Chapter Sixteen
Quigley's P.O.V.
Violet and I approached the frozen waterfall, I had never climbed such a great height, but there was a first time for everything, so I decided to try to enjoy this, even though we were doing this to save Sunny. "We'll use these to pull ourselves up and test for thin ice so we don't fall," Violet said handing me two large pieces from the candelabra. "Not falling is an excellent plan," I chuckled softly.
"Are you ready?" Violet asked. "If we wait until we're ready..." I started to say. "We'll be waiting for the rest of our lives," Violet finished. We started to climb the tall, frozen waterfall, and I started to get nervous as we continued climbing the great height. Violet let out a small gasp, and I looked down at her to make sure she was okay. To my relief, I saw that she was still climbing the waterfall, "We should rest, I see a ledge, it's not much further," I said as I looked up and saw a frozen ledge. When we finally reached the ledge, I grabbed Violet's hand and I pulled her onto the ledge and we sat down next to each other.
"This ledge is solid. We should sit here for a moment to get our strength back," Violet nodded as she looked out at the view. "Good idea, you're an excellent climber," she smiled. "You're an excellent inventor," Violet looked up at the waterfall, we still had a long way to go, but I was glad that we had come this far. "Thanks, but let's not celebrate yet. There's a long way to go," she said. When she said that, I instantly thought about Isadora, I hoped that she and Duncan were safe in that self-sustaining hot air mobile home.
"Celebrate when you're half done, and the finish won't be quite as fun," I whispered. Violet looked over at me, wondering what I had said, and I told her that it was a poem that Isadora wrote. "Once we find Sunny, we'll search for Duncan and Isadora," She said. She gasped slightly, and I saw that she had dropped her glove and it had fallen to the bottom of the frozen waterfall. "Don't worry, we'll get it on the way down," she said.
I let out a small sigh and looked down at the headquarters, wondering how Y/n and Klaus were doing. "What's wrong?" Violet asked. "Nothing," I answered. She gently patted my shoulder, and I looked up at her and met her kind eyes. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," she said. "If I tell you something, you have to promise not to speak of this to anyone,"
She nodded, silently telling me that she wouldn't say anything. "Y/n and I, we've been through everything together, and over time, I've come to realize something. I think I'm in love with her," I admitted. Violet's eyes went wide with surprise, and I was silently hoping that she wasn't judging me. "Is that okay?" I asked. "Yeah, that's fine, I just didn't expect you to say that, I thought that something else happened that you haven't told me,"
I was glad that she didn't say anything negative about it. "I think she likes you too," she smiled. "Are you sure?" I asked. She nodded slightly and for the first time in a long time, I started to feel happy again. "She deserves someone like you, your kind, your smart, and you've got a big heart," Violet and I looked out at the view of the Mortmain Mountains, it was so beautiful, and the tinted blue sky in the distance made it look like something out of a fantasy book.
"Y/n is a lovely girl," Violet said. "Very Lovely Indeed," I said as I thought about Y/n. My hand kept digging around in my pocket, and I felt the small sapphire brooch. The moment we have some time alone, I'm going to give this back to her, and tell her how I feel about her. I just hope it goes well.
