Take Me Out

"I can't believe you're doing this!" Lena gushed, her hands on my warm red cheeks. Her brown eyes were burning into mine, her lips curled up into a grin.

I honestly could barely comprehend it myself. Adrian, the guy I'd had a crush on forever, had just asked me out. My best friend, the one person I had never believed there would ever be a possibility of dating, had reached for my assumptions and tossed them aside.

Lena looked about ready to go on, but shook her head and closed her mouth when she saw her phone start ringing. I watched her cross the room in a few steps, sweep her phone up, them step out of my room and into the hallway.

"Olivia." I looked up at Abel as he crossed one of his legs over the other and nodded at me from where he was in the middle of the doorway.

"Hey." I said, reaching for the black flats on the other side of my bed. When I had slipped them on, I lifted my head back up, only to come face to face with Abel.

"What are you doing?" I asked, moving back and sitting down on the edge of my bed. Flashbacks from the other night had started to bounce around in my head, sending my heart into a frenzy.

Why the hell was my heart racing? I don't even like Abel, I never have and I sure as hell never will.

"He likes your hair better down." Abel finally whispered, pulling the bobby pins from my hair so it fell down my back again. He stared at me for a second, giving me the opportunity to see if he was drunk or not.

"How would you know that?" I said, pushing his hand away from me, "Do you two sit around and talk about me while you watch me sleep?" I tried to joke, but it came out a lot more bitter then expected.

"No." He replied, "I've seen the way he looks at you, Liv. The way he stops whatever he's doing whenever you pull your hair out of a ponytail, at the way it flows down your back in beautiful waves." I coughed, taking another step away from Abel.

"Abe, you sound kind of. . . into me." I pointed out, not knowing whether to be confused or disgusted.

The last thing I needed was Mr. Manwhore finally settling down with me and suddenly claiming he had changed and wanted to be my boyfriend. This wasn't some romance novel, and I sure as hell wasn't going to sit here and believe it was.

"Into you?" He was trying not to bust up, "Liv, I'd never be into you. No offense or anything, but you really aren't my type, whatsoever." The part of me that had sort of believed that I had fallen into some weird alternate universe with a sweet and non-player Abel Hendricks actually liked me, let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh, yeah? And I'm guessing any girl that's willing to sleep with you is your type." He laughed, nodding.

"I've told you this hundreds of times, Olivia. I-"

"Liv, it's Adrian." Lena appeared in the doorway, giving Abel a disgusted once over before handing me my phone. I took it, a heavy feeling already starting to drop in my stomach.

"Adrian?" I said.

"Hey, Liv. I really sorry but my parents are forcing me to go with them to some guy's funeral. I left the tickets at your place, so you can take Lena if you want." I sighed, shaking my head.

"It's fine, Adrian. A funeral is a lot more important then some stupid concert. I'll probably just give the tickets to Oliver and Abel."

"I'm really sorry, Liv. I promise I'll make it up to you when I get back." He responded, genuine guilt lacing through his voice.

"It's okay, Adrian. I'll see you when you get home." I hung up, tossing my phone on to the bed a few feet behind me.

"Oh, sweetie." Lena reached for my arm, as if she thought I was going to start crying.

"I'm fine, Lena. You want the tickets?" My eyes drifted to Abel, who's jaw had clenched and eyes had hardened sometime during my conversation with Adrian.

"I do, actually. And you're coming with me." He demanded, grabbing the two tickets from the nighstand beside him.

"No, Abel. You an Oliver can just-"

"It's on the list." He cut me off, "To go to a concert and preform on stage with either the band or the opening act. Therefore you have to come with me." I grabbed the list from my collage board behind me and shoved the tack back into the wall.

He was right, they were both on the list.

"Fine." I sighed, "I guess we better get going then, right?"

Once we got into the car, I immediately connected my phone to Abel's radio and watched in silence as it synced and finally went through.

"No crappy boy band songs, please." Abel said, starting the car and glancing at the screen as I scrolled through my phone before just putting it on shuffle.

"You're kidding me, right? Is your whole playlist just break-up ballads?" He asked once the phone registered and Someone Like You by Adele started spilling through all the speakers in his car.

"No." I lied. "I've got a One Direction song that Lena put on it too." I said, setting my phone down in the empty cup holder. Abel shook his head in confusion as we pulled away from my house.

"Why do you listen break-up ballads when you've never even been in an actual relationship?" His question had me staring out the window the entire song and the next before I could come up with a response.

"I doubt your playlists are anything special." I eventually snapped.

"Actually, I have a variety of music in my playlist." He replied, sneaking a grin in my direction.

"Like?" I wondered, making a gesture with my hands.

"Like Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon, Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Disturbed, X Ambassadors, and even a couple Taylor Swift songs." He said, obviously proud of himself.

"It's hard to believe you actually listen to half of those bands." I gave him a playful smile, "Who new Mr. Manwhore actually listened to Taylor Swift?"

"Hey, watch it." He was smirking now, "Nobody needs to know about that, kay?" He made an I'm-watching-you gesture with his hands before turning the radio up so I Will Always Love you was blaring through his speakers, and to my surprise, he actually looked like he enjoyed the music. And when I snuck another look at him, I swear I saw his mouth moving along to the words.

It was pretty dark by the time we pulled up to the arena and had finally fought through the cars in the parking lot and found a spot. Abel dug through his pockets until he found the tickets and helped me out of the car with a small smile.

"What are those?" I asked when I saw the lanyards in his hands. A malicious smile stretched across his face.

"VIP passes, dear. VIP passes." He led me to the front of a long line and said something to the guard before the man moved out of the way and let us in. I looked over my shoulder at the people watching after us, looking either pissed off or envious, I saw a few that looked both.

"James!" Abel shouted, cupping his hands over his mouth. A hot blonde guy turned away from whoever he was talking to and waved in our direction.

"Abel, my man! It's been a long time." The blonde guy, who actually looked a lot like Abel close up, said.

"It has, bro. Way too long." James shifted the guitar strung over his shoulder and turned to face me, a lock of his blonde curls falling into his electric blue eyes.

"You must be Olivia?" He held out his hand, a questioning look on his face.

"Yeah." I nodded before giving Abel my own questioning look.

"Abel!" I heard some girl cry out, throwing her arms around him. I couldn't help but admire how great she looked beside Abel.

Where Abel was fair, the girl was dark hair and dark eyes, dressed in a half shirt and a skirt.

"I thought I'd be seeing you with someone else tonight." James said. It took me a second to realize he was talking to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.

"Abel told me he was giving the tickets to some guy so he could bring you." James looked just as confused as I felt, "Did I misunderstand or something?" He added after a second.

I let my eyes drift back to the girl that was laughing at whatever James was saying, nodding. They started to drift again, falling on Abel, who was already staring at me.

He had bought the tickets for Adrian? Had he set the whole date up?

"Harley, babe. You coming?" The brunette kissed Abel's cheek before darting toward us and slipping under James' arm and kissing him.

"Oh, you're Olivia?" The girl said, holding her hand out with a grin, "I'm Harley Mason, James' girlfriend. You here for Saving James or Coldplay?" I only stared at the bubbly girl in bewilderment.

"Saving James?" I repeated.

"Yeah, my band." James waved his hand, "I better get up there before Jason looses his shit." He kissed the brunette once more before saluting us and walking off. Once he was gone, Harley gave us one last quick smile before jogging around the trailer in front of us.

"You did this? You bought the tickets and forced Adrian to ask me out?" I knew it. I knew that he would try to do something, that he would stick his nose where it shouldn't be.

"I didn't force him to do anything." Abel responded defensively. "He asked for my help, so I helped get the tickets and everything set up for you guys. Then he bailed last minute." He was shaking his head as he dropped the VIP pass over my head.

"That's why you looked so pissed in the bedroom, isn't it?" I questioned.

"Yes. This was supposed to be your night, Olivia. It still is. I'm not going to let some idiot that doesn't know what he's doing ruin this for you, now come on, the band's about to start."

As I followed after him, feeling his hand grip mine, I couldn't help but admit that I had put Abel down so much that I didn't realize that maybe he was trying to climb his way back into my life.
