Chapter Six

Y/n's P.O.V.

We walked through the tunnel that lead to whoever is named Montgomery. My legs started to ache not only because we had been walking for who knows how long , but also because had not fully woken up when we were pushed into the tunnel. "Are we there yet?" I asked trying my best to not whine. Then, we came to a stop there was a ladder that lead to another hidden door.

"Yes, I think we're are," Quigley answered. We climbed up the ladder and pushed the door open. We were greeted with large green hedges surrounding us and I began to wonder if we ended up in the wrong place. "Um, this doesn't look like someone's home," I said as I climbed out of the tunnel. "No, I think we must be in some sort of labyrinth. Labyrinth is a complicated network of passages and paths by the way,"

I knew what labyrinth meant, but I wasn't going to tell him that fearing that I would be rude to him. "So, how are we going to get out?" I asked. Quigley didn't answer, but he took my hand and smiled. "All you have to do is trust me, can you do that?" he asked. Of course I trusted Quigley, he was the smartest and the sweetest guy I knew. "Of course," I answered. He smiled and led me through twists and turns until we finally made it out of that Labyrinth.

"How did you get us out of there so fast?" I asked. "I've studied Labyrinths I've learned every trick in the book," he answered. We walked up a long gravel driveway and a horrible smell filled my nose. "Do you smell something terrible?" I asked. "That's the smell of horseradish," Quigley explained. When we reached the end of the long driveway, we reached the entrance of a large house that looked like it was made of glass. Hesitantly, I knocked on the door but there was no answer.

"Maybe they're not home," I suggested looking back at Quigley. "It's almost dawn, who would be gone this early?" he asked. I walked around the property and looked through one of the clear windows. I saw a number of cages all covered with white cloth I could've easily mistaken them for ghosts. "This had to be some sort of reptile room," I said looking at Quigley. "Do you think this place is abandoned?" he asked.

The answer was very clear, who would put white cloth over cages? The person who must've living in the house must've either moved out or died. "It has to be abandoned," I answered. Quigley opened the door and we both stepped inside. The air felt thick and dusty, and It felt like I was walking into a possible death trap. "I don't like this, I'm worried something's gonna jump out a scare us," Quigley said tightly gripping onto my hand.

Then, we heard the sound of screeching, Quigley and I jumped and hid underneath a desk. "Where is that coming from?" I whispered trembling with fear. Quigley looked up for a split second and then ducked underneath the desk again. "I don't know, we'll just wait for whatever it is to stop," he answered. A few seconds later, it stopped but I was afraid to come out from underneath the desk fearing that whatever made that noise would continue.

Then, I saw something stuck underneath the desk. Without a second thought I pulled it out of it's hiding space. It was a big black book with the title The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations. "What's that?" Quigley asked. "I found it underneath the desk, do you think this is probably important?" "I think it is, but we should probably make sure the rest of the house is safe," he answered.

We got out from underneath the table and searched the house. Quigley checked the main floor while I checked the bedrooms upstairs. I was scared being alone upstairs in an abandoned house, I had read stories before about children looking through abandoned houses and they were never heard from again. But luckily, there was nobody upstairs so I rushed back downstairs like a ghost was at my heels.

"Did you find anything?" I asked.  "Only these peaches," He answered through a mouthful of the sweet fruit. I reached into the small can and pulled out a peach slice. When I bit into it, I was greeted with the sweet taste of the delectable fruit. "There's more in that room back there, this should keep us going for a few days,"

We walked back into the library and sat down near the desk placed the large book on the desk. I opened one of the drawers and saw  two small pieces of  something. I pulled them out of the drawers and placed them next to the book. "What is that?" he asked. "Maybe this book will give us the answers that we need," I answered.
