Chapter Seven
Y/n's P.O.V.
After Quigley and I spent hour reading through The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations, I started to doze off and eventually, I fell asleep next to him. I thought that maybe I could finally get some sleep after a long, depressing day. But, even in sleep, things got worse. When I fell asleep, I could sworn I heard the sound of a heartbeat monitor, then I looked around and noticed I was in the ICU of Pincus Hospital.
I didn't know if I was a patient, or I was visiting someone in the hospital. When I looked down, I wanted to break down in tears right then and there. The person who lying in the hospital bed was my mother. To this day, I can still remember how she looked. She was bald, she was pale, and she had oxygen mask in her nostrils. But I wasn't the only one in that room. I looked over and saw my father and sister holding each other and crying.
Then, without warning, the monitor flatlined and very quickly I felt everything inside of me shut down and I found myself struggling to breathe. Then, the sound of someone screaming filled my head. "Mom, Mom! No, no, no, no!" my thirteen year old self screamed. I could remember everything that happened, two nurses had to pull me off of my mother's cold, lifeless body.
"Mom, No!" I screamed waking up from the horrific flashback. I felt someone wrap their arms around me, I knew it was Quigley. "Oh Quigley!" I sobbed into his shoulder. "Shh, it's okay I'm right here," he whispered into my shoulder. If Quigley wasn't there, I don't know what I would have done. "Did you have a bad dream?" he asked. When we pulled apart, I shook my head. "No, it was more of a flashback, I was in the ICU, and I saw my mother and she died in front of me and my family, I didn't even say goodbye," I sniffled wiping my tears away.
"I'm so sorry Y/n, really I am, no one should ever have to go through that," he whispered as I felt him run his fingers through my hair. "I don't think I'll be able to fall asleep," I sighed. "Would it be okay if I snuggled with you?" he asked. It may have been awkward that Quigley was offering to snuggle with me to help me sleep, but he was the only person who was with me so it was him or no one.
"Okay," I answered. He wrapped his arms around me and we laid down on the cold floor of the reptile room. "I'm right here if you need me, Y/n," he whispered. After a while, I finally felt safe. We may not have been in a permanent safe place, but I felt safe in Quigley's embrace.
