Chapter Five
Five's P.O.V.
That night, none of us could sleep. All I could do was look up at the ceiling and keep asking the same question over and over again. "Why?" I could hear the faint sound of crying coming from down the hall, and I knew that it was a combination of Klaus and Vanya's cries. I had no idea they cared about her so much. When we were younger, the others didn't pay much attention to her, and I felt so bad for her. And over the years we spent as much time as we could together.
Even when we went on missions, she would always have my back. Father would get angry by how much time we spent together, and he warned us multiple times that we needed to stop. But, we never did. Just thinking about her made me want to cry and cry until there were no more tears left to shed. But, I held it together as I turned onto my side to look at the photo of Anna and me resting on the bedside table.
She looked so happy, what caused her to be like this? That photo was taken the day before I got stuck in the future, and I remembered every moment of it.

"Oh my god, I can't believe we did this," Anna whispered as we crawled through the window of my room. We had just gotten back from Griddy's and ate all the donuts we wanted until we almost puked. "Shh," I shushed her gently as I carefully closed the window once we were inside the room. She let out a small giggle, and I quickly covered her mouth as she continued. We were both hyped up on sugar, but we had to be careful not to wake the others. While we waited for the sugar to exit our systems, we sat on the bed together and giggled softly as she gently rested her head on my shoulder.
"What's that over there?" Anna pointed out to a small camera that was resting on the wooden desk a few feet away from the door. "It's one of dad's old cameras. Apparently, you take a photo, and it comes out on a small piece of film, and slowly the picture appears," I explained. I walked over to the desk and brought the camera over and showed her how it worked. "Could we take one together?" She asked after I was done explaining. "Of course," I answered. She gently rested her head on my chest and smiled as I pointed the camera at us and pressed the small button.
A flash of light came out of it, and a piece of film rolled out a second later. "You want to take another one?" I asked. "Sure, but it's my turn," I looked at her and let out a small chuckle as she smiled at the camera and snapped the picture. But I wasn't looking ahead. I was only looking at her.

I looked out the window, and I saw the hazy purple glow of the sky. "Well, I can't sleep, so I might as well get to work," I muttered to myself as I got out of bed. I looked through the small closet and pulled out one of the many uniforms that were hanging on wired hooks. I didn't care if the others were still sleeping. I was going to head to Griddy's and get a decent cup of coffee, then get to work on finding any kind of note that could help me.
I took the keys to one of the cars and soon came to a stop in front of the brightly lit donut shop. "Just as I remembered it," I sighed. I walked inside and took a seat next to a woman and her toddler-aged daughter, who looked over at me and started waving. I never liked kids, but I waved back anyway and rang the small bell. A waitress with short blonde hair walked over to the counter and smiled at me and the woman.
"So, what'll it be?" She asked as she pulled out a small notebook. "I'll take a chocolate sprinkled donut, please, and an iced coffee," The woman with the baby answered. The little girl let out a small squeak, and the waitress pressed a hand to her heart and smiled. "Cute kid. Can I get the boy a glass of milk?" she asked, looking over at me. I let out a small scoff and smiled at her. "The boy wants coffee, black,"
She came back a few minutes later with the coffee. And I started to feel a little more energetic as I swallowed the hot substance. "I got you covered," The woman smiled, placing a five-dollar bill on the counter next to me. When I got back to the Academy, I walked over to Anna's closed bedroom door. I took a deep breath as I wrapped a hand around the knob and entered the room. It felt different without her here. The room felt cold, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
Her bed was neatly made, the pink and gray pillows were neatly laid out. And the tops of the dresser, bookshelves, and bedside table were spotless. Anna was a perfectionist when it came to her room. Even the smallest book that was out of place would cause Anna to have a panic attack. I looked around the room for a moment before I carefully looked through the room to find a note. "What are you doing?" A voice asked. I looked up to see Klaus standing in the doorframe, with small bags under his eyes.
"Anna should've left a note. People usually leave a note before they..." I trailed off. Klaus nodded slightly and then left me alone. After about half an hour, I still had no luck and began to give up on looking. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a notebook sitting on the small rocking chair next to her window. This has to be it. When I picked it up for a moment, I stared at the cover. A large sunflower was at the center, along with a few smaller ones on the corners. I took another deep breath as I opened the notebook, where I was greeted with a message on the first page.
Holy... shit...
