Chapter 4: Waxing Gibbous Phase
There were only a few days left before the full-moon and Jimin still had no idea how to figure out whose niece you were. It had been two weeks since he'd talked to you.
You'd never mentioned what your uncle did for a living and he had underestimated how hard it would be to find out where you worked. He couldn't go around randomly asking about you either.
It had been silly of him to think he could just find out somehow and surprise you outside of your workplace. It had just been a joke, but wouldn't that have been nice if it worked out? He thought it would be clever and you might finally accept to hang out with him.
He was walking down the hallways of the company when he heard the word niece and it stopped him in his tracks. The man's voice sounded familiar, but he couldn't quiet identify it. Careful not to make any loud clicking sounds with the heels of his shoes, he took a few steps closer to the door behind which this man was.
Another man answered and he smiled to himself widely, it was Hobi talking to him. He could ask him who it was later. Jimin went on his way to one of the many practice rooms satisfied that maybe not all hope was lost yet. He raised his fists and did a little happy dance as he approached the stereo to turn on the music to go over the dance solo he was preparing.
That night he sat on his bed leaning against the headboard, waiting for Hobi to get out of the bathroom of their shared bedroom at the dorms. He walked in after showering and brushing his teeth and sat down on the edge of his own bed to set an alarm for the next day.
"Hobi hyung" Jimin said with a curious tone in his voice the older one could easily identify.
"What is it, Jimin-ah?" he asked turning back to look at him, one of his legs now folded over on the bed and the other hanging from it still.
"How was your day?" his dongsaeng asked with a smile which wasn't really about that one question. He knew him too well by now, but he patiently waited for him to say what he really wanted to say. Hobi smiled sweetly at him.
"It was good, I have to get up really early tomorrow though" his hyung said glancing at the time briefly before fixing eyes with him once more. "What about yours?" hopefully he'd get the hint he didn't have much time for small talk, he always had time for his bandmates though.
"It was alright, the solo is coming along nicely. I want to get your opinion on it if you could come watch me one of these days" Jimin said and Hobi nodded eagerly.
"Of course, any time" so was it that then that he wanted to ask? He'd never say no.
"I walked past one of the recording studios today" his dongsaeng started coyly. This had to be the real question coming, he smirked to himself. "I heard you were talking to someone about their niece" Jimin said and became serious, looking at the older one intently.
"Their niece?" Hobi narrowed his eyes and looked away trying to recall that, if someone mentioned their relative, it was in passing. Jimin furrowed his eyebrows concerned, did he really not remember?
"It was around midday" he added hoping more details could at least help him identify the person he was with at the time.
"Oh, I was working with Pdogg at around that time" his hyung said with knitted eyebrows and lips pressed together.
"What is this about, Jiminie?" he drawled and chuckled amused.
Jimin was now looking away thinking about the producer, he swallowed hesitantly.
"I've come across his niece a few times and she mentioned her uncle. I wanted to know who it was" he shrugged and slipped underneath the sheets pretending it was no big deal.
"Ah, I see" Hobi said smiling at him with an unsettling expression on his face.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Jimin chuckled nervously.
"Is there anything going on between you two?" he asked wriggling his eyebrows.
Jimin rolled his eyes and giggled turning away from him in his bed.
"Not yet" his hyung smiled to himself at his words and turned off the lights after getting ready to sleep.
"Hyung" Jimin suddenly talked once more in the dark and the older one sighed.
"Yes?"
"I know this sounds strange but, could you find out where she works? I know she moved back to Korea because her company transferred her here" his dongsaeng said hopefully and the older one chuckled once more.
"You'll have to fill me in on whatever's going on though" Hobi had one condition simply because he wanted to dig deeper into this whole thing when he wasn't in a hurry to sleep. Jimin laughed softly.
"Fine. But I need the information before the next fullmoon"
"What?" Hobi said laughing airily. "Are you serious?" he managed to ask in between giggles.
"Yes. Shut up, hyung" his dongsaeng said dead serious, and probably a little embarrassed even though he couldn't see his face.
"Good night, Jiminie" he replied shaking his head amused and making himself comfortable on his pillow at last.
A few days later Hoseok got off the elevator on the floor where he was meeting Jimin to see what he had prepared for his dance solo.
Every night since he had asked him to talk to Pdogg, he had checked in with him. Hobi had already made it clear that he wouldn't see him until today, but that wasn't a satisfactory answer to his dongsaeng.
If he failed, it would be too late because it was the day of the full-moon. He couldn't just go up to the producer to specifically ask about you though, he would just weave it in normal conversation.
"Hello Jimin-ah" he said walking in the practice room. Jimin smiled brightly at him, interrupting his dance and pausing the stereo. He trotted up to his hyung excitedly.
"Hyung! I was waiting for you, you just were with Pdogg right?" he double checked and the older one nodded.
"Did you get it?" Jimin asked hopefully with a wide pleading smile plastered to his face. For someone who claimed to be terrible at aegyo, he was naturally adorable, Hobi thought.
"Yes, I have. How could I forget with you asking every night" he replied patiently with an amused lip smile.
"So? Where does she work?" the younger one asked impatiently. He still didn't understand the urgency or why the specific day.
Jimin hadn't clarified where that came from, they'd surely want to talk him out of taking the joke seriously.
"She's a sales representative for Amorepacific"
"The headquarters are in Yongsan-gu, right?" Jimin said pensively as he walked back to his bag and pulled out his cellphone. Hobi made a clueless face.
After looking up the address and directions, he turned back to Hobi clasping his hands together. He needed to get ready to leave soon.
"I have to leave in fifteen minutes so let's get to it" the younger one said and his hyung looked at him curiously raising an eyebrow.
With Hoseok's approval of what he had so far for their next performance, Jimin quickly grabbed all his belongings and made his way to the showers.
He made sure to bring a nice outfit to meet you rather than his more casual clothes. Also throwing some light make up on not to feel inadequate next to you. Now he thought he understood why you had a full face on last time you met.
Jimin dressed in an all black look: ankle boots, jeans, a turtleneck with a black and red sweater over it, for a pop of color, and a trenchcoat. Not too casual, but he wanted to make it clear you were not just hanging out. He was taking you out.
Fitting his black cap on and putting on his sunglasses, he headed out of the building and onto the parking lot to find his car.
Now that he realized it was really happening, he felt a bit nervous. He thought he was being clever, but he didn't know how you'd take it. What if you blew him off? Your attitude was contradictory, so he wasn't sure what to expect.
Along the years he had briefly dated a few different women, but things didn't go too far. When he thought they might be interesting, they'd turned out to be acting a certain way around him to get his attention.
Ultimately they had all turned out to be more of the same superficial type. They simply weren't women you could have a proper conversation with. These days he was hoping to have a proper connection with someone.
He parked a couple blocks away from your company's building and tried to keep his head down to hopefully not be spotted by anyone. With everyone leaving their offices though, the streets were packed.
Once he arrived, he observed the massive building in front of him and hoped with all his might that this would work out. Looking at his watch, he saw he was just in time so you should be leaving soon.
Jimin walked closer to the entrance and leaned against the wall. Through the glass walls, he had a good view of people coming in and out. He kept busy on his phone and looked up whenever he heard the door open.
It had been about twenty minutes when he glanced up and finally saw you. He pushed himself off the wall, taking his cap off, and his footsteps approaching alerted you.
You turned to a man walking up to you brushing his hair back with a cheeky smirk. You were about to hurriedly leave this creepy stranger behind when he lowered his glasses.
"Good evening, noona. You didn't think I was going to stand you up, did you?" a satisfied grin spreading across his face.
