chapter five: get a room!
annie's
it was friday, and i was making my way to the dungeons for potions. i heard footsteps behind me.
"hey annie! wait up!" someone said.
i turned around and saw the weasley twins.
"hey guys." i said.
"so, we're throwing a party tonight, in the gryffindor common room. can you sneak down to the kitchens and grab some snacks?" fred..or george, i can never tell who is who, said.
"of course! when does the party start?" i asked, feeling excited.
"right after everyone comes back from dinner." they said.
"you got it. it's a good thing i have a free period right before dinner." i said.
i made my way to snape's class, a slight bounce to my steps.
wow, i thought. that's a first.
mavis' pov:
it was my free period, so i was making my way to the quidditch pitch, my nimbus 2000 slung over my shoulder.
i really valued my nimbus. mum got it for me a couple years ago. we can't really afford these type of things that often, but she had been saving up for a while now.
i was about to take off, when i saw someone making their way to the pitch. uh oh. was it mcgonagall here to yell at me?
"are you sure we're allowed to be here right now?" it was wyatt.
i shrugged. "you'd think that they would at least put some charms on this thing if they were that keen on us staying away from it."
he chuckled.
i noticed that he had brought his broom as well. it was a firebolt.
"how are we supposed to play?" i asked him.
"that's why i brought this baby." he said, and took a remembrall out of his pocket.
"wait, did you follow me out here?" i asked.
he turned red. "well, i wanted to see if we were actually allowed to play, and i was hoping to get to know you a little better. you seem really nice." he said.
"how do you know what i'm like? i mean, i don't even talk to anybody." i said.
he grinned. "i don't really know. there's something really special about you, and i just can't seem to get you out of my head."
i felt my cheeks heat up.
"thanks. i guess we should start playing."
it was actually really fun. wyatt is really good at quidditch. obviously not as good as me, but he's one of the best quidditch players i've ever seen.
we were exhausted after, so we took a break and sat down on the side.
"so why'd you actually come here?" he asked me.
"what do you mean?" i asked.
"i know you didn't come here just to play quidditch. tell me. and there's no point in lying. i'll figure it out anyways." he said.
i took a deep breathe. "i go outside and ride my broom whenever there's too much on my mind. it makes me feel better." i revealed. i didn't know why i was telling him this. i had never told anyone this before. but i felt like i could trust wyatt, which is weird, since i have trust issues. especially when it comes to guys.
he put his hand on mine. "you can always come to me when you need to clear your mind. or rant. or both. i'm kind of a good listener." he grinned.
i smiled at him. "thanks wyatt. maybe i will." i placed my head on his shoulder.
"there's going to be a party tonight. i heard fred and george talking about it. are you going?" he asked me.
i shrugged. "i don't really know. parties aren't really my thing. are you going?"
"only if you are." he said.
i smiled. "you know what? maybe i will go." i said. he smiled back and rested his head on mine.
"good to know." he said. we sat there in silence and watched as the sun hid behind the clouds. it was really peaceful.
after a while, i decided to get up. "we should get going. you don't wanna be late for dinner." i said.
he groaned. "but i'm too comfortable."
i laughed. "get up lazy bones." i grabbed his hand and pulled him up, but he pulled me back down. i fell on top of him. we both stared at each other, and then burst out laughing.
i got up, and forced him up as well.
we walked back to the school, and i rambled on and on about my favorite things. it's weird, since i don't really talk much, and i only knew wyatt for a day, but for some reason, i felt a connection with him. while i was in the middle of a heated rant, he laced our fingers together. i looked down at our joined hands, and then looked up at him. he was looking ahead, but there was a small smile on his face. i smiled as well, and continued talking.
annie's pov:
i had sneaked up to the common room with lani, fred and george to set everything.
"okay guys, dinner's about to end, and in less than five minutes, hundreds of warty little gryffindors are gonna come pouring in through the portrait whole. we've gotta make sure everything is perfect. food and drinks?"
"check." lani said. she was eyeing the chocolate eclairs. i slapped her arm.
"butterbear?"
"check!" fred said.
"decorations?"
"check!" george reassured me.
there was red and golden confetti scattered around everywhere, and golden balloons that spelled out: W E L C O M E B A C K T O
H O G W A R T S B E A C H E S
fred and george picked those out.
"perfect." i announced. we all fell on the couches, exhausted.
just then, like i predicted, hundreds of warty little gryffindors came swarming in.
everybody started laughing, talking and eating.
mavis was sitting on an armchair, laughing and chatting with that guy we had seen earlier..wyatt. i smiled. they are kinda cute together. i'll ask her about it later.
lani and ron were pigging out on all sorts of junk food. bella and hermione were shaking their heads in disgust.
asher came over to me. he was walking kinda weirdly and he had this strange look on his face.
"hewwooo leblonkers. heheh get it?" he slurred.
"uhh, asher? are you okay?" i asked.
"peachy!" he said.
"ayyyy!" lani said. she also looked really weird.
"have you guys been drinking firewhiskey?" i asked them.
they both looked at each other, and then said, "no."
oh i am going to kill fred and george.
arendelle's pov:
technically i was supposed to be in bed, but i couldn't sleep, and i didn't have any intentions of doing so either.
cedric has told me that he was going to enter the triwizard tournament. i couldn't help thinking about everything that could go wrong.
i found myself at the astronomy tower. i sat down and looked at the stars. a while later i heard footsteps, and then someone stood next to where i was sitting. it was a boy. a boy with pale skin and blonde hair.
"mind if i join you?" he asked.
"not at all." i said.
we sat in silence for a while.
"i'm draco by the way. draco malfoy." he said, holding out his hand.
"nice to meet you draco. i'm arendelle emilia diggory. but you can call me aren." i think i had heard of him before.
"so aren. what are you doing up here at this time?" he asked me, looking up at the night sky.
"i could ask you the same thing." i replied, looking up as well.
he grinned. "i couldn't sleep and wanted to clear my mind. you?"
"same here. it's only the first week back yet there's so much going on." i said.
"i get it. sometimes i wish everything would just be nice and peaceful for one."
"me too, but life is never that fair. but at least you have your friends." i said, looking at him.
he kept his eyes on the stars though.
"yeah..friends." he mumbled.
i looked at him curiously.
"what's wrong?" i asked.
he shook his head. "it's nothing."
i put my hand on his knee. "i won't judge you. i'm not that kind of person."
he looked at the black and yellow badger stamped on my robes. "you're a hufflepuff." he said.
i put my hands on my hips. "and so what if i am?" i get really feisty when it comes to house pride.
he shook his head. "i- i didn't mean that in a bad way. i really like hufflepuffs. they seem really..sweet." he said really fast.
"anyways, what's wrong." i said, bringing him back on topic.
"well, my friends aren't really..my friends. they just hang around me because they're scared of me. i just wish that i could understand what a real friendship is."
"i get it. well, i don't really get it exactly, since i've never been in that predicament. but i understand." we stayed in silence for a while.
"you wanna be friends?" i asked him.
"you would do that for me? you would show me what it's like to have a real friend?" he asked in disbelief.
"of course i would. i'm not scared of you, and i'm not using you either. what do you say?"
"..thank you." he whispered.
i smiled. "hey. what are friends for?" he smiled back at me, and we continued looking up at the stars and getting to know each other for the rest of the night.
