Chapter Thirty One

Canada's POV:

All it took was a subtle shake of the head from China for the countries gathered in the room to know what had happened.
Spain screamed and fell to the ground.
Ukraine started to cry softly while comforting her younger siblings who were also crying.
France went ballistic, shaking China roughly and yelling.
Prussia held me close and sobbed into my shoulder.
But I felt numb.
Until I didn't.

My throat hurt from the screams.
"Mattie! Calm down! It vas just a dream!" I heard Prussia call into the darkness.
"So Hector..."
"Zhe baby isht fine. Gött he sleeps a lot better zhan jou most of zhe time." I blinked as Prussia turned the bedside lamp on and turned to me. "Do jou need to see him again?"
I frantically tried to calm my breathing.
Just.
A.
Nightmare.
"Yeah." I panted.
Prussia nodded and climbed out of bed. He was careful not to wake Kuma as he picked me up and carried me across the hall to the nursery Russia and Italy helped decorate.
It was painted a soft blue and had carpets of white. The crib was decorated with little fabric sunflowers. Which would have been extremely fitting if the baby had represented Prince Edward Island since the province had this low key thing for the flowers...but, I mean, the flowers brought the only country larger than me happiness.
And happiness was good.
All over the walls were paintings done by the child's uncle and a recently added provincial flag.
White background with a blue X, pinned in the middle by a golden crest.
Nova Scotia.
New Scotland.
Nouvelle Écosse.
My baby.
Mon infant.
Hector Lovino Vargas.
It was supposed to be Romano Williams...but that was before I knew what Province he represented.
And then I just had to name him after the ship, I mean, I'm a ship...he's a ship. Japan and Hungary are hardcore into ships.
It just had to happen.
I picked up the baby person thing and hugged him close, leaning against Prussia for support.
He had such bright red hair and eyes the colour of the trees covering the whale shaped peninsula. His face was covered in freckles and he had the same curl as me, except his was ginger and off to the side a bit, curling up more like Romano's did.
At least he looked something like his father.
It had been a week. I still had nightmares sometimes. Hector was born really weak and it took a few hours for China to really decide whether there was hope. Most of us were pulling out our hair. Even Alfred was nervous.
But eventually little Nova was placed in my arms and Gil was kissing me in the cheek.
He grew fast. Abnormally fast. Like, places usually grow up over centuries, but I guess God or whoever controls this place (*cough* me *cough*) must have known how terrible I am at baby care.
The house was hectic for the first little while. But it had settled down by now. Everything felt perfect.
Too perfect.

Heyyyyyyy. I really had you there, didn't I?
Funny story, when I was born, my eyes were completely coal black (they're still are pretty dark) and they were too big for their sockets so I slept with my eyes open.
Now imagine this:
You're a nurse and you're working the night shift in the nursery, you see all these sleeping babies and then all of a sudden:
BAM!
This one baby is staring unblinkingly at the ceiling and her eyes are black pits of death.
Yep...definitely the spawn of satan. There's your proof.
