Chapter 10

Annabeth

"Run!"

"Come here girly!"

"Leave me alone!"

I ran. I can't look back. Run.

As I sprinted down the neighborhood, I took out my phone from my pocket.

Wait. Percy hid this away from you. That means he doesn't want anyone else to know.

Confusion.

But, I'm saving his life. I will call 911, and save him. People have to know. For his safety. Now call the damn police!

My brain was arguing what to do, but I decided to contact 911. I was out of breath, so I came to a stop. I looked behind me, and the fat guy was long gone.

Hah, too fat.

No time to make jokes, Annabeth.

"Hello, 911, what is your emergency?"

"Help! My fri-friend w-was being stab-bed by-by a f-fat guy and then-"

"Hold up. Give me your address and I'll send police your way."

"(something-something-something)" (A/N: I wish I knew where Percy lived...)

"Alright. They are on there way. Hold on tight."

She ended the call. What do I do? I put my phone in my pocket. Should I run back to Percy's house? I promised I would go back, so that's what I have to do.

So, I ran back. I was exhausted from running away from the fat guy, so I had minimum energy.

Why didn't Percy tell me? Why didn't I notice? Was that his step-dad? Where is his mom?

My questions were interuppted as I heard sirens echoing through the streets. I sprinted faster, adrenaline kicking in, and I was determined to get there. I had to. For Percy.

When I reached the house, I found Percy on a stretcher, and he was looking terrible. I ran towards him.

"Percy!" I cried as I held his hand while they carried him.

"You know him?" A medic asked.

"Yes! He's my friend. I called 911." I said desperatly.

"Alright. You have to come with us for questioning. You can come in the ambulance." The medic lead us into the ambulance, into the back.

While I sat next to Percy's stretcher, all I could do is notice the pain in his eyes. Why didn't I notice this from before? How long has this been happening?

I held Percy's hand and he looked up at me. His eyes were shouting something like 'It hurts. It hurts so much. Please help'

"The medics are doing what they can Percy. Stay strong. Please." Tears were in my eyes as the medics connected him to wires and took shots of his blood.

I just met him. How could you like him?

I really don't know.

- Fred quit his job. Derf took over. - (A/N: Someone comment on what I just did right now. Tell me if you noticed it. It's really stupid.)

I waited in the waiting room, hoping Percy would be okay. I didn't dare to tell Helen where I was, because she would make a big fuss about it. But rushing into the room was a lady with brown hair, and brown eyes, but had a motherly aura around her.

"Where is my baby?! Someone take me to him right now!" She rushed into the room, and headed to the desk.

"Ma'am? He is in surgery right now. Please take a seat and calm down. There is another lady waiting for him as well. Go talk to her." The woman at the desk pointed her pen at me.

The woman turned around, and looked at me. She cried and came to sit next to me. Tears continued to go down her eyes, as she took the seat next to me.

"Hey, it's okay. Percy will be okay." I hugged her, and I knew she was most likely Percy's mother. She seemed so sweet, and caring. Unlike any other mom I had ever had.

"You're right. I-I'm s-sorry for bur-bursting in like th-that." She wiped her tears, and I handed her a tissue.

"Sally Jackson, by the way. In case you wanted to know my name." She smiled. Her smile was very sweet, and I wished I could have a mom like her.

"Annabeth. Annabeth Chase. I'm Percy's friend. You must be his mother." I shook her hand, and smiled back.

"Well, Percy never told me about you. Probably because I'm always at work. I'm so frustrated! He was being abused, without me knowing?!" Sally clenched her fists.

"Hey, it's alright. Once he recovers, we will put that fat guy to justice." I placed a hand on her shoulder.

"His name is Gabe. I married him for financial reasons. He's hurting my baby, and he's going to regret it." Sally said, unclenching her fists.

"We'll beat the shit out of him together." I lightly laughed, and Sally did too.

- Derf loves his job -

When the doctor told us it was okay to see him, Sally and I quickly got up and followed him. When the door opened to Percy's room, I ran inside, and looked at Percy.

Tears swelled my eyes as I saw Percy being connected to wires. He was covered in blankets, so I wasn't able to see his scars. Sally chocked back a sob as she held Percy's hand.

"My baby," She whispered as she put her hand on Percy's cheek. "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry." She sobbed, and kissed the palm of his hand.

"It's not your fault." I put a hand on her shoulder.

"He'll be okay." She said, trying to convince herself.

Sally and I stood there, watching Percy in his sleep. I noticed drool seeping out the corner of his mouth, and how his hair was ruffled. Making him 20x more cuter. Wait, what?

Suddenly, Percy's forehead began to sweat, and the heart monitor was beeping quickly. Percy thrashed in his bed, as I yelled for the doctor. Sally watched in horror, crying.

"Doctor! Help!" I said, running out of the room. Doctors looked at me and followed me to Percy's room.

Percy continued to thrash, and started screaming. I put my hand on my mouth, with tears flowing down my cheeks.

"Get out!" The doctors yelled as they began helping Percy.

Sally and I were forced out of the room. As we stood outside the door, we both started hugging each other, exchanging sobs. We cried into each other's shoulders, letting out all the emotions.

He'll be okay.

I kept trying to convince myself that he will, but the more and more I say the same words, I start to second guess myself.

What if he isn't okay?
