Chapter 14: Love Is Blind
After spending two hours showering, putting your make-up on and choosing an outfit, you were finally ready. While you didn't really want to be in the way of other members of the band, you wanted to be prepared, just in case.
Your outfit ended up being a lantern sleeve dress that would hide your arms, with a belt around your waist to accentuate it and long enough to cover your thighs. Tights underneath and shoes with a small heel to elongate your legs.
You looked at yourself in the mirror behind your door one last time and walked out nervously. It was 8 p.m. already, late enough that everyone should have had dinner. You were grateful that this time there was no food involved. It irked you that so many things revolved around it.
In order to look your best and not bloated, you'd avoided it altogether since your meal yesterday. Brushing your hand down your dress, you looked down at yourself and wondered if it had made a difference at all though. It didn't really look like it.
Since your coworkers had judged your make-up and body, you weren't sure what you were doing anymore. You tried to go with a lighter look, but you didn't feel like it covered all the imperfections on your skin, so you wiped your face over and over trying different things until you gave up and did the usual.
Your arms and thighs were the ones you were most self-conscious about, but you still asked yourself exactly what part of your body these women felt was off. Was it something about your face? Your chest? Your stomach? Hips? Legs?
Natural beauty was always important to your mom, so you had never seriously considered surgery. She emphasized that you had to work with what you had. Clothes and make-up could mask your flaws and make your best features stand out. But she looked perfect, you were dealt a much lousier hand.
Jimin and Hobi hadn't commented on your appearance much, they either felt sorry for you or preferred to keep to themselves rather than saying anything nasty, you figured. You preferred it that way, compliments about it made you uncomfortable and you just pretended not to hear when anyone gave them.
When you were at the building complex, the doorman was waiting for you. He guided you to the building where the guys lived and accompanied you to their floor before leaving you on your own. You nodded at him to thank him as the elevator closed and softly knocked on the door.
Jimin opened it as soon as he heard, knowing it was you, since you'd let him know through text that you were coming up shortly before. The living room was dark and there was no one around, just like you'd expected. Would sneaking around be worse than facing the rest of the guys?
"Good evening, noona!" he whispered with a wide smile and boldly, but swiftly glanced at you from head to toe. A slight smirk pulled the corner of his lips, the only light that was on was the one on the hallway, so it was hardly visible.
The dress you were wearing made your body stand out. He bit his tongue and decided not to say anything for now, not until you were more comfortable. His goal tonight was to be a little more serious and he didn't want to get you all flustered.
Jimin took your hand and made you walk in, your confidence walking on heels was unmatched. It was hard for him to look away, like that first time you walked in the photo studio and everyone turned to look at you.
He had no idea it was the result of your mother insisting about your posture and making you wear heels since you were way too young. There were many things he still didn't know about you and many red flags he didn't know better about.
Walking down the hallway, he led you into his room and closed the door after him once you shyly took a few steps. Leaning back on it and bashfully shoving his hands into his pockets.
"So, this is my room"— he started and you looked at Hobi's neatly made bed —"I hope you don't mind watching the movie here." He bit on his bottom lip nervously, trying to keep his cool on the outside, but feeling his heart beat fast in his chest. You slowly nodded, taking in the room.
"Where is Hobi?" you asked unsure as there were no signs of him being around.
"Hobi hyung?" he asked, a little taken aback, but figured you were being polite. They shared the room after all.
"Oh, don't worry about him. He's busy for the night" Jimin said nonchalantly and that's when you realized you were going to be alone with him in his bedroom. You couldn't judge though, you had asked him to make this as private as possible, not to bump into anyone.
Looking back, you realized Hobi hadn't said a single thing in the group chat about tonight. You had assumed both of them would be here. If you'd known it was just Jimin...you felt light-headed for a second there, but you brushed it off assuming it was just that you hadn't eaten in over 24 hours.
"You look great tonight, noona" Jimin commented suddenly as you stood there playing with a strand of hair that fell on your shoulder. You paid no notice, not wanting him to go on with the flattery. Your hair was curled and looked silky and, as usual, your make-up was on point.
He so badly wanted to run his hands through it, imagining it was as soft as it appeared. He took a couple steps closer to you, his hands still tucked away, and looked in your bewitching eyes, absentmindedly brushing the tip on his tongue along the corner of his dry lips.
As he lifted a hand gently and was about to touch you, you held your breath, your eyes fixed on his. Delicately brushing your hair back, he pulled the strand you were now weakly holding over your shoulder away from your fingers, letting your light curls bounce behind your back.
"Don't be nervous" he said softly with that naturally sensual undertone of his. He remembered your insecure habit from that day in the car, he hadn't forgotten.
Your lips parted ever so slightly as you felt breathless, gasping for the air that didn't seem to want to come in. Briefly looking down at your open lips, Jimin leaned in a few inches and before you could pull your head back, he chuckled and pulled away trying to stick to his resolution.
He walked to the tv as if nothing had just happened and turned it on before grabbing the remote. The movie was already prepared when the screen turned on. Walking over to his bed, he sat down against the cushions propped up on the headboard and looked at you.
"Are you coming, noona?" he asked innocently as he looked over at you and patted the space next to him.
"Yes" you blurted out awkwardly and walked up to his bed. Contrary to most people, you felt clumsy without your heels. Sitting with your back to him, you scooted back and brought your legs on the bed as you turned. Making sure your dress covered as much of them as possible.
You folded them to a side and put your hands down on your lap, taking a deep breath to try and calm yourself down. Jimin once again noticed your uneasiness, you hadn't said much of anything so far and he really just wanted you to relax.
"I like your socks, they are cute" he pointed at them with an amused smile. They were blue and had little purple jellyfish on them.
"Oh, thank you" you breathed out confused at the random comment. "I love jellyfish, they are my favorite. Moon jellies are particularly pretty to look at as they glow in the dark. There's a bunch of them that are bioluminescent, but many are deep in the ocean" Jimin just sat there, his body facing you, with a smile plastered to his face.
"That's cool" he said with an entertained voice and you pressed your lips together. Maybe you shouldn't have answered so enthusiastically, he probably thought that was weird.
"Is that funny?" you challenged him not wanting him to look at you like that anymore. His eyes widened and his smile dropped.
"No, it's actually adorable" you looked all flustered, so he turned away and grabbed the remote from his night-table once more. "Should we start watching?" he offered, pressing the play button as you agreed.
You side-glanced at Jimin after a while, when you heard him breathing more rapidly. His eyes were wide as he focused on the movie.
When you went to turn your attention back to the screen, his hand shot out as he was startled and grabbed yours. You couldn't help, but giggle.
"What?" he pretended to be fine, but his pupils were dilated and he looked agitated.
"Did that scare you?" you asked with a playful smile and he laughed nervously.
"What if I wanted to hold your hand?" he tried to change the subject, but you stifled your laugh.
"Sure" you said with a side smile, giving his hand a little squeeze.
You were starting to feel oddly comfortable being alone with him. He kept insisting to be by your side, he was caring and thoughtful and despite you snapping at him more than once, he didn't stop trying to get close.
As you looked down at your hand in his, you thought about how you were scared. But not of the film as he had been, but of letting him in. You couldn't afford to have your heart broken.
Every guy that you'd given a chance to, you'd eventually pushed away, afraid you'd get too attached. The hurt would have been too much to bear if you let it progress.
So you just didn't, when things got too serious, you always managed to sabotage it without even trying. There was no one sweeter or gentler than Jimin though...
Couldn't you allow yourself nice things too? Why would he like you? But he refused to leave your side, to take no for an answer. He wasn't putting pressure on you.
He was just there for you, regardless of everything. After you stood him up you were sure that was going to be the end of it, but that didn't crush his spirits. Unexpectedly, he came back.
For a moment you'd thought your interaction would remain professional as you worked together. He was friendly and proper as he'd be with anyone else. That was until the collaboration with the company was over and he went back to his ways.
He'd give you a breather, but he wouldn't give you up and so he had you wondering if maybe you should give up resisting him. After all, who could resist Park Jimin?
You sighed at your thoughts and Jimin looked back at you. "Everything alright?" he asked with a soft lip smile and you nodded.
The way you were looking at him made his heart do a somersault. Your eyes had a sort of emotion he wasn't quite sure about. He hadn't seen it before.
As if drawn by it, he leaned closer to you. You didn't flinch, you didn't push him back or say anything to throw him off. So he went for it, he couldn't help it.
You felt dizzy, the contrast of your frozen body and your agitated chest were making you feel some way.
When you nearly tipped over, Jimin missed your lips and caught your forearms confused. Were you about to kiss him back? You realized you weren't just giddy, you weren't feeling good and you needed a minute.
"There was a bathroom down the hallway, right?" you blurted out hurriedly and got up from the bed. Doing your best not to tumble over as you ran for the door, opened it and left him alone abruptly...
...yet again.
