RIIIINNNGGGG
Ugh shut up!
RIIIIIIINNNNGGGGGGGG
OKAY. I'm up. I drowsily turned off the alarm. I quickly got off the bed and walked into the bathroom. I looked into the mirror, and what I saw disgusted me. I had a black eye, and a bruise forming on my cheek from my encounter with Gabe yesterday. Today was the first day of school, and now I was a senior.
Another day in hell.
I washed my face, and walked back into my room. I put on black jeans and a blue sweater. I didn't even bother to brush my hair. I ran my hand through my hair, and grabbed my backpack from the floor. I quietly walked downstairs, trying to avoid waking up Gabe. When I heard noise from the kitchen, I froze. I peeked at the corner of the wall, to find my mom cooking breakfast. I released my breath that I didn't even know I was holding. I put on my hoodie, trying to avoid contact with my mom.
"Good morning Percy! Take off your hood, you're inside the house." Sally sighed, while placing my favorite on my plate. Blue pancakes.
"I'm good. Thanks for the pancakes mom." I said, now drowning my pancakes with syrup.
"Well, it's your first day. Should I take you or-" I interrupted her.
"No, I'll just take my skateboard." I quickly stuffed my face and headed towards the door.
I put on my black vans, then put on my backpack. I picked up my skateboard, and said a quick goodbye to my mom.
"Love you," She sighed while I closed the door.
Goode wasn't far from my house. Approximately five minutes from my house, on my skateboard. Ten minutes to walk. High school was hell, and I was the 'shadow kid'. Gabe was already making my life hell. There was this specific kid in my school. Luke is on the football team, and is a dick. He's on the football team, and is considered to be a jock. He makes my life hell, along with Gabe.
Gabe has strict rules I follow unless I would be a dead man right now. My mother only married him so he could help. But I don't see anything helpful in him. All he does is play poker with his friends at the house and beats me when he is drunk. Since I was lost in my thoughts, I bumped into someone. I skidded across the sidewalk, landing on my face, while my skateboard was on top of the person who I ran over. I got up, and limped towards my skateboard. Turns out it was a girl with blonde curls.
"Watch where you are going dumb ass!" She hissed at me. She got up and stared into my eyes. They were intimidating. She had stormy grey eyes, wearing black jeans with a white shirt. To top it was a leather jacket.
"Sorry, you were in the way." I rolled my eyes.
"Sorry that apparently you lost your vision and can't see people walking here!" She fumed, and pushed me out of the way. I watched as she walked further and blended in the crowd.
My knee was bleeding, and I knew had a cut on my forehead.
"Great," I muttered to myself.
I picked up my skateboard and decided to walk the rest of the day. When I reached the school, I took a deep breath. I walked through the enterance, ignoring the comments people were giving.
"Ew, what happened to him?"
"Great, shadow kid is still alive."
"Why can't shadow kid just leave already?"
"Look at his face..."
I went straight to the boys bathroom, and rinsed the cut on my forehead. I took paper towel and gently dabbed it onto my knee. When the blood was gone, I put my skateboard into my locker. I spotted the grey eyed girl walking through the halls. I slammed my locker shut, then went to my first period class. Great, math.
The bell rang, signaling that class is starting. I was always late, so it was no surprise. When I reached Mrs. Craig's door, I took a deep breath and entered. I looked around the room, and saw the grey eyed girl sitting in the back, with the seat next to her empty, glaring at me. I glared back.
"Well, Mr. Jackson, care to explain why you are late?" Mrs. Craig raised her eyebrow.
"No, I'm good." I kept a blank face. This irritated her a bit.
"Well then you can go sit by Annabeth Chase in the back." Mrs. Craig pointed towards, the now Annabeth, girl.
"Anyone but her," I groaned.
"What was that?" Mrs. Craig asked.
"Nothing." I sat by Annabeth and threw my backpack on the floor.
Mrs. Craig continued to teach a lesson and explain things. I had my hoodie up, and I tried to avoid making eye contact. When class ended, I ran out of the room as fast a possible. Classes flew by.
When it was lunch time, I go where I usually sit. In the back by the windows. People never wanted to sit by me, and that is how I liked it. I plugged in my headphones and played music. I stared out into the window. I never have time to pack lunch, so I just starve. My peace just had to be disturbed. I felt someone slam their hand on the lunch table. I looked at the figure. Luke.
"What now, Luke?" I sighed, taking out my headphones.
"Miss me?" He smirked.
"No. I'm quite glad that I didn't have to see your face all summer. Until today." I glared at him, trying to be as calm as possible.
"You never learn, do you?" Luke grabbed me by the collar of my hoodie.
"Fuck off, Luke." I tried to lessen his grip, but he was stronger than me. Heck, he was on the football team.
"Shut up Jackson." Luke walked towards the trash can.
Oh no. Anything but a fucking trash can. Well, this will be humiliating.
"Jackson, go back to where you belong!" Luke smirked as he put me head first into the trash can.
I heard everybody laughing, and I felt embarrassed. First day is completely ruined. I squirmed, but only tipped over the trash can. A banana peel was stuck in my hair, and somebody's yogurt was squirted all over my face. I climbed out of the trash can, to find people pointing and laughing.
"Aye, look at shadow kid!"
"Omg, we so have to post this!"
"Someone take a picture!"
"Look at his face!"
I looked at Luke, who was on the floor, dying with laughter. I got mad and lifted Luke from the ground. I punched him right in the jaw, without hesitating. But he ducked, and tripped me. Then he kicked me in the ribs a couple times before laughing and running off. Mrs. Craig walked into the cafeteria and looked at me weirdly.
"Perseus Jackson! Get off the floor and go clean yourself up!" Mrs Craig yelled at me.
My ribs ached, but I shook off the pain. I walked out of the cafeteria before spotting, what was her name? Annabeth? Before spotting Annabeth leaning on the door of the cafeteria. She looked at me as in saying 'Sorry that that had to happen.'
I looked away and ran to the bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror, and got frustrated. Why did my life have to be so fucked up? Why can't I have a normal life?
"Fuck my life!" I growled at the mirror. I don't want to keep this life. Why can't the pain just leave?
I washed my face and took the banana out of my hair. I let the hoodie drop. The cut from this morning was still there. Along with the black eye and bruised cheek. I touched my black eye, and winced when it met in contact with my fingers. I tried my best to get the stains off of my sweater. I put up my hoodie and heard the bell ring, signaling that lunch ended and it was time to go to the next class. I exited the bathroom, to find Annabeth leaning on the wall.
"What do you want?" I growled. I didn't have time for this.
"What's with your face?" she asked. I thought she was calling me ugly, but then I got scared that she found the black eye and bruised cheek.
"What do you mean?" I said, pulling down my hoodie more to cover my face.
"You know what I mean." She looked at me in the eye, and waited for an answer.
"Mind your own business." I walked past her, shoving her shoulder. Gabe would kill me if I told anyone. I tried to keep a blank face on.
When school ended, I went to my locker and grabbed my skateboard. I quickly got out of the school, before I would see Annabeth again. I had to be home in four minutes. I quickly skateboarded towards the house, right on time. I got off the skateboard and opened the door to the smell of whiskey. I saw empty beer bottles all over the floor. I spotted Gabe sitting on the couch, holding onto a bottle. I quietly closed the door, but my skateboard fell out of my hands.
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath.
Gabe quickly woke up to the sound, and looked directly at me.
"Where have you been you little shit?" Gabe got up, holding the bottle closer to him.
"School." I quickly answered, not making eye contact.
"When I speak to you, you look at me in the eye!" Gabe yelled. He started walking towards me, and I braced myself for what would come.
