Chapter Four

(No trigger warnings for this one, just wanted to warn you that this might make you cry)

Five's P.O.V.

I could hear a faint ringing sound in my ears as I woke up. I started to feel lightheaded the moment I sat up on one of the couches in the living room. Everyone was looking over at me, silently asking me how I was feeling. Despite the sharp pain in my arm from the blood donation and the hole in my heart caused by the earlier events, I was fine. Numb, but fine. "What happened?" I groaned as I sat up completely and faced the others.

Vanya and Allison were clutching onto each other like their lives depended on it. Diego kept pacing back and forth around the room, and Luther and Klaus looked down at the floor like sad puppies. "Anything?" I asked again. Allison looked up and wiped away the tears that were forming on her face. "After you passed out, Anna's heart started failing, and we were sent out of the room. We haven't heard anything since," she answered.

I wanted to pass out again when she said that. I had just given my blood so Anna could possibly live, but now I was worried that it was all for nothing. I stood up from the couch and started to walk towards the infirmary, hoping that Grace would tell me how Anna was. "Whoa! Where are you going?" Vanya called out, stopping me in my tracks. "I have to go see her. She's the reason I came back," I answered, about to continued walking.

Vanya walked over and gently grabbed my arm, pulling me back towards the others. "I heard you talk in your sleep, Five. You said something about time travel, Anna, and how you must save her. What does that mean?" Allison asked as I reluctantly took a seat back on the couch. "I don't want to talk about it," I muttered. "Five, this is important," Luther said. I was beginning to grow irritated that they were pressuring me into telling them what I was talking about in my sleep.

"I had a vision. I saw you guys were crying over something, and you didn't want me to see what it was. But, being the stubborn asshole I am, I got past you guys, and I saw that Anna had killed herself," I sighed as the vision replayed in my head like a broken record. The others were shocked by this, and they started asking questions. "Did she leave a note?" or "What drove her to do this?" So many questions, but I had only one answer. "I don't know," I answered once I managed to calm them down.

Footsteps approached the living room, making us all look over, and I saw that it was Grace. She had a small amount of blood on her light pink poodle skirt, and she had just finished removing the blood-stained rubber gloves from her hands. "Well, how is she?" I asked, standing up. Grace looked down at the ground and then looked up at us. "Unfortunately, Anna's heart stopped by the time I administered the blood. I tried to resuscitate her, but she passed away at 7:15 pm," she answered.

I collapsed onto my knees when she said that. I thought she was going to make it. Everyone in the room besides Grace started crying, some harder than others. I was heartbroken, but I wasn't going to show it too much. "Would you like to say your goodbyes?" Grace asked. We followed her towards the infirmary, and I saw Anna lying down on the gurney with the medical supplies all packed away,  no longer attached to the monitor. I stumbled over to her, walking over to the same spot where I had given Grace my blood.

"Anna," I whispered, letting out a choked sob as I looked at her pale face. I looked down at her cuts and saw that Grace had stitched them up. I could only look at them for a moment before I felt my stomach churn. "Five, are you alright?" Luther called from outside the infirmary. I looked over at him as I felt a single tear slip down my cheek. "Y-yeah, just give me a moment," I answered. "Anna, I never should have left you. I'm so sorry," I whispered. Without a second thought, I gently ran my fingers through her red hair, and slowly they made their way to her cheek.

Her cheek was already cold as ice, and she was pale as white snow. "Five," Vanya called out. "I got to go, but I will find a way to bring you back. I'll see you soon," I whispered before I gently kissed the top of her head. I felt someone gently grab my hand and try to lead me away from the gurney, but my feet couldn't move. "Five, you have to let her go," Vanya whispered.

She was right, I may not have been able to do anything at that moment, but I would spend countless nights trying to go back and save her if I had to. But first I had to know why.
