A wedding. Bella and Edward had personally handed out each of the invitations after learning that Lydia had woken up. According to what Jasper told them, Bella was very impatient to deliver them from the moment Charlie gave them his blessing, but Edward insisted it was disrespectful considering Carlisle's situation.
Nobody was really surprised, but it was unpleasant to hear it that way. They expected more from Bella after everything they had done for her, and although none would say it aloud, she was somewhat guilty of what had happened because all the confrontation they had with the newborns and Victoria was because of her. Besides, she had barely shown interest in Lydia's health, not even had the decency to congratulate her on the birth of her child because she was more concerned about her wedding and all the preparations for her transformation as soon as possible. Honestly, several of the Cullens expected a little more respect for the situation, especially after what they had done for her, although it was something they wouldn't hold against her.
Alice was actually the most excited about the whole thing and didn't stop repeating to Lydia that she would also take care of organizing her wedding. Carlisle and Lydia had agreed to have their wedding when Maven turned one. They were in no hurry now that they were both immortal, and although they were excited about the prospect of getting married, they could wait a little longer.
Right now, they wanted to focus on Maven. They were first-time parents, so they had many doubts about it, besides, he was a supernatural child. It wasn't the same as raising a normal baby. Where it would be a little less... complicated. There were no guides to explain how to take care of a half-vampire, half-angel, half-hunter baby.
Maven had a lot of strength for his age, and there were tiny bumps in his mouth that Carlisle discovered were fangs. It wasn't normal for newborns to have teeth, not even something tiny, so he supposed it was because Maven would be able to feed on blood. Now that he was with his mother, he didn't cry much, but when he did, it was a really unbearable sound. And they were still discovering new things about the baby.
Among the little Carlisle had discovered so far was that the child enjoyed excellent health, he was growing like an average human child, with the difference that he had some abilities that only vampires have. He wasn't aware of the abilities of the Nephilim, so he couldn't be sure if he had inherited any related ability.
Lydia made her appearance after a couple of weeks, even though she had improved in just one day, it would seem very strange to the others, so they decided that it was best to pretend that she had been in recovery, anyway, she decided to leave her job for a while to be completely focused on her family. Besides, she had many years ahead to continue doing what she loved so much. But for her, at that moment, the only thing that mattered was her son and her future husband.
So the days began to pass, which turned into weeks, and when they realized it, the day of Bella and Edward's wedding had arrived.
Undoubtedly, a day that everyone would remember for the rest of their lives.
Alice handed her a beautiful lilac dress, all the girls would wear dresses of that color, and Lydia had no problem with that. It was Rosalie who bought a nice suit for Maven, who was the center of attention at the reception because of how adorable he looked. He could already open his eyes completely, which turned out to be an intense blue color, just like Carlisle's when he was human, but his hair was rather brown, like Lydia's. It was a perfect combination of both.
The Denalis were very happy for Lydia and Carlisle, besides, they didn't leave the poor baby alone for a moment. He passed from arm to arm every second. Of course, the couple was very happy that their son was very welcome among all their acquaintances and friends. At first, no one believed it, but after a short explanation, everything made sense. Besides, they had to tell the Denalis that Lydia was a Nephilim, otherwise, everything would be more complicated and strange. However, they promised to keep the secret.
Charlie was one of the guests who spent the most time carrying Maven and showing him to everyone, giving some words like: look, it's Lydia and Dr. Cullen's son. Isn't he cute?
Billy Black assured him that he was a beautiful baby.
In addition to Rosalie, who had a great interest in the baby, Evander was also interested, although he didn't show it as openly or publicly. Suddenly he arrived with Lydia and asked if he could take care of him for a few hours, and of course, she agreed without any problem. Later she realized how happy Evander looked with the child, taking him from one place to another and showing him the paintings around the house. Besides, he arrived with some gifts for the child. But not only him, most of the Cullens always arrived with something for the newborn. Whether they were toys, clothes, food, or different things he might like. They just gave him everything.
Everyone began to take their places when the ceremony was about to begin. Maven returned to his father's arms with a huge smile. Carlisle and Lydia sat on the front bench, between Alice and Jasper on Carlisle's side and Esme and Evander on Lydia's side.
The only one who didn't smile or seem very happy to be in that place was Evander. Esme had scolded him a couple of times already, but the man's expression didn't change much. He had already said what he thought about this marriage, and he wouldn't change his mind.
Then Edward settled into his place. Lydia had never seen him happier than at that moment; he was genuinely happy for him. And finally, the music began to play. Everyone stood up and looked back, where Bella began her entrance. She was wearing a really beautiful dress, Lydia had seen it before, but it was undoubtedly a thousand times more beautiful at that moment. It was a pity that Bella seemed so insecure.
She arrived at the altar with Edward, and everyone took their seats. The ceremony began.
The bride and groom said their wedding vows, and Edward said some really beautiful words that made more than one person cry. Especially the girls.
"Then, if there's no one who opposes this marriage..."
"Stop this," a voice was heard, and everyone turned to look.
It was Jacob Black. He seemed somewhat tired, his eyes were swollen from probable crying, and although he was wearing a nice suit, he was a complete mess.
Bella paled upon seeing him. As if she were in a horror movie, where the killer was about to kill her.
"Jacob, get out of here," she said, but he refused.
"You can't get married," he took a couple of steps forward.
Edward was confused and annoyed. Who the hell did he think he was? However, these were moments when he didn't know if he hated his gift or not.
"Jacob, you better leave here," Charlie got up and approached him.
"No," he looked straight at Bella, "she... Bella is expecting a child of mine," he finally confessed.
Everyone was in complete shock. Carlisle handed the baby to Lydia and quickly approached Edward, who seemed to be in a state of shock. Ev
ander, Emmett, and Jasper also approached.
"Edward, don't believe him," Bella shouted, "that's not true."
But it was too late. Edward already knew it, Evander knew it, Jasper knew it... that Bella was lying.
"I have the evidence here," Jacob spoke again, taking out a pregnancy test and a letter.
Edward was in zombie mode but still approached and took the things. He couldn't believe it. He didn't want to believe it. But there it was all, and not only in the test and the letter. Jacob's thoughts were all he needed.
"Let's get him out of here," Carlisle spoke and took Edward's arm firmly. The poor man walked by mere inertia.
"Edward, no," Bella tried to go after him, but it was Rosalie who stopped her. She was very upset with her.
On the other hand, Alice seemed disappointed. If she hadn't seen that, it was because of the wolf interfering with her visions. But even she felt betrayed. She had seen her transform and be very happy with her brother. What had changed? She didn't understand. Really not.
Lydia noticed it. How hurt Alice seemed, and without thinking for a second, she approached her.
"Come on, Alice," she took her hand, "let's go inside."
She didn't say anything, but she began to walk when Lydia did. In the background, the murmurs of the guests and the pleas along with Bella's crying to keep Edward from leaving could be heard. Everything was complete chaos.
Esme took care of the situation after Charlie and Renée managed to take Bella away from that place. She apologized to the guests and mentioned that the wedding would be canceled.
Little by little, they began to leave. Except for the Denalis, who wanted to give their support to Edward.
It was really uncomfortable for everyone. But it was devastating for Edward and the rest of the Cullen family.
They had risked so much for her, had opened the doors of their home and their souls to her... but she seemed to never care. It was evident that she was with Edward for one thing only.
Immortality.
