Chapter 50: The Center of Attention

"Aegi" Jimin whispered gently caressing your arm as he tried to wake you up. You groaned, you weren't ready to start this day.

"What?" you mumbled frustrated, not with him, but with everything.

"I want to take a shower before breakfast, will you show me the bathroom?"

"It's down the hallway, the very last door. You can't miss it" you spat out. He bit on his lip with a little smirk.

"But I surely need towels, you don't want me to walk out naked, right?" your boyfriend continued to press on and you sighed loudly. You couldn't trust him not to actually do that.

Getting out of bed in a huff, he happily jumped out too and you walked out of the room without losing time. You stopped at the end of the hallway and opened a door to your left that revealed several shelves of linen.

Carefully you selected a couple towels you knew were for guests and handed them to Jimin, then pushed the door of the bathroom open and extended your hand to it so he'd walk in.

"Do I use just any shampoo and conditioner? I didn't bring mine" lies, he wanted to leave a good impression so he was well prepared in every sense. Pushing you was way too much fun though.

You walked in first and when you pulled open the curtain to reach for the right bottles, you heard the door close and looked over at Jimin suspiciously. His lopsided smile and sultry eyes made you frown.

"This is a trap, isn't it?" you commented with a bored tone and he snickered.

"You are bent over the side of the tub without your robe, I don't think I set this up" he answered cheekily with a wide smile, his tone amused.

"Jimin-ah" you played with him using a softer tone and walked up to where he was standing. He raised his eyebrows feeling a little taken aback, it was not in his plans for anything to actually happen with this being the first time seeing your parents.

Bringing your hands together behind your back and fixing your posture made him look down at your chest briefly, as you expected, and then back in your eyes. You stood on the tip of your toes and leaned onto his ear slowly, anticipating your next few words.

"You are a hoe" he froze looking surprised and you pulled back with a little smile, batting your eyelashes in a bratty manner. He looked down blushing, his lips curled up in embarrassment at the fact that he fell for it.

"Now if you'll excuse me" you placed the shampoo and conditioner on the sink and walked around him to open the door. "A very wholesome and endearing one nevertheless" you added with an innocent grin as you turned to him before closing the door behind you.

Jimin smiled to himself, lips pressed together, and got in the shower you'd already turned on for him so the water would warm up. You were so much fun, he loved the provocation, but he enjoyed sweetening you up a lot more.

Once you were both ready, you went downstairs for breakfast. Everyone else seemed to be up already and you knew they'd wait for you to come down and join them.

"Jeonghunie, happy birthday!" you greeted your dongsaeng with a hug from behind as he was sitting with his back to the door. He turned his head back to look at you with the sweetest smile.

Jimin felt a little self-conscious seeing him and your dad fresh out of bed when he was fully dressed, but he didn't feel comfortable enough to be around them like that. Your brother was indeed one of the best looking guys he'd seen even in this state though.

As for your father, he could see what you meant about you being more like him, but it was not a bad thing as you'd made him picture it. He was a very handsome man, your mother probably wouldn't have married just anyone with how he knew she was from what you told him.

Even if he wasn't the tallest, he was attractive, wasn't he? So could your father and so could you. Jimin didn't understand why your mother made such a big deal out of every little thing in private. The contrast between mother and son and father and daughter was not that uncommon anyway.

After you introduced both men to your boyfriend and they warmly greeted him, you two took a seat side by side and he admired the variety of dishes your mom had prepared for you. You saw the amazement in his eyes and smiled sadly, at least he was going to enjoy this.

You took your plate and scooped a few different things in small quantities as your mom poured Jimin and you some coffee. You didn't feel like starting off the day on the wrong foot, so you chose the food you knew your mom had prepared for you and her.

Your boyfriend didn't seem to notice his plate was bigger and the portions offered more generous as your mom filled his plate with whatever he wanted to try. As usual your dad and brother ate freely and you were supposed to eat like ladies should.

As a kid you learned all these things and even if you knew better now, they were engraved in you. When you are young, your parents have the last word and anything they say is to be the absolute truth. At some point you looked up to your mom and admired the way she carried herself.

You were grateful for her wisdom and were willing to learn her ways to hopefully grow up to be like her. Years passed though and as you got older and things didn't work out for you like they did for her, you got discouraged and things took a turn for the worse.

Suddenly it all felt like a burden despite your efforts to look like her or like your pretty classmates who you now compared yourself to way too often. Not being mature enough to know your own body, you went to extremes you should have stayed away from. It was anything but pretty.

You picked at your food despite feeling your stomach growl. You wanted to eat, but at the same time you didn't want to. You shouldn't want to, the negative thoughts were hard to ignore with the constant reminders around you. With your mom's attentive gaze on you.

Jimin rubbed your back and looked over at you with a wide smile as he indulged in the special breakfast and happily talked with your dad and brother about some topic you hadn't paid attention to. Your mom just sat there smiling brightly like all was well and offering refills whenever the plates and cups looked nearly empty.

"Do you want more coffee?" your mom asked and you shook your head no knowing it was not going to help the heartburn. She gestured pointing at her lips with her fingers and you knew she wanted you to turn your frown upside down. To be a delight for your boyfriend and the men of the house.

You simply looked down at your plate avoiding eye contact and shoved a good amount of food in your mouth. This way of going against her wishes wasn't truly positive, she got pissed off and you felt bad about yourself, you lost either way. In your head it made sense briefly though.

"Has anyone told you you look like an idol?" your mom asked Jimin and that caught your attention, pulling you out of your head. "There's this band that's very popular, my friends talk about their daughters being into them all the time...is it BTS?" she thought out loud.

With your mom being all about gossip and social interaction, you were surprised she hadn't noticed sooner. This was about to get good, you hoped. Park Jimin of BTS was your boyfriend and he liked you the way you were, even if you found it hard to believe it yourself. She couldn't deny it.

Jimin chuckled nervously and looked at you not being sure of how to proceed appropriately. You just nodded and looked at your mom to answer with a sense of pride.

"Well, you know how Hyowon samchon works as a producer for Big Hit Music, mom?" she nodded carefully and, when it clicked, you didn't even have to introduce him. Did she know the members of BTS too? You shouldn't even be shocked, but you were.

"Park...is it Park Jimin?" your mom asked as she tried to recall his surname and looked up at him for confirmation. You had to fight the smile that was tugging at the corner of your lips.

"Park, yes. It is me, eomeonim" he replied with a little nervous giggle he couldn't help despite feeling like it was inappropriate.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Jimin-ssi. It was dark last night and I couldn't see you well" your mom justified herself and apologized profusely as if he would truly care or feel offended.

"Why didn't you tell me, dear?" your mom turned to you feeling betrayed. You used to share everything with her, but you were a grown woman that knew better now.

"I didn't think it was necessary. I knew he was going to feel comfortable and safe here, in the privacy of our own home" you made sure to pick your words carefully so she would understand Jimin's visit was not a topic for her to talk about with her friends.

"I do really appreciate you welcoming me into your home this weekend" Jimin added nodding his head to show his gratefulness to your mom and dad.

"Of course you can trust us, Jimin-ssi" your mother replied and you looked at her wondering why she suddenly was so proper.

"You can all call me Jimin, it's fine" he felt awkward with the formality of it all considering he wasn't here as a celebrity. He just wanted to be their daughter's boyfriend. Swallowing nervously, he thought about how it was your brother's birthday, he didn't want to be the center.

"Alright, Jimin-ah. Now tell me, don't you think Jeonghun here has potential to become an idol?" to his right your brother groaned and Jimin pressed his lips together feeling very inadequate.

"Eomma, please" you looked at her annoyed that she was both putting Jimin on the spot and insisting on something she knew your brother wasn't interested in.

"I was just curious. Please, don't make our guest uncomfortable" she countered blaming your brother and you as if you were rude little children and she was not the one who started this.

Jimin glanced at Jeonghun apologetically with an imperceptible nod and he shook his head slightly with a half-hearted smile. Your brother thought that was nice of him, but it really wasn't your boyfriend's fault that your mother was this way. He really appreciated the gesture though.

You couldn't get up and leave like you would have since you were going to spend the whole day celebrating Jeonghun's birthday. This was off to a bad start and you weren't looking forward to the rest of it. The plan was to remain by Jimin's side the whole time not to interact one on one with your mom.
