambercrest, immediately starting to hail their friends. Kaylessa was not a morning person.
"What?" Viessa asked. "What Kaylessa?"
"Why don't we invite our friends another way," Kaylessa asked with a grin. She bounced up and down, her cup of Lushberry juice and Mallowmelt that morning giving her extra energy to burn off.
"What way?" Viessa asked. She cocked a head at Kaylessa's large smile.
"Secret notes, like the Black Swan," Kaylessa laughed. "It'll be fun." In her head, she mentally scrolled through all the ways she could invite her friends.
"Oh, come on." Viessa laughed though. "Are we going to be that secretive?"
"It's suspicious. And, y'know, will make them want to come more," Kaylessa snickered.
"Fine, but I am writing the secret notes. Who knows what you might write in them!" Viessa smiled. Kaylessa grinned. Plenty of weird things that's what.
"Fine," Kaylessa huffed, just a tad bit too dramatic.
"Fine, I'll let you write a few of them," Viessa said. "Maybe I'll let you write Keryn's." Kaylessa rolled her eyes. She'll regret that.
"He might be weirded out by what I write," Kaylessa said. Maybe too weirded out to want to join, Kaylessa thought with a smirk.
"Of course he is." Viessa paused, realization hitting her. "Wait, isn't that your plan? To make him too weirded out to even come." Kaylessa glared at Viessa. Her and her detective obsession.
"Who says?" Kaylessa shrugged. "Let's write up the notes!"
"Okay, but you are not writing Keryn's," Viessa said. Kaylessa started towards her house, throwing a smirk at Viessa as she went inside to get paper. She emerged with a stack of cards and a pile of markers.
"Time to get writin'," Kaylessa said, heaving the bags onto the cement floor. She dropped into a criss-cross applesauce position next to it with Viessa plopping down next to her.
Viessa grabbed a card and started to scribble on the surface, tilting the face away from Kaylessa. "I'm writing this for Keryn." Kaylessa saw her smile evilly. She rolled her eyes and took a card from the pile.
"Oh, fine," Kaylessa glared at her. "I'll write this for Kieran then." She picked up a hot pink marker and started writing furiously.
'To the most handsome Kieran, would you like to accept an invitation to the Neverswan? Members include Viessa and Viessa. We would like to formally invite you as you are so amazing. In fact, Viessa supplied that little fact. I am her best friend, Kaylessa telling you that she would be beyond honored if you decided to join us. Meet me at Rosestone at one in the afternoon for a whole afternoon of hanging out with Viessa. —Viessa, your future crush'
Kaylessa smirked at her note and scribbled hearts surrounding the words. She folded the card in half and hid it in her pocket. Viessa was in for a big surprise.
"I'm done with Kieran's card!" Kaylessa exclaimed. She peeked over Viessa's shoulder and saw her card to Keryn.
'Dear Keryn,
I would love it if you could accept our invitation to officially join the Neverswan. Your best friend Kaylessa said that she really wants you to join. I hope you decide to make her happy like always and join the Neverswan. Join Kaylessa at Rosestone at one!
Sincerely,
Viessa, one of the Neverswan founders'
Kaylessa scowled at the mention of her in the card. She refrained from saying anything in case Viessa wanted to see the card to Kieran.
"Okay! I'll write one to Esarae," Kaylessa offered.
"Okay, I'll write one to Ashyrn and Aymon," Viessa said.
"Fine, I'll write one to Raverie too then!" Kaylessa added as she grabbed two more cards and a purple marker.
. . .
After a whole morning of scheming—ahem, writing—cards, they had finally finished and now it was time to secretly deliver them. Kaylessa took the cards she wrote as Viessa grabbed hers. Viessa grabbed Kaylessa's hand as she gently pulled them both into the light leading to Foxfire.
When they landed in front of the large pyramid, Kaylessa and Viessa split up to drop the notes into their friends' lockers. When all the cards were successfully delivered, they met back up at the front door panting from running around campus.
"Hey, Kaylessa!" Viessa greeted her. "I think that's enough work for today. We can wait until everyone meets us at Rosestone."
"Yeah," Kaylessa said between pants. "Let's have lunch first."
"Okay," Viessa grinned, hearing the word 'lunch'. Kaylessa grinned back and they both leaped to the shore. The wind whipped their hair in their faces and the sea spray got their clothes wet. Kaylessa reached towards a rock and pulled open a secret compartment to reveal tiny vials.
One Whirlpool—Open With Caution
She uncapped the bottle and threw the glass beaker into the foaming water. Immediately a large whirlpool sprung up.
"Ready?" Kaylessa asked Viessa.
"Yeah, I'm ready," Viessa exclaimed. Kaylessa grasped Viessa's hand and they both jumped into the whirlpool together, heading towards Atlantis for lunch. Their laughs echoed as they rode on the whirlpool.
"Where do you want to go and eat?" Viessa asked her friend as they landed on the squishy sponge..
"Cheese," Kaylessa replied.
"Okay!" Viessa grinned.
They both headed towards a large bustling restaurant near the apartments of Atlantis. The place was full of people laughing and glasses clinking as they had lunch. They headed towards the ordering counter and waited in line. Kaylessa immediately ordered cheese with nothing else but cheese when it was their turn. Viessa ordered a large bowl of soup and a squishy orange thing.
They quickly finished their food and leaped over to Rosestone. Kaylessa secretly hoped that Kieran would come first. The drama that would unfold would be hysterical. They plopped down in chairs in Viessa's room and sat back to wait for their friends.
Viessa's mom suddenly barged in. She stood in the doorway with her hands propped up on her hips.
"Viessa, what are you doing here with Kaylessa?" Maeralya Elvyre asked. Her mouth tightened as she studied Kaylessa staring at her.
"Mom, can't I hang out with my friends," Viessa sighed. Kaylessa shifted in her seat uncomfortably. Why was her mom asking about her?
"I didn't say you couldn't but why don't you tell me before so that I can get some snacks ready," her mom sighed. "Why don't you trust me, Viessa?" Kaylessa let her eyes dart back in forth between them, the tension in the room growing.
"I do trust you mom," Viessa groaned.
"It doesn't seem like it, Viessa," Maeralya huffed and walked out as Kieran entered the room, breaking the silence that sprung up after Maeralya left.
"Hey, Kieran!" Viessa waved to him.
"Hey, Viessa," Keiran glanced nervously at her. Kaylessa settled into her seat, smirking as she looked at Kieran and Viessa awkwardly greeting each other.
"Kaylessa, what did you do?" Viessa asked her, glaring.
"Nothing, I simply delivered the note to Kieran's locker, where he seems to have gotten the card for this informative meeting," Kaylessa said.
"Kaylessa!" Viessa sighed.
"Welcome to the meeting, Kieran. Enjoy the letter? Why don't you sit next to my best friend?" Kaylessa said, motioning towards the empty seat next to Viessa.
Kieran glanced nervously at Viessa again. He hesitantly sat down next to Viessa and Kaylessa grinned at them.
"Did you write the note?" he asked. Kaylessa had to stifle a laugh from blowing the entire thing.
"Kaylessa, what did you write on that note?" Viessa asked her. Kaylessa widened her eyes innocently.
"I just invited him to come over!" Kaylessa argued. She had to bite down hard to stop smiling. She probably looked insane.
"Oh, sure you did," Kieran said. She grinned.
"What did she write?" Viessa asked Kieran. Kaylessa clamped her mouth together. This was too much! Kaylessa thought, trying not to laugh.
"Um . . . nothing," Kieran muttered nervously. Kaylessa couldn't stop the laugh that came tumbling out of her mouth. She doubled over and kept laughing her head off, almost falling onto the floor. She was a master at matchmaking, she thought as she laughed even harder at the expressions on Viessa and Kieran's faces.
Queen of Matchmaking indeed, Kaylessa said, catching herself before she fell face flat on the ground. She calmed herself and stared Kieran in the eye, as if to say, You wanna say something?
Kieran looked away immediately at the fire in her gaze. They all watched as Esarae, Keryn, Raverie, Ashryn, and Aymon walk in a staggered fashion. When they were all seated, thankfully with no more drama to delay them, they began the meeting.
