Chapter 16
I felt giddy this morning and like some of the weight was lifted off my shoulders. I had told Luke about what happened all those years ago and he listened without saying a word, no judgment in his eyes. I had left Heath out of it.
Ross had come by my room this morning and asked me if I wanted to head out for a little while. He was still feeling bad about yesterday.
We went down to Kanda Book Town. It was a beautiful morning in Tokyo. There were books everywhere, inside and outside shops, scattered around on racks and little tables along the sidewalks. I would move in here if I could. I was happily feeding my book obsession but Ross was bored to death, huffing every time I squealed at a book. He wasn't into books at all but he put up with it for hours for my sake. Annoying me the whole way like an adorable puppy.
We had gotten back to the hotel with an hour to spare and a bag full of books. It was the boys last show in Japan today and everyone was in high spirits, scattered around the dressing room. Ashton let me pick the music that was played in the dressing room today since he too, felt bad about yesterday.
"Please don't blast Barbie girl or something." He whines.
"Excuse me? This just shows how much you don't know me." I say as I scroll through my iPhone. I pick Fall Out Boys recent album from last year. American Beauty/American Psycho
The Kids Aren't Alright starts to blast through the speakers and Ashton nods at me, satisfied.
Calum gets up after I'm done styling his quiff, I cut his hair was close to his skull on the sides and left a strip of longer hair on top, two blonde streaks running through it.
"Thanks, mate." He gets up, pecking me on the cheek. Luke comes up behind me and looks in the mirror over my shoulder, gesturing to the chair in front of me.
"May I?"
"You may," I smile. Addy was there, sitting next to Ashton but he had come to me. I plug in the hair dryer to dry off his wet hair. I had no idea what shampoo he used but his hair always smelled amazing and was incredibly soft so I always had to resist burying my face in it.
Weirdo
I start the dryer up and run my hands through his hair, untangling it a bit. His eyes close and I figure he likes it so I massage his scalp with my hand instead of using a comb while I dry his hair.
The second I turn off the dryer however, I hear a camera click.
"What—"
"Oh, this is so going up on Instagram." Luke laughs.
"Did you just take a picture of me? Don't you dare!" I say, looking over his shoulder as he covers the screen so that I can't see it.
"I'm not showing you." He shakes his head.
"Lucas! Show it to me right now!" I demand, a grin spreading across my face. He had millions of followers and people would see it in seconds and then I would forever be hated for as long as I lived.
"Fine. It's a selfie." He says, all but shoving the phone in my face so that I can see.
It was a picture of him smiling into the mirror, me behind him with my hand in his hair and the other holding the dryer. I was concentrating but there was a slight smile on my face.
Why was I smiling?
"Can I upload it now?" He asks, rolling his eyes with false exasperation.
"Guys!" Ashton shoots up from his seat on the couch. "We were nominated for five ARIAs!" He shouts.
"What?" All the boys ask at the same time, taking their phones out. Luke takes his one back from me and opens Twitter.
Ashton was still shouting, hugging Addy to him.
Five ARIAs? Holy crap
Looking over Luke's shoulder I see his Twitter feed bursting with "Congratulations" tweets from the fans.
He turns to me in the chair and hugs me to him. ARIAs were a big deal to the band because they were from Australia. Awards in their own country meant a lot to them.
"Five ARIAs!" He shouts and the band runs into each other's arms, dragging us along.
"Five ARIAs!" We all scream huddled together.
