Chapter 58: Ice On My Rink

Prior to your brother's arrival, you bought a sofa bed and a table. It was high time you did, plus he'd need somewhere to eat that wasn't at the coffee table. You got groceries, making sure to pick up some of his favorite foods and stocked up the fridge as well.

You were nervous about having him around and witnessing your poor eating habits, but you were still trying and you hoped he wouldn't worry about you. In the past you probably wouldn't have even thought of living with someone else due to the stress of having to hide it all.

Jeonghun arrived mid-week and he already looked so much better, his whole demeanor was a lot more spirited and you were so happy you could help him. He signed up to start his classes and started looking for a job according to the skills he developed working for your father for the time being right away.

Your parents weren't pleased, which came as no surprise. Their son was going to go live in Seoul leaving a perfectly stable life, to study some dumb thing related to video games as well as work. Surely he wouldn't be able to handle it, but at least he'd learn a lesson out of this hasty decision.

As for your mom on the topic of you having left that night without saying goodbye, she was mad, but you hadn't returned any of her calls. You felt bad for lashing out at Jimin because of what she said and in the end your boyfriend proved her words were pure bullshit.

You thought your visit to Gwangju would destroy all your progress when it came to your eating disorder, but you ended up feeling more confident in the end. You stood up to your mom, Jimin confessed he was in love with you and you actually managed to eat a bit more than usual.

"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" you asked your dongsaeng once more as you stood by the door getting ready to go out and he rolled his eyes.

"I told you I'm not going to be third wheeling. I'll be fine, stop worrying."

"Seriously, I'm sure Jimin wouldn't mind it if you wanted to come" you insisted thinking of how he had no friends here and no plans for the weekend.

"I don't want to see you suck face. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be enough of a cockblock living here" he replied without thinking twice and you scrunched your nose at his words.

"I was just trying to be nice" you complained as you slid in your boots.

"So was I, I'm sure your boyfriend would thank me. Have fun" he said goodbye to you and turned back to his paused game on the TV as you made your way out.

Jimin was secretly relieved when he saw you walk up to his car without your brother tagging along. He was a nice guy and everything, but he really wanted to spend time with you and he didn't really have much time to see you personally with his schedule during the working week.

"Hey aegi, ready to go skating?" he greeted you when you got in the passenger's seat and pecked you softly.

"Yes, I'll finally prove it to you that I can skate...on ice" you said looking determined and he chuckled amused at you lifting your hands in little fists more than ready for this moment.

"Where are we going in the end?" you asked curiously, he hadn't made up his mind about which location would be the safest not to be sighted last time you talked. In the end he concluded all of them would be crowded, so he just made sure he was covered from head to toe and hopefully no one would notice.

"The Grand Hyatt rink.*"

"Oh, fancy. Isn't that supposed to be the romantic spot for couples? With its panoramic view at the top of a mountain, trees with fairy lights all around, smooth music and complimentary hot chocolate for couples?" Jimin laughed amused at your assumptions.

"Maybe I should let you believe that's why I picked it" you looked at him suspiciously after his words and he briefly glanced at you.

"Did you book a room at the hotel?" you guessed and his lips were pressed together in a line as he looked ahead while driving, trying to stifle his laugh.

"I won this bet, Mr. Park. You can't just turn it into what you wanted."

"Also it's one of the most expensive options, so there won't be as many people as there could be anywhere else. Plus there's winter packages."

"Ah right, sorry. The discounts, I didn't think of that, not like you are a millionaire or anything. You all are so cheap sometimes, it's like you forget" you commented mostly to tease him, he was still going to be paying a whole lot for this night.

"Yah! I would have chosen the one at Banyan Tree², but we are more likely to come across someone that might know me at that hotel. You know, it's not just fans that can spot us"* Jimin commented seriously.

"It was just a joke, it's more than fine" you muttered softly and felt guilty for making him feel bad, "I'd be happy to go anywhere with you, even if we went to a public rink and ate tteokbokki*³."

At the next red light your boyfriend turned to you with knitted eyebrows, looking concerned and you pouted at the expression on his face.

"I do like treating you to nice things though, aegi. There's only so much money can buy, you know" he said smiling sadly and you leaned in to kiss him to hopefully wipe the frown off his face.

"I appreciate everything you do for me, I really do, Jiminie. I didn't mean to hurt you" you uttered softly as you pulled back, holding onto his cheeks and looking in his eyes.

"I know you'd buy Lotte for me and not just take me there, but I don't want you doing all that" you joked and he laughed, his cheeks squishing against your hands as his smile spread across his face.

"Sometimes I forget how cute you can be" you cooed at the sight and he pulled back giggling embarrassed and covering his flushed face with the back of his hand.

A car honked behind you and you both realized the light was green once more. Thankfully that was the end of that awkward exchange and Jimin seemed to feel more at ease. You'd never really stopped to think about how hearing that joke fans often made might hurt him.

Jimin had thought about everything, about how this would be more enjoyable in the evening with the lit up trees and the illuminated skyline. How it was quieter and prettier than other rinks and how he could hopefully treat you to some dinner and stay in a nice room to have some privacy.

He also knew you were not expecting anything luxurious and you didn't take advantage of him in any way. It was clear early on when you got mad Hobi paid for the tickets to Nami Island and then when he offered to get you anything at Lotte after you were upset because he implied you were cheap.

Once you made it there and after you checked in, you dropped your belongings in the hotel room and got ready to go to the ice rink. Jimin changed into more comfortable clothes as he had picked you up right after he was done filming something for work.

"What am I supposed to wear? I didn't bring anything, I was not expecting to stay here overnight. I don't even have make-up" you panicked as you had nothing but your small purse with you while he was pulling a whole outfit out of his bag.

"Don't worry, I don't think we are going to need clothes, baby" he commented with a cheeky smirk, looking at you intensely as he took a few steps closer to you and your eyes widened.

"Mr. Park, please, I'm serious!" you nervously pushed him back feeling flustered and he started laughing at your reaction.

"So am I. When am I not? I'm not a dirty boy*⁴" he pouted with puppy eyes holding up his clothes for you to see as if this was about his own change of clothes.

"Never, you are never serious. And yes, you are, you need to chill" you were scolding him now and it was so amusing. He was in fact, not serious, so he finally slid open the doors of the closet and showed you there were a couple of outfits hung for you.

"I wouldn't want you to catch a cold, here" he said thoughtfully, holding his hand out for you to take a look. "And I have make-up right here" he added pulling out a small bag from in between the things he had packed.

"You didn't have to get me anything" you commented shyly feeling bad about what you said in the car once again. You did appreciate it though, because if he picked it, it was a given he'd like it. Not having to worry about what to wear around him was definitely a nice feeling.

Jimin's new outfit was nice and comfortable, just a pair of blue jeans, black sneakers and a warm quilted navy blue jacket. Together with his mask and beanie, he was hardly recognizable in the bulky clothes.

You wanted to be comfortable to do tricks, so you were wearing warm tights, a black and white pleated skirt and a baggy blue sweater with puffy sleeves. Really looking at Jimin now, you weren't sure if this was too much for a relaxed evening.

"Am I overdressed, Jimin-ah?" you asked observing him carefully. He looked somewhat dorky, but absolutely adorable. Turning to you, he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"No, you look just fine" your boyfriend commented taking another look at you and went back to going through his bag figuring you didn't need much more from him.

You simply stood there looking unsure and when he didn't see you move out of the corner of his eye, he left everything aside. Jimin held onto your forearms and smiled sweetly.

"And if you are the hottest girl on the rink, then what?" his smile morphed into a smirk and you looked down blushing.

Making your way down to the reception, you stopped for a minute to book a table for later at the hotel's restaurant and walked outside into the cool evening air. You huddled up to Jimin's side and he wrapped you with an arm and brought you close. Soon enough you'd warm up moving around.

As soon as you had your skates on, you darted out of sight. Jimin looked up from the laces of his boots surprised and saw you speeding away without even waiting for him. Shaking his head amused and smiling to himself, he made sure they were well tied and made his way out onto the ice.

"Wow, you are good" he joked only mildly surprised and you looked over your shoulder scowling at him.

"You just watch!" you bragged as you spun in place just like he did sometimes, perfect posture and technique.

You skated towards him repeating the spin a couple more times on your way smiling widely as he looked at you attentively. Of course you would have chosen a skirt to show off, it looked specially cute as it flared out.

"Impressive, right?" you asked looking a little agitated, but you didn't mind. Jimin's eyes were curved up and you just knew he had a big smile underneath his mask.

"Perfect, in fact" he said with a dramatic nod and clapping softly.

"Now you do it!" you encouraged him and he gracefully spun around mirroring you every time you did it.

This time you were actually having fun together, you weren't forcing Jimin to stay behind to help you or hold you. You chased each other, skating around the other couples on the rink like they weren't even there.

You couldn't remember the last outing that was all about laughs and fun, when your worries weren't present in your mind about what you would eat or what anyone else would say. The thought of how immensely happy that made you only made you smile brighter.

With a little jump, your feet landed heavily on the ice and you felt your legs shake. It was your fatigued muscles trying to get in the way and you stubbornly refused to stop enjoying this moment.

Once more you tried to jump and your ankles nearly gave in as the blades touched the ice. The frustration you felt when everything seemed to get in the way of your happiness, you were done with it.

It all happened so fast in front of Jimin's eyes, he saw you pick up the pace and hold your pose beautifully as you jumped in the air once more. However, when you landed, your legs bent, failing to hold you up and pushing you backwards.

You went to stop yourself, dragging the blades on the ice, but you lacked the strength to press down hard enough as you felt lightheaded just trying to keep your body upright. The harsh move only caused you to fall on your back and a blow to the side of your head knocked you out.

Jimin rushed to your side that very instant, his heart beating fast in his chest as people started gathering around you and blocking his vision. His blades ground to a stop behind the little crowd and they moved out of the way to let him through, recognizing him as the man you were with.

As he knelt next to you, he saw the cut on the side of your head and touched it with his fingers gently. The blood gushing out of it was beginning to soak your hair. His mind flashed back to that night when he found you laying unconscious on the floor, very close to the edge of the tub and he couldn't stop thinking about the what ifs.

He looked up at the bloodied railing behind you and then at the people staring at him who didn't know what to do to help. One hand held yours tightly as he checked your wrist for your pulse and the other ripped out the mask off his face to be heard clearly.

"Someone call 119, please!*⁵" he shouted at whoever would listen and yanked his beanie off his head to press it to yours and try to stop the bleeding. As the fabric changed colors, he looked at it unblinking, his shaking hand holding the cloth unnecessarily tight.

"It's Jimin of BTS!" he heard people softly whispering somewhere behind him and his eyes brimmed with tears. Right now he didn't want to care, couldn't people see the severity of the situation? He wasn't going to bother with them when his one fear had come true right in front of his eyes and he couldn't do anything to stop it.
