Chapter 33: Of Biases and Wreckers
The next Saturday, as promised, Jimin was finally going to take you out on a proper date. Between showering, your morning skin routine, applying your make-up and trying on several different outfits, you spent all morning getting ready.
You ended up going for high-waisted jeans, a fitted white top tucked in, a long light brown cardigan with maroon accents to match your beanie and brown combat boots. Relaxed but chic.
Despite having hung out with Jimin for months, you were nervous about your looks. Now that you knew he was looking at you in a different way, it suddenly felt even more relevant than before. You weren't sure why he liked you, but you wanted to look your best for him.
He had been the sweetest this last week. After spending the night with you, he had to leave, but you were grateful because you needed some alone time with everything that had happened since the evening before.
Every morning you woke up to a text from him and every evening he asked how your day went and after a little chat, he wished you good night. It was perfect, he checked in on you, but he wasn't suffocating.
He was attentive, but he gave you your space. There was no complaint about it, which was a relief because past boyfriends couldn't seem to grasp the concept of wanting attention, but also space. It always seemed to be an issue, they claimed it was contradictory and you were just a trifler.
Having received a text from Jimin that he was close by, you now waited outside of your apartment building nervously. His sleek car pulled over right in front of you and you walked up to it so he wouldn't have to come out.
"Hey aegi" he said as you got in the car and when you turned to answer he planted a welcome kiss on your lips. You stared at him with wide eyes, shocked by the gesture. He bit on his lips and looked down at his lap feeling awkward at your reaction.
"Hey" you replied timidly. Things were different, but they really were not. Now that feelings were openly involved, there was a new side of each other that was still unknown to both of you.
"So...Lotte" he announced as he pulled away and headed to one of several malls. He figured it would be nice to see how they had decorated for Christmas this year at the mall at Jamsil.
"Where are we going?" you asked after a few minutes of you two driving in silence, just listening to the soft background music he had on since he left the dorms.
"I figured the stores in Jamsil would be the best for the holiday season. I'm sure there will be some photo worthy spots" Jimin smiled widely at his suggestion, but you looked confused and his face dropped.
"The mall? Why not the market?" you said pouting and he couldn't help but let out a breathy laugh despite being puzzled. He was taking you to the luxury department stores thinking that's what you wanted and you meant the discount store all along? This was incredible.
"We are not all millionaires like you, you know" you blurted out feeling self-conscious as he glanced at you for a second looking thoroughly amused. He turned on the next light and then headed the opposite direction to the biggest Lotte Mart he could recall close to Seoul Station.
"No, it's not that, I'm not judging," Jimin said, raising an arm defensively as his eyes remained on the road. "You're just full of surprises, aren't you?" he added laughing and you shoved his arm embarrassed.
"It's hard to believe you when you're laughing at me!"
"I'm not! It's just...unexpected" he replied unsuccessfully trying to stop himself the more flustered you got.
"JIMIN-AH!" you whined raising your voice and he bit on his lip finally being able to control his laugh. He didn't mean to upset you, but you were now facing forward with your arms crossed, looking adorably pissed off.
"I'm sorry. I like it that you are different, a little quirky" he said softly, hoping you wouldn't be offended. He extended his arm with his palm facing up, hoping you'd hold his hand and you looked at it with furrowed eyebrows.
"Aegi" he called you cutely and you huffed, that nickname made you weak. Your hand shot out and grabbed his, he laid them on the rest in between you and smiled to himself victoriously. You looked out the window still pretending to be mad, but he could see your flushed cheeks.
When he parked in the market's garage, you quickly opened the door and got out, heading to the elevators that lead to the store hurriedly, leaving him behind.
"Oh, come on!" he said as he quickly grabbed his wallet and shoved his car's keys in his pocket after locking it to trot after you.
"I'll make it up to you" you stood there with your arms crossed and he tugged at one of them trying to get you to look at him. "Get you anything you want" he dared offer knowing you wouldn't go crazy.
"Anything?" you played with him, doing your best to hold back a smile. Your lip twitched slightly and he didn't miss it.
"Anything in the store" he clarified smiling at the shift in your tone of voice, at least it wasn't an angry one.
"Let me tell you" you started and he looked at you expectantly, "I don't know how to save a single won."
"What?" he breathed out, not knowing how to take it. You sounded serious and he swallowed nervously trying to think of what would be the most expensive thing in the store. Were you seeking revenge?
"I'm not kidding" you pushed him further. It was true, but you weren't going to go all out with his money. You wouldn't feel comfortable with that, just the fact that he wanted to get you something was cute of him. How could you say no with the way he was acting?
"Groceries?" Jimin asked as the doors opened on the ground floor and you walked out.
"No, I can pay for those. That's not what I come here for" you added nonchalantly waving your hand dismissing the aisles as you walked past them. You clearly knew this place.
Hopping on the escalator, you headed to the second floor and then to the third. What could you possibly want? Jimin wondered looking around at what they had on this level. Homeware, home appliances, clothes and...
Stationery? You turned when you found the right aisle and he smiled fondly. This was so endearing. For a moment he really had doubted you and thought you'd pick the most expensive thing you could find.
"Look at this, it's the cutest" you squealed, holding up a BT21 pen, but it wasn't yellow and his smile turned upside down.
"Why not Chimmy? He is the cutest!" he said, picking up his character's pen instead and shaking it in front of you. Jimin turned around and looked for a basket, then threw the item in. You defiantly threw in the RJ pen and he frowned.
As you kept browsing, for every item you picked that wasn't Chimmy, he picked one of them.
"Look at his face, the little tongue poking out!" he argued with you as he shoved a notebook in your face. You were getting different characters, but he got specially mad when they were RJ.
"Oh my, they have stickers!" you took a couple sheets and looked at them, trying to decide which one you liked best, not minding Jimin's complaints as he went through the different sets of Chimmy and grabbed one of each.
"Baby Chimmy is irresistible! Do you have one of these? You need one" he picked a mini cushion and you looked at him entertained. He was so agitated for some reason.
"You don't have to get me all of this, Jimin-ah" you said smiling softly, it was fun teasing him, but he didn't seem to be having as much fun with it as he usually did.
"Why Jin hyung's?" he exclaimed and you blinked.
"It's a cute fluffy alpaca" you replied warily and his eyebrows furrowed. He wasn't asking about his character, you realized. It was about his hyung, your bias.
Jimin's gaze averted yours, he was trying not to make a big deal out of this, but he couldn't help himself. He was nothing like Jin and this made him feel insecure. His hyung was the most handsome of the seven, according to beauty standards at least, and you were all about that life.
"Jimin-ah. Have you ever heard of bias wreckers?" you suddenly thought trying to find something to comfort him.
"Wrecker?" he repeated, looking up at you curiously. They had heard of biases and some terms ARMY used, but they didn't really go in depth.
"Jin is my bias, but trust me, you've been wrecking me big time these last few months" you explained in a low voice feeling a little embarrassed, but he had to know.
"Wreck?" he questioned in a lower tone, but not because he was ashamed. Smirking mischievously, he took off his sunglasses. His hooded eyes burned through yours. What a curious word, he snickered.
"Um, yeah. It's just when you are affected by someone other than your bias" you gave him a calculated answer, feeling nervous at his stare. It admittedly wasn't the best choice of words, now that you thought about it. At least not to tell Jimin. You just started rambling nonsensically as his smile grew wider.
"Oh, okay then," he breathed out, stepping closer to you and making you stop talking, "I'm going to wreck you all right."
