THE FOURTH
the runny nose of doom
━━━━━━▒ ۞ ▒━━━━━━

DIANA NORMALLY ENJOYED seeing her breath in the air when she walked the streets of New York. She loved the snow that brought Christmas. But this year things were so very different. There were people in her life that are now gone. There were repressed memories that the sight of snow seemed to bring back. And the sting of her nose paired with the warm liquid dripping down her lip.

She had assumed that her nose was runny but when the crimson shade reflected against her finger, she knew that her nose was bleeding. Diana hasn't faced a nosebleed from cold weather in years, normally her nose was moist enough to prevent this, but she was on her way to the shop to pick up her car, after not having to use it for a while, it needed a tune-up and the weight of her shopping bags was beginning to annoy her.

Diana thought she would make it to the shop just fine. But it seems her brain decided to take a different path for the day. And it all was kickstarted by the glimpse of her blood as it bounced and splattered on the slush of the snow on the sidewalk.

Her vision went dark as she suddenly found herself surrounded by trees, the feeling of her body moving against her will made her muscles stiffen and tense up so tight, it felt like they were in agony.

It was the firm hands of a stranger shaking her back to the present that helped Diana to ground herself back to the pavement of the New York streets.

"Are you okay, Miss?" The man asked, his concerned eyes bored into hers as his grey hair was sprinkled with drops of snow, he has been walking outside for a while. The lines in his face contorted to show off the visible worry.

"I-I'm fine," Diana stuttered our, looking around, squinting to look at the street signs, "I just have to get to... to..."

She had forgotten where the shop was until she looked at the building she stood outside of. She was only a few blocks away from her old home, the shop was two streets down.

"Do you need medical assistance?" The man asked.

"No!" Diana sharply answered as she diverted herself back to the elderly man who took a step back to give her some space, she coughed at the abruptness that probably startled him into stepping back, "I'm sorry, that was rude, uh, no, I just have to get home, thank you."

The man seemed satisfied with her answer, giving her a nod, he continued on his way as if they never talked at all, as if he was just wanting to get through his one good deed of the day and to turn tail and race home to get out of the cold.

Diana shook her head with a sigh, rolling her shoulders back in an attempt to release the tension. She couldn't do anything for her bleeding nose at the moment except for getting to the napkins in her car that still sat in the shop, waiting for her to return.

She would have to talk to Beth about this moment tomorrow when she has her next session. Because what the absolute fuck just happened?

THE STRAIN IN Diana's arms made her muscles taut with tension. She couldn't help but let out a groan as she pushed the barbells up and away from her chest one last time. The words of encouragement from Sam who stood above her, making sure that she didn't crush her chest only helped her as she put the weights on the rack.

Her shaky arms dropped down on her chest as she breathed so heavily, she almost felt her lungs graze her ribs, or that's what it seemed like.

"That was great, Renfrey," Sam clapped as he spoke, taking a couple of steps back to give her space, "after this water break, we'll spar, we gotta teach something different from the back alley style you've been using for the last four years."

"Oh please, Wilson, my back alley fighting has kicked your ass three times in a row now, if anything, I should be teaching you!" Diana shot back, sitting up on the bench and twisting around to look at the man, her bangs fluttered into her vision after gravity pulled them down.

She didn't plan on getting a haircut, but she was due to go on a mission soon and she wanted to do her best and not be recognized. Diana had also been struggling for a while as well from the lack of sleep and after a huge, drunken breakdown, she turned an empty bottle of Jack into a pair of scissors and started hacking away at the blonde locks.

When she woke up sober and hungover, she immediately took herself to Wanda who fixed it right away, scolding her the whole time for her drunken mistake.

"Yeah yeah, whatever, Di," Sam chuckled as he climbed into the ring, holding up a barrier band to make it easier for Diana to enter the ring after him, her breathing calmed down and her muscles were ready for a fight.

Diana looked around for her hand wraps and found that they dangled off the barrier on the other side of the mat. She was on her way to get to them when all of a sudden she found herself on the mat face first with a weight on her back.

"I win round one," Sam's smug voice found her ear and Diana gasped.

"SAMUEL WILSON!" Diana yelled as he got up, reaching a hand up for her to grab.

She accepted the offer, already planning her takedown on her way up. Sam was cackling the whole time and didn't even notice that her left leg was behind his right before it was too late. With a stiff hand on his chest and her grip on his hand tight, Diana was able to catch Sam off guard with one great shove that sent him to the floor.

His eyes went wide as he coughed. He looked over at Diana, speechless as he studied the smug grin on her face.

"You wanna play dirty?" She asked, "I'll show you how to play dirty."

THE SIXTH
the circle of idiots
━━━━━━▒ ۞ ▒━━━━━━

DIANA SEARCHED DOWN every row, her heart racing in her chest as she tried locating someone she knew. Only to find more and more people who stared at her like she had something on her face. She knew they were just trying to figure out where they knew her from, it doesn't mean it didn't make Diana feel weird when they didn't even try to hide it.

Still, as she walked through the maze of aisles at the supermarket, her being close to finding her friends was looking dismal. She had managed to scour through all of the back to school area, hoping to find Steve looking for more journals or pencils and when she didn't find him there she maybe thought she would find Wanda in the DVD elates, looking for a 5 dollar deal on a box set for the Dick Van Dyke show that's she's been trying to find since she arrived at the compound.

Wanda wasn't there. Diana felt a bit of panic in her chest and it made her mad, not at Steve, and certainly not at Wanda, no. She was mad at herself for getting this upset at not seeing her friends. Is she really that co-dependant on her roommates that she can't be away from them within a target for 5 minutes?

Her thoughts were soon interrupted when a beep in the overhead speakers stopped the song as a worker got ready to speak into the overhead phone.

"Diana Renfrey to register six at the front, your kids are here for you," Someone spoke, making Diana furrow her eyebrows, "Diana Renfrey to register six."

Diana looked around, so far, she was the only person she knew to have that name, so she figured, why not go to the front and meet her kids? If it's someone that she recognized, maybe it was all some joke.

Diana sped walk to the front of the target, her eyes grazing over her surroundings swiftly to find the lit up "6" that stuck out like a sore thumb among the empty registers. When she got even closer, the familiar blonde hair sent a rush of relief through Diana as she soon saw Steve and Wanda, both with remorseful looks on their faces.

"Well well well," Diana snorted with a grin on her face, "look at the circle of idiots that we have here, kiddos,"
