Chapter 10
That was the worst plane ride of my life. Luke kept staring at me the entire time, pulling faces at me when I looked up from the book I had decided to read since I couldn't go to sleep with him annoying me constantly. That man made me feel too many emotions at the same time.
"Is he bipolar?" I whisper to Calum, Montana fast asleep cradled into his side.
Calum shakes his head with silent laughter. "He is a lot of things, I wouldn't be surprised if he was." I groan and close my book, getting up to use the bathroom. Michael had passed out after a while too, his headphones still on and music blaring through them.
I pass Luke on my way and he lifts his head. "Are you enjoying the plane ride, boo?" He asks.
I ignore him and keep walking. Looking out of a window I realize that it is pitch black outside. It gets me a little worked up since I wasn't the biggest fan of dark places ten thousand feet up in the sky.
Rubbing the goose bumps forming on my arms I reach out to open the tiny toilet door. Someone pulls me back into something hard and a gasp escapes my mouth."I asked you a question." Luke hisses into my ear from behind me, my back flush against his front.
I pull away from his grasp and whip around. "And I don't want to bloody answer you! Don't touch me ever again because then the next time we see each other, it will be at court to issue a restraining order against you, do you understand?" I've had enough of his bullshit today.
He puts his hands up with a mock grin. "You might wanna keep it down or you'll interrupt what your little minion and Ashton are doing in there." He points towards the room.
The nerve on this guy...
"Get out of my face." I glare at him and go into the toilet about to shut the door in his cocky face when he puts his leg in, blocking the door from closing. I push harder. Praying for a broken bone.
"I haven't started getting in your face... or pants, baby." He whispers to me.
"—and you will love every second of it when I do." He takes his foot out and the door bangs closed.
---
"What's wrong? I thought you got some sleep on the flight but you look even worse." Addy rubs my back.
"Gee, thanks best friend." I glare back at her. I would glare at my favorite fashion designers right about now if I met them. It was a glare-because-the-world-sucks day for me.
We were waiting to check into the hotel and everyone was scattered around the lobby, fans were screaming mercilessly outside, increasing my headache. The band had a house here in LA so I had no idea why they were here in the hotel right now and I was too tired to bother or care. Instead, I was staring at the wall in front of me trying my best to not look anywhere else.
"Everyone!" Sammy claps, coming out of nowhere. Can everyone not be so loud today?
"We're going to have a meeting in the North ballroom so if everyone can please make themselves there I'll appreciate it." I groan inwardly, so much for getting to a bed.
"Oh cheer up will you? This is your life now." Montana comes to my side, looping her arm through mine. I glare at her too. Little did she know.
We walk into the ballroom to find quite a lot of people gathered around and my eyes go straight to a group of blondes standing around together. Sammy and some others from management were addressing them.
"Who are they?" Addy wonders out loud, but just loud enough for the four of us to hear. There is a girl among them and Luke has his arms around her neck from behind. Ugh. I have seen her before but couldn't quite put a finger on it.
"Is that R5?!" Montana realizes. Oh.
"Are they the opening act?" I ask no one in particular.
Monti frowns "No way, they are a big deal, why would they be opening acts?"
"Let's sit down. They're about to start." The other girl in our little group, Mackenzie says.
We had made fast friends with Mackenzie, well Addy and Montana had since I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone but I liked her already. She was quite funny and put together with a pair of glasses too large for her face and a short bob of brown hair.
"Can I call you Macmac?" I ask her as we sit down, an attempt at being friendly.
"Sure! Everyone calls me that, even the band." She smiles warmly.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming the last time but what exactly is your job?" I inquire, feeling bad at not having been paying attention earlier.
"Oh, it's okay. I'm the bands personal therapist and counselor, whatever you want to call it. Basically, I just go on tour with them and listen to them whine on a daily basis." She laughs.
At the back of my mind, a thought about what Luke must talk to her about crosses and that maybe I should ask her. I swat it away. What that jerk feels is not my problem. "So, a shrink basically?" She was too young to be a shrink really. I would know based on all my experience with many of them.
"You could say that."
"Well, thank god you'll be around because it's just a day into this and I think I need to see one already."
She gives me a sad look. "I've actually heard a lot about you."
---
Luke's Point of View
I just wanted to go to my room and maybe take a girl with me while I'm at it. Instead, here I was, sitting at a lunch table with people who were talking my ear off after already suffering through a two-hour long crew meeting of people trying to suck up to us.
"Yeah, that will be a good idea." Rydel Lynch says. R5 was opening for our new tour. It was sort of a collaboration kind of thing that the management came up with which I couldn't care less about.
Rydel and her brothers were good friends of ours but she had always felt more for me and I wasn't capable of returning those feelings, well I was but I just didn't want too. She was trying to get my attention right now too but the girl sitting two tables away talking to Rydel's brother with the enthusiasm she never showed towards me after the first day we met was the one I had my eyes on.
With that brown hair and those green eyes that sometimes looked like they had brown flecks in them when she was under the sun. She was just plain old beautiful, the kind that took no effort, she was the right amount of feisty and soft mixed together. Someone as perfect as her shouldn't exist. Not in my world. Not when I have lost everything.
Sierra...
---
I frown down at my plate of food, annoyed that Mackenzie wouldn't tell me what she had heard about me, she says that its "private patient stuff." I was guessing it was probably Luke telling her how much he hated me anyway. I wasn't too keen on hearing it.
"May I sit here?" A voice asks, his tall figure towering over me. I look up from my plate of untouched food and see a head full of pale blonde curls looking down at me. The entire table stops their chatter to stare at him.
"Uh, s—sure." I stutter and he smiles brightly, flashing me all his perfectly white teeth.
"Hi, I'm Ross Lynch. Lead singer of R5." He introduces himself, extending a hand to me. He has light hazel eyes that have a playful glint in them and he gives off a joyous vibe which makes my bad mood ebb away a little.
"Sierra McKinnon," I say, shaking his hand.
"Good afternoon ladies, I'm Ross." He says to everyone else at the table and they offer polite greetings in turn.
"So, I hear you're our makeup artist?" He raises an eyebrow, turning towards me.
What?
"I...no I'm actually not. At least, I wasn't told I was. I'm the one for 5SOS." I say, a bit confused.
"Really? Because Lara over there said you were." He nods towards a middle-aged woman a few tables away who is buried in papers and taking down notes vigorously.
"I probably am then." I shrug. I was still confused but didn't want to say anything to him. I was also forgetting to glare at him.
"We're opening for this tour." He explains without me having to ask. Talk about straight forward. I liked that.
"Oh, that's great! But don't you guys have your own tour?"
"We do, but it doesn't start until next fall so management thought it would benefit us for some reason if we do this instead of going on vacation." He air quotes the last word, rolling his eyes dramatically. He was so adorable and I was guessing he was only a year or two older than me.
"So, are you guys from here?" I ask, happy to be getting my mind off the shitty plane ride here.
"Yes, we are." He smiles, popping a baby carrot into his mouth.
"Are you a designer too?" He asks me. Genuinely interested.
"I am. I work for Bradfords."
"Bradfords? Woah there," he widens his eyes for emphasis. "—why exactly are you here then? Shouldn't you be getting ready for the gala tonight? All the designers within a mile radius is getting ready for it. My sister and I are attending too." He tells me like I've been living under a rock.
Lilian had mentioned the gala to me but I had lost track of time and honestly, I wasn't up for attending one today or any day of this week. "I would love to go but I'm just... not in the mood for it." I shrug.
"You are so strange. Wanna be my date for it?" He asks, looking dazed.
"Um...I don't really know. I would love too but..."
"Oh come on. You'll regret missing Elie Saab if you don't come. Have you met him before?" He asks me, completely unaware that his words just shot a wave of heat through my entire body.
"What? Elie will be there?!" I ask him, my voice rising as a grin spreads across my face. It has always been a dream of mine to meet him and I haven't had the pleasure to yet. His designs were some of the most beautiful work I have ever seen.
"I'm surprised you didn't know. Are you a big fan?"
"Huge fan." I squeal, unable to contain myself. Screw being depressed, I wasn't missing Elie Saab for anything. Maybe I can glare at him too while I scream internally.
When I'm done explaining to Ross how much of a huge fan I actually was and how many of my designs were inspired by him, Ross smiles happily at me. No guy has ever shown interest in my work except guys in college and Troye until now. "So you'll come with me?" He asks.
He was so eager I couldn't possibly refuse him. Before I can answer, though, a loud bang echoes through the hall. I look up to see Ashton shouting at their manager, his chair tipped over.
"I'm done with your shit!" He shouts and walks out cussing. My eyes drift towards Luke who I sensed was staring at me again and I'm overwhelmed by the intensity in his eyes when I catch them. What was he mad about now? Or was that jealousy?
"Um, I'll pick you up at six okay?" Ross lets me know and gets up when I nod at him, my eyes still on Luke.
"It was nice meeting you." He says.
"Likewise. See you at six." I smile and watch him jog away to catch up to his band who were leaving the dining hall in a frenzy too.
I look around and see that Addy had run after Ashton.
---
Addy's point of view
"Ash! Ashton stop!" I beg as I run after him, I could see the anger in the set of his shoulders.
"Not now Adelaide." He warns over his shoulder. He hasn't called me that since the day we met. He was worked up, running his hands through his hair.
"What's wrong?" I catch up to him.
"I—I need to think okay...Just, go." He turns around to keep walking but I run around him and come to a stop in front of him, putting my hands on his arms. There were tears filling up his eyes. Oh, my baby.
"Come here," I whisper, pulling him into me. I bring his lips to mine and kiss him with all the passion I have in me, showing him how much I'm in love with his beautiful soul and that he can trust me completely.
He kisses me back with the same heat and passion, he trusted me too. I feel a smile pulling at the corners of my mouth.
"Addy..." He whispers into my lips, it comes out as more of a plead.
"Don't. You don't have to say anything. Just come with me, I can make you forget." I take his hand in mine and drag him into the lift and up to his room.
---
"Stab me Cases, stab me." I was crashed out on the bed, my face in a pillow with all my energy seeping out slowly.
Addy and Ashton were nowhere to be found so Montana and I came up into our room. She was currently looking through my suitcase for a dress I could wear to the gala tonight.
"Knock, knock. Can I come in?" Calum asks from the doorway.
"Well, you're already inside so might as well." Monti jokes.
He comes in and sits on the bed. I sit up with a groan and tie my hair up in a bun.
"Dude, are you okay?" Calum asks me, bouncing on the bed next to me, making the springs creak.
"Fine," I mumble. Not exactly, I think I was coming down with something.
"Why did Ashton get so mad?" Montana asks.
Calum hesitates for a second. "We found out how much our concert tickets and meet and greets actually cost. They are ripping our fans off and we never ever wanted that so we told them to lower it but apparently we can't control that. They kept it from us all this time knowing we wouldn't agree."
"But why can't they lower it? That is unfair." I didn't even wanna know how much they cost.
"Almost all the shows are sold out. So Ashton suggested that we do a second day for the fans for free or give them something since they paid so much but they won't agree to that either." Calum looked heartbroken. These boys really did care about their fans. A second show for free? This was what you called a true bond and a shitload of dedication.
"No wonder Ashton was so angry. I would have punched Nick." Montana admits from the floor where she is sat next to my suitcase.
"We're gonna find something special to do for our fans on this tour," Calum says, a determined look on his face.
"I think I have an idea!" I say as Montana shouts "Aha!" At the same time, breaking my Eureka! Moment and scaring Calum.
"You're going to wear this for the gala!" she holds up a long dress.
"What gala? What idea?" Calum looks back and forth between us, confused.
"Gather the band tomorrow morning. I'll tell you then." I groan, getting up and rushing to the bathroom to start getting ready.
