Kaampilya, Paanchaal

The ring tossed from Dhrishtadyumn's fingers into the huge cauldron with a plop.

"It's a simple game," Dhrishtadyumn nodded with a curved smile, "Whoever shall find the ring first shall win this round. . . and it is believed that whoever wins the game shall rule the household."

Arjun nodded with a tiny smirk lacing his lips, as he placed a hand pressing over his folded knee, adjusting himself. His gaze followed Draupadi's, who was already looking down into the milky waters, as if ready to grab the ring for herself. She pushed a chunk of silky curls behind her ears to focus on the game, as her friends were already eyeing each other and giggling, as if already celebrating Draupadi's win.

Well. . .who was going to tell them?

The crowd around where chuckling, gossiping and anticipating excitedly.

"Start!"

Both of them immediately dipped their hands inside the milky swirl. The cauldron was actually deeper and huge than that it appeared.

Arjun wavered his hand inside the waters, biting down his lip and then into a curve. His beautiful wife was already busy, searching inside with a faint furrow on her brows. Her small hand was swirling inside the waters, almost with a slight hint of desperation and soft pants. As if she didn't want him to give a chance to win.

Oh God. . . who knew that she would turn out so competitive?

He was urging to control his laughter by then, already finding the ring and keeping it inside his fist in the waters.

Damn! She looked so adorable and innocent, searching for the ring with probably all her might. Her soft, red lips narrowed slightly, her cheeks turning a shade of pink upon which she had no control of and her free hand continuously pushing back the strands of hair behind her ear that seemed to trouble her.

Her cheeks were almost flushed by now, as if seemingly putting her entire effort into searching for the ring but still having no trace of it.

"Did none of you find it yet?" Shikhandi intervened as a lot of time had passed, but none of them had their hands out with the ring.

Arjun curled out his lips with a shrug as if he had no clue of it, still pretending to swirl his hands inside the water, while Draupadi shook her head quickly, as if too busy to respond.

Dhrishtadyumn was looking half confused, and Satyajit nudged him, "Did you even drop the ring?"

"Of course!" He whispered, "I dropped it in front of you!"

"So what are they searching for since so long?"

"That's what I am thinking too. . . it shouldn't be taking that much time!"

It was getting difficult for Arjun to hold back, but he bit on his lips harder this time to control.

Draupadi's entire face seemed flushed, the tip of her nose turning slightly red as she exhaled deeply with her brows narrowing further in confusion and frustration. For a moment she gazed up at Arjun, but he immediately looked down again, as if busy searching for the ring innocently.

She breathed out, biting the corner of her lip as her friends tried to help her by whispering in her ears.

"Prince? What is taking you so long?" Some of them chuckled, as Arjun shrugged again, pretending to be exhausted looking for the ring.

"Draupadi. . . do it fast!" Her friends whispered, nudging her and elbowing her, "Are you really not able to find it?"

Her face flushed even more, but accepting defeat easily didn't seem like in her nature.

She swirled her hand for about ten more times, almost urging up from the floor slightly to look for the depths.

Only she knew that she was played upon.

At last she shook her head, panting for breath.

"Wait you both. . . let me check," As soon as Dhrishtadyumn knelt down to look inside the waters, Arjun cleared his throat with a fake cough, and everybody's gaze fell upon him.

He slowly pulled out his fist, an innocent, slow mischievous smile lacing his lips as he showed everyone the ring.

"Oh my God! My goodness Arjun!"

"My my. . .! You played us all!"

"Goodness!"

There was a huge gasp followed by a score of chuckles and laughter that followed, and so did Arjun, chuckling silently with his eyes squinting as he gazed at Draupadi, "Celebrate, your husband just won. . ." He winked at her, forwarding the ring, laughing at the way she was looking at him.

Draupadi looked at him as if he had landed from somewhere, her eyes widening for a while, and then into a full, shocked stare. For a moment, she couldn't truly fathom what her actually happened with her. Her jaws were flushed deep crimson, her lips parted in surprise.

He played. . . he played her?

HE PLAYED HER?!

HOW. . . HOW COULD HE?

HOW COULD HE?!

She gasped softly, blinking and then looked at her friends, who too appeared slightly surprised as none of them had expected it from Arjun.

How. . . how could he?

She had thought. . . she had thought he wouldn't even try! Draupadi bit on her lower lip, her face flushing even more, as she could already feel the heat rising through her cheeks out of embarassment and frustration.

He played her in front of her eyes and she had no hint of it at all!

Arjun was finding hard to stop laughing. The way she was staring at him with her brows furrowed in frustration, it only made her look even more innocently adorable. She peered at him annoyed, her long, almond eyes roaming over his face, breath coming in soft pants with blushing cheeks.

His hands were itching to pull her close that moment, and kiss down her warm, flushed soft cheeks. . .

But of-course, all good things have their own time.

.

.

.

"Alright. . . alright!" Dhrishtadyumn was trying his best to hold back his chuckles, as Draupadi shot him a glare. He cleared his throat with the back of his hand and steadied himself, "Well, well, no hurries! There is still another round left!"

Draupadi clicked her tongue slightly, visibly annoyed.

Her friend Malati, nudged her, "Princess. . . so what now?" The latter looked at her with a pout, "I don't know. . ."

"Looks like we underestimated him," Another one chimed in, placing a hand on Draupadi's shoulder, "But we can't let him win this time as well!"

"He isn't as innocent he looks Princess," Malati huffed slightly, "Play him instead this time."

"How?"

"Find a way to fluster him. . ." Subhalata, her another friend chimed in with a wink.

"Wh-what?" Draupadi gaped at her, her heart skipping a beat at her suggestion, "How?"

Malati chuckled, wrapping an arm around her neck, "Hasn't God has given you beautiful, big eyes, an innocent face and beauty that can rival any woman, hmm? When will that be put to your advantage?" She whispered, pinching a confused Draupadi's chin playfully.

She blushed slightly hearing her.

"All the best," Subhalata patted her shoulder.

After a while, Dhrishtadyumn dropped the ring again the milky waters, letting it sink.

"You both can start!"

Arjun chuckled, quickly putting his hand this time and so did Draupadi.

He licked his lower lip slightly, swirling his hand as his exceptional archer instinct had already knew where the ring would be after being dropped, and he wasted no time in grabbing it from the depths of the cauldron.

But as soon as he could move his hand, he felt a firm grip on his wrist, stopping him and his heart, both.

Uff, this girl would be responsible for his death someday. . .

He inhaled deeply, feeling her soft fingers brush over his knuckles under the water, and then he looked up.

She pouted slightly, her huge lashes blinking slowly over her deep, crimson eyes that seemed to own the world itself. Big, innocent and slightly watery, enough to immobilize men right on spot. She looked more innocent, more adorable, more naive. She exhaled deeply, visibly emphasizing more on the droop of her lashes.

Was. . . was she trying to trick him?

Trick him or not, she was looking more innocently adorable rather than conniving enticer. Her naivety was giving in slowly, as she couldn't bear to look straight into his eyes longer, without having her cheeks getting red.

But whatever she was doing, was enough to sizzle his heart like it was on fire.

Her fire.

'Hold on Arjun, hold on.' He chanted from within, but his lips had curled up into a soft dazed smile as soon as her soft palm squeezed over him in the waters.

So soft. . . softer than the petals of blue lotus.

Her fingers caressed his knuckles faintly, almost in a feather light manner, stroking innocently yet with a deliberate sensuality that sent shivers down his heart and spine.

Oh God. . .

Oh God, someone should stop her!

Her lips slightly curled up, as if  her supposed confidence was getting back.

His heart hammered against his heart with flutters, as he gulped slowly, his eyes transfixed on her. Her fingers glided over his knuckles, her thumb brushing with longer strokes, almost weakening his fist.

He gasped softly, closing his eyes for a longer time and breathing out deeply, but not enough to let others have a guess at what was happening beneath in the milky waters of the cauldron.

Arjun's mind started galloping faster, filling with imaginations of how her soft fingers would feel tracing his jawline instead, brushing over his cheek sensually or gliding over his eyes like an innocent vice meant to entice him.

It was almost he could feel her fingers in his mind, on his jaw, tracing towards his lips. . .

And he would take his time to kiss them all. . .

That was when he suddenly felt his fist loosening under her grip, almost her fingers invading within his own, and that's when he quickly composed himself with a firm blink.

Oh. . .

She tried her best.

And it was his time to reward her back.
