Chapter 12: Putting the Pieces Together

Despite not eating much, you were an excellent cook. In a way, cooking for others and feeding them what you wouldn't normally allow yourself to eat was rather comforting. At least you could feel satisfied making it and having someone enjoy it for you.

You each made a small pizza, Hobi and Jimin were impressed about how well you handled the dough and combined your toppings. It was perfectly circular too, while Hobi's looked almost heart shaped and Jimin's was the closest it could be to a circle, but not quite.

"Hold them up for me, I'll take a picture" Hobi ushered you to a side and made you lift up your open boxes to show off your creations. You both smiled brightly for him and then Jimin offered to switch places so his hyung could have his photograph as well.

You walked out of the restaurant carrying your pizzas, they smelled delicious. Your stomach still felt off from the buttery treat you had earlier though, at least you had a real reason to skip lunch now.

Jimin held onto your hand nonchalantly once more and pulled you down a path lined with trees on either side. Balloon-like lamps hung in between the trees.

As you took pictures, you spotted rails to a side and looked around for the entrance to a station.

"Should we take the rail bike? That looks like fun!" you asked excitedly and let go of the younger's hand and ran towards the ticket booth.

"Noona, you're not paying this one!" he darted after you when he realized your intentions. Both of you were giggling uncontrollably and Hoseok just shook his head amused. How adorable could you be? He was happy for his dongsaeng, you seemed to be a very sweet girl.

When he finally reached the booth last, you'd managed to buy two tickets and Jimin had only got to pay his. "Ha!" you chanted victoriously and stuck out your tongue at him when the youngest glared at you.

You were very agitated, you certainly weren't fit enough to run. And all the walking around was tiring you out, you wouldn't last long on foot.

You got on a four-seater bike, you two sat at the front while Hobi took the back seat. All three of you pedaled across the island to get to the stop of your picnic destination. The scenery was beautiful, with the hues of orange, red and yellow adorning the trees and covering the ground.

Jimin couldn't help but glance at you from time to time, just unconsciously smiling as you looked around with wide eyes, taking in every little detail. Your hair blown by the wind and the warm sunlight making your eyes sparkle.

You turned around suddenly and he immediately fixed his eyes forward. Had you felt observed? He wondered as he felt the heat creep up on his cheeks at being caught. Jimin pressed his lips together stifling his nervous laugh.

"What is so funny?" you asked puzzled.

"N-nothing" he said defensively, pretending to be shocked at your question. However, his tone gave him away.

"My hair must look like a bird's nest with the wind, is that it?" you guessed self-consciously, trying to find an explanation.

He shook his head no giggling nervously and you looked down at your lap furrowing your eyebrows. Jimin bit on his bottom lip, you were thinking the opposite of what he was thinking.

"Maybe I can't take my eyes off you" he whispered, facing forward with a little smirk. Hoping only you could hear him and his hyung couldn't read his lips.

You slapped his arm embarrassed and looked at him in disbelief. These flirty jokes were impossible to take without blushing.

Jimin turned to face you briefly and winked at you. The smug smile still shamelessly plastered to his face.

"You'd better quit it!" you warned him so he'd stop teasing, but your reaction only motivated him to keep pushing you.

"Wanna wipe it off my face?" he looked back at you with hooded eyes and brought his face dangerously close to you. Your lips only inches away as he stared down at them and then brazenly looked deep into your eyes.

"Who allowed you? What do you take me for, Mr. Park?" you pushed him back feeling more flustered than ever, he'd taken you off-guard for a second. Was he being serious now? You took a deep breath and faced the opposite way feeling your heart race.

Both the guys laughed amused at your reaction and you complained, "I can't take you anywhere, you guys!"

Finally arriving at Dodamsambong Garden, you got off and Hobi promptly pulled a blanket out of his backpack to lay it on the ground. Jimin took out a couple of bottles of water and napkins. Thankfully the pizzas were still warm at least.

The location was tucked away within a calm lotus pond, far from the touristy crowd, so hopefully you'd be able to eat peacefully. The guys pulled down their masks and immediately opened their boxes to grab a couple slices.

"Should we share and try all three?" Hobi offered and you all happily agreed.

"Which one do you want first, noona?" Jimin asked, looking at you before taking his slice out.

"I feel a little sick from the hotteok earlier, I don't want any" you muttered as you played with a strand of hair over your shoulder nervously. He looked at you worriedly.

"Why didn't you say so?" Jimin was concerned.

"Do you want us to go back, noona?" Hoseok followed, worrying you were uncomfortable.

"No! That's not what I meant, I just won't eat. It'll go away, I'm sure" they didn't look satisfied with the answer and you looked around once more trying to change the topic.

"Would you look at that majestic duck!" you said exaggeratedly and they both turned to the pond to look at the ducks swimming in it.

Jimin raised an eyebrow suspiciously and looked back at you questioningly. You either really liked animals or...

"Not those, the giant rubber duck in the river!" they turned to look behind them and finally identified it.

"Oh wow" they exclaimed in unison.

"I think it's part of the Rubber Duck Project!" you commented.

"What is that?" Hobi asked curiously.

"It's floating sculptures that a dutch artist showcased all over the world! They are meant to be temporary, I didn't know this one was still here. I need a picture with it! Jimin-ah, take my photo, please?" you said with your best smile and he chuckled as he ate the last of his second slice.

"Lotte group brought it here, it's the least you can do since you haven't taken me there!" you joked and he smiled thoroughly entertained.

Picking up another slice for the walk to the riverside, he got up and followed you as you excitedly headed towards the river.

You posed for him in front of the duck which was floating further in the water. Your head cutely tilted while your hand held the rail. Jimin couldn't help but smile as he took your photograph.

His eyes kept darting from the camera's screen to you, wanting to see you beaming with his own eyes and not through the lens. You were beautiful, yet very charming at the same time.

You switched to a couple more adorable poses and he captured them for you before you walked back to him. He couldn't get rid of the smile on his face, you were so endearing.

"They came out really cute, noona. Have a look!" he said handing you the camera proudly and you silently looked at them. Your eyebrows knitted as you analyzed them carefully.

Jimin's eyes saw them as a whole, how you radiated happiness and looked absolutely lovely smiling genuinely. The way you stared at them though, something was wrong, he pouted.

He wasn't the best photographer, but they were good pictures, weren't they?

Your eyes only saw every little thing that was off with the captures. The thickness of your arms and legs, your puffy face, the messy windblown hair and the cringy poses you improvised.

"Um, thanks, Jimin-ah" you said with a tight smile as you handed him back the camera.

"No problem" he said a little taken aback by your underwhelming reaction. He felt a little deflated that in the blink of an eye your excitement disappeared just like that.

"We should go back" he said softly and automatically took your hand. It was usually cold, but now it was a little shaky as well.

"Are you cold?" Jimin turned to you and instantly went to remove his coat to offer it to you.

"No, it's fine! I'm not" you answered hurriedly so he wouldn't take his jacket off. It was indeed chilly, but you were always cold. It was normal with the little amount of calories your body ran on.

"But...you're shaking, noona!" at his words you internally cursed. Not having eaten all day except for that one bite of hotteok was starting to show with all the activities and exercise.

Jimin insisted he would be fine without his jacket, but you were starting to panic now that he had noticed your trembling and you lashed out at him.

"I said I'm fine! Ever heard of the meaning of no?" you slightly raised your voice and he froze and quietly put his coat back on.

He silently walked after you as you briskly headed back to where Hobi was. You really didn't want to be alone with Jimin anymore and you certainly couldn't go back to sitting in front of the food again.

"Should we get going to our next stop?" you said as you were approaching the oldest guy from behind, he jumped a little in surprise. You couldn't even wait to be by his side with how anxious you were.

"How are you feeling, noona? Are you sure you don't want to go back? It's no problem, right, Jiminie?" he said looking over his shoulder and trying to get his dongsaeng's support.

"No, of course it's not" Jimin muttered, still a little shaken from your snapping off at him. It was like that one time he was concerned when you didn't want to order anything at the restaurant after the shoot.

At least that hadn't been clear enough. Was it a joke? Was it a nicer way to tell him to back off? He was now more concerned than he initially was as he recalled that moment.

This was all too familiar and he didn't like it at all. Jimin was putting the pieces together trying to find a reason to be wrong as he followed the two of you.

You had your arm looped around Hobi's and you were talking animatedly a few steps ahead. It was clear that you were distancing yourself from him, the change was so abrupt.

"Jimin-ah!" Hoseok called him for the third time and he finally snapped out of his thoughts.

"Sorry, hyung" he said apologetically and you got on the charity train that would take you to Hampyeong Park.

During this time of the year, the golden ginkgo and red maple trees were a must according to your uncle. You loved the season, but had also heard that there were butterflies in spring.

All of it couldn't possibly be done in a single day and you were already planning to come back. The island was said to be beautiful in every season.

When you made it to the park, Hoseok noticed something was off. You were paying way more attention to him than Jimin since you were done with lunch.

"Noona, Jimin-ah, stand next to that maple tree" he urged you two with a little push forward and you awkwardly walked towards the spot he pointed at.

That was the first of many photos he took of you two and eventually you relaxed once again. It started serious with stiff poses, but as Hobi became more and more pushy, you both started teasing him.

The last few pictures, and even some sneaky videos, were of you being silly and pulling faces just to ruin the shots you were tired of.

"At least your gallery won't be mostly Taehyungie anymore!" Jimin provoked his hyung knowing how many photos and clips he had of him.

Hoseok laughed amused, who could blame him when you were acting all cute. He was glad he had been able to diffuse the tension from earlier, whatever that had been. He'd ask Jimin about it later.

After a long, fun-filled day, you headed back to Seoul as the sun was setting. You tiredly took a seat in the ferry and laid your head against the window.

"I'm not used to this tourist life" you mumbled amused. Your body was certainly not used to having to spend extra energy it didn't have, was more like it.

The next thing you knew was you were being shaken awake by Jimin. You were already in the car and parked in front of your apartment.

"We are here, noona" he whispered softly, not wanting to startle you.

"Wait, what. How did this happen?" you were so tired you didn't remember groggily walking out of the ferry and towards the car with Jimin holding onto your waist. You were out as soon as you got in and laid your head against the headrest.

"Come on, I'll walk you to the door" he said smiling amused as he got out and waited for you. You sleepily waved goodbye at his hyung and held Jimin's hand as he helped you get on your feet.

You silently walked together and when you were both standing in front of each other, Jimin finally talked.

"Noona, I'm sorry about earlier" he started and you felt a pang of guilt in your chest. He didn't have to apologize for being caring. You'd lost control and panicked.

"No, I'm sorry, Jimin-ah. You were just trying to help. I shouldn't have been like that" you apologized and he smiled softly.

"It's alright, don't worry about it"

"Friends?" you said, opening your arms for him. Jimin hadn't meant it that way when he hugged you last time though and he couldn't help but feel a little sad at the word.

Without a word he simply walked in your arms and hugged you back warmly.
