~30~ The one with flour storms and new names
Hellooo my munchkins
How are you all?
I'm loving doing this updating spree. It's so... Exhilirating.
Wow. Big words. Okay.
Here you go! Muah!
~Kritika~
"Developmental psychology. It is the scientific strata of studying how and why human beings change over the course of their lifetime." I heard Stacey repeat to herself for what felt like the millionth time "It is the scientific... Ugh! It's official, I would never be able to learn all this at this rate. Such huge, fancy words." she grumbled, all but flinging her book across the room.
Our exams had officially begun and were actually going pretty good so far. We had our next one in a week. We had developmental and child psychology so I was pretty excited.
Couldn't say the same about Stacey though.
"Why do we need to learn this load of crap." she said, groaning "..what the hell? So many definitions. Which idiot wrote this book..?" I laughed at that "Stacey.."
"I know, okay? I'm being ridiculous. But I'll never get this done. Why didn't I study all through the year."
"Procrastination, my friend." I said sarcastically but she ignored me "I'd rather die. Might as well write my will." she sighed, plopping on her bed, right where her book was.
"Shut up.." I laughed "..come on, it's easy."
"Yeah, easy for you to say." she mumbled.
I grabbed a chair and sat down beside her "No, really. Don't think of them as definitions. It's just basic stuff." I explained "For example, let's take.. Okay. the definition of developmental psychology, yeah? So, It basically refers to the changes in a human being. Mental changes. That happen over time. Get it?"
She slowly nodded looking pretty much amazed "So it means studying what changes happen in people after they go through all the crap in their life?"
"Basically." I shrugged
"Wow." she let out a breathy laugh "That was very easy."
"Told you." I smiled
"Girl, tutor me ." she said suddenly with a pleading look. I rolled my eyes.
"Would you look at that!" I exclaimed "Ms. I-like-to-study-on-my-own needs tutoring. Today must be my luck day. What a privilege."
"Okay okay, I admit." she sighed, rolling her eyes "I need help. Please?"
I narrowed my eyes in mock thought "Fine." I said after a few moments "but before that.."
"What?"
"Let's eat something." I said, patting my stomach.
"Yes, ma'am." she mock saluted.
"Let's go." I yelled.
"Mooooooooom." Stacey dragged, as we entered the kitchen "She's not here, where is she?"
"Wait let me try." I said "CJ?" I yelled.
"CJ! CJ! CJ!" I chanted and a moment later I saw her coming out of the laundry room.
"I was doing the laundry, girls. Why the ruckus?" she asked "And enough with the yelling, I'm pretty sure even the Martians can hear you."
"We're hungry, mumma." Stacey pouted.
"Okay." she sighed, wiping her brow. She looked weary and tired.
Guilt hit me immediately. Here we were, ordering her around like some servant and she had no break from work, even on a Sunday.
"It's okay, CJ." I said "You look really tired. I'll whip us both something up." I look to Stacey and she nodded in understanding.
"Yeah, mumma" she smiled "Oh and I'll do the rest of the laundry. We're taking a break from studying anyway. Right, Kriti?"
I nodded "Right."
"But girls I--"
"Nope, not another word." Stacey interrupted.
"Exactly! We'll do everything CJ. I promise I won't burn down your kitchen. Or atleast, I'll try not to." I winked at her causing her to let out a laugh.
"What would I ever do without you two?" she said, smiling in clear gratitude.
"I don't know, dine with the Martians probably." Stacey joked, winking at her.
"Right." my aunt laughed, patting both our cheeks "Call me if you need anything, okay?"
"We got it all covered CJ. Go go." I said and we shooed her away.
"Right." Stacey said as we cleared he kitchen counter "What's on the menu chef?"
"I don't know." I trailed "What would you like, sous chef?"
"Hey I'm no sous chef! I'm not helping you cook. I'm doing the laundry already." she stuck out her tongue at me "And.. I want cookies."
"Okay, so cookies it is!" I exclaimed.
"No, actually, I really could use some jelly doughnuts. Wow, my mouth's watering already"
I opened my mouth to reply but she groaned "Ugh! I can't choose! Can I have both of them?"
"But it's so much work." I sighed, shaking my head.
"Please?" she pouted "Oh tell you what, I'll be your sous chef after I'm done with laundry. Please? Please..?"
"Fine." I gave up, but you better help me.
"I'll be right back." she said "Going to go check the laundry."
After she was gone, I let out a short breath.
"Okay." I muttered to myself "Get to work, Kritika."
I grabbed all ingredients needed for making doughnuts when I felt someone enter the kitchen.
"I'm done with the laundry!" Stacey exclaimed and I raised my eyebrows at her "There was just a small pile of clothes, dude. Ms. Sous chef is in the house now."
"Well Miss Sous chef you better be useful and not just eat cookie dough, or I'm taking it out of your paycheck." I said, putting on an apron.
"Gonna take care of that. Will not dissapoint you, Sergeant!"
"Chef." I corrected "Anyway. Okay! Let's whip up a storm."
Three hours, Two mini tutoring lessons with some cracker nibbling and one flour storm later, I was carrying two steaming plates of jelly doughnuts and chocolate chip cookies to CJ's room.
"Knock knock." I yelled, kicking the door open.
My uncle, who was seemingly reading a book, immediately perked up and sniffed the air curiously.
"Are those chocolate chip cookies I smell?"
"Jelly doughnuts too, Mausa Ji." I laughed, holding the plates up for him to see. He immediately made a beeline towards me.
Well, towards the plates precisely.
"I could sommersault in happiness, but guess I'm a little too old for that." He said, grabbing a doughnut and biting into the jelly goodness "I'm officially in heaven" he moaned.
"Control yourself Vikram." my aunt scolded him "You are a grown up for god's sake."
"Well, don't you want any CJ?" I asked her, waving a doughnut towards her teasingly.
"Oh no, no." she shook her head and then winked at me "I prefer cookies."
She let out a little excited squeal when I passed her a plate.
"Being a grown up now, are we?" my uncle rolled his eyes at her.
"Who said anything about me being a grown up?" she shrugged and high fived me "I'm still young."
"You're a teenager, CJ." I exclaimed.
"And your Mausa Ji?" she asked, pointing at him "he's as old as old can get." I let out a giggle at that "Hey! Don't talk like I'm not here." he protested.
"Yeah, totally agree with you on that one." I continued in a loud whisper
"I hate you both." he grumbled "Two against one isn't fair."
"Aww, but we love you Vikram." she said, laughing.
"CJ and I love you Mausa Ji." I giggled.
"Why is it that she gets CJ." he groaned "And I get bloody Mausa Ji."
"Language." CJ scolded.
"Mausa Ji sounds cool." I exclaimed.
"Sure, as cool as a seventy year old grandpa." he said raising his eyebrow at me and I couldn't help but laugh. He was right in a way.
I suddenly had an idea.
"Tell you what." I exclaimed "She's CJ." I said, pointing at my aunt "You could be MJ?"
"Michael Jackson?" he asked looking confused.
"No. Mausa Ji. MJ." I suggested "Oh you know what, I have an even better idea! Chaitra Jones becomes CJ. So Vikram Jones becomes.."
"VJ?" Maasi chimed in and I clapped my hands and let out a squeal.
"Perfect!" I exclaimed "CJ and VJ! What do you think Mausa Ji? I mean.. VJ?"
"Well." he paused "Not bad. I sound cool."
"Not cooler than me." my aunt interjected.
Before he could reply, Stacey burst into the room looking like she had just run a marathon.
"M&Ms... Room.. Bag.. All over the.. Floor." she wheezed.
My ears perked up when she said M&Ms. I do remember having a huge bag of them in my bag and.. Oh crap.
I rushed to my room and let out a cry of despair.
"No." I cried my eyes taking in the huge mess on the floor "My poor M&Ms."
"What a mess!" CJ exclaimed.
The room floor was a mess of rainbow and chocolate.
"I'm sorry." I heard Stacey say.
"No, it's not your fault." I wailed "I forgot all about them. The packet was open. It was bound to happen some time."
I then proceeded picking up stray M&Ms that lay all over the floor. Some even ended up on my pillow.
"Ruined." I sighed, throwing them into the empty bag one by one "All of them, ruined."
"I'm sorry." she apologized again "I just wanted to have a look at your class notes. I'll get you a new packet, okay?"
"No, no." I shook my head "It's not about new M&Ms. Don't you see? It's about the dead M&Ms lying on my floor. May they all rest in peace. We've lost some good men out there today."
"Dead M&Ms?" she repeated " Seriously? Wow, no wonder that Zayn calls you Candy."
My jaw dropped open "Where did that come from?"
"Zayn, eh?" my aunt interrupted, winking. Ever since I mentioned about him,she was absolutely and utterly convinced that I had a crush on Zayn or something.
Guess I finally knew where Stacey got her Sherlock Holmes instincts from.
"It's nothing like that CJ, trust me." I said, hunting for any more stray M&Ms.
"He sounds like a nice guy though, this Zayn." she added, still grinning.
At the mention of his name, my mind started to reel.
I was immediately reminded of the time I found him that day in that alleyway, drunk out of his mind. I hope he was okay now.
What was he even thinking? Idiot.
That was weeks ago but I could still mentally picture Liam scolding him for being 'utterly irresponsible' and for his 'atrocious behaviour'.
Louis really had given him the perfect name. Father Hen.
I laughed quietly to myself
"What are you laughing for?" I wonder where would the boys be without him being there with them..
Probably in jail.
For now, I just hoped everything was okay with them. I couldn't even call them up before my exams got over.
One more week, I thought to myself
Then it'll all be over.
~Liam~
I dialled her number again.
"The number you are trying to reach is either switched off or not reachable" a monotonous male voice greeted me "Please like lat--"
I ended the call and let my phone fall on my bed.
Where are you, Kritika...
