♡ ﹙ ultrasound﹚ ❋ ˚ ݂ ꛒ
"Everything is perfectly fine," Dr. Winlow said to them as he alternated between looking at the screen and the girl. "In the ultrasound, we can see that everything is developing well, and the other tests show favorable results. Maybe you'd like to schedule your monthly appointments, or I don't know if you prefer to go to Seattle. They have better equipment there."
Lydia smiled, still holding Carlisle's hand. She couldn't quite believe it yet and remained more than excited. However, the mention of Seattle almost made her roll her eyes. Her sister and brother-in-law were there. For no reason would she approach them, even if it were her only option.
"I'll take care of the follow-up, Dr. Winlow. It's just that Lydia wanted a second opinion," she said, almost chuckling with amusement. The paranoid one was Carlisle, although he would never admit it.
"It's just that Carlisle is a bit anxious and needed someone else to tell him that everything was fine for him to truly believe it," Lydia continued, still looking at the screen. "Thank you very much, Dr. Winlow."
The man smiled tenderly as he looked at the first-time parents. They weren't the first ones to arrive almost in shock.
"I understand. It's normal to feel a bit panicked during the first pregnancy, but I can assure you that everything is going wonderfully," he said, removing the transducer, and that was when Lydia stopped looking at the small screen. "In a minute, I'll give you the photo of your first ultrasound."
The girl nodded excitedly as she watched the doctor leave the office. Carlisle squeezed her hand a little tighter.
"You're almost three months along," he spoke softly with a small smile. "I remember we were in Spain. Our first stop in Europe."
Lydia nodded and got up from the examination table, adjusting her clothes. Carlisle helped her put on her coat, and they finally left the office. They walked through the halls of the small hospital, earning certain looks from the staff. As soon as they entered Dr. Winlow's office, many guessed what was happening.
Dr. Knox and Dr. Cullen were going to have a baby. But since neither had said anything about it, no one dared to congratulate them on the new addition to their family.
They both arrived at the parking lot after being handed the ultrasound photo. Carlisle opened the passenger door and helped Lydia get in, then he got in, and they headed to the Cullen residence. Lydia stared at the photo with a smile as the car moved.
"Evander has been researching a bit, but he says there's nothing. Nothing like this has ever happened before, but he says he'll keep investigating with some of his acquaintances," Carlisle said, placing a hand on Lydia's leg. "Vampires aren't supposed to conceive, and I don't have a clear answer for this."
Lydia smiled, placing her hand on top of the blond's.
"I called my mother and told her. She shouted for half an hour out of excitement, but in the end, she said she didn't know it could be possible. There are no stories or anything similar. Besides, I told her not to mention anything to dad or Lilian."
He nodded.
"Well, we just have to be careful and make sure our baby develops well."
Did she hear correctly? Did he say "our baby"? Lydia almost cried with excitement at the same time she felt a flutter in her stomach. She blamed the hormones, but still, she felt so excited to hear the blond's words.
"I think it's because of the angel blood I have," the girl spoke after a moment. "I suppose that helps stabilize my body and the baby."
"I think the same. If you were just a human... I don't think your body could handle it."
Lydia looked at Carlisle's suddenly somber expression. She knew what worried him and pressed his hand a little harder.
"Everything will be fine, Carlisle. You heard his heartbeat in the ultrasound... besides, I'm sure you'll be the best father in the universe."
Carlisle smiled. He would lie if he said he wasn't afraid, but never in all his immortal life had he been as terrified as he was at that moment.
"Lydia... I would like you to stay at the house with me and the others. I would feel more at ease knowing that I have you by my side all the time or that the others will be taking care of you if I'm not there."
Lydia looked out the window quite displeased. She loved the Cullens, but she didn't love the idea of not having privacy in that house where everyone heard even a whisper or got into her head. But she also understood Carlisle's concern. She was also scared and remained positive only for the well-being of both of them.
She placed her free hand on her belly and gently caressed it.
"Alright," she murmured, looking back at the man. "But on weekends, we'll go to my house."
He smiled with a nod.
"Agreed."
As soon as they arrived at the Cullen residence, Emmett was waiting at the entrance with a huge smile that bared his teeth. Lydia also smiled as she shook her head and pulled out the photograph. Emmett took it with excitement and looked at it for a moment.
"You should start thinking of a name."
Lydia had almost forgotten that part. She was more concerned about the baby's well-being that she couldn't think of anything else.
"Everything in its time, Emmett," Carlisle said, embracing Lydia's shoulders. "I promise you'll be the first to know when we have it."
Emmett smiled even more. He wanted to hug Lydia, but he knew his excitement wouldn't let him fully control his strength, so he resisted and gave her a pat on the head instead.
"Come on, Esme and Evander will be excited to see the photo too."
The couple entered the house with Emmett close behind. Both Esme and Evander were waiting in the living room, very excited. They all knew that afternoon Carlisle and Lydia would go for the ultrasound, and they didn't know if they should be excited or scared. But seeing the expressions of the future parents and having heard Emmett's loud voice full of excitement, indicated to them that everything was more than fine.
Esme was the first to have the photo in her hands and couldn't help but hug Carlisle tightly and then Lydia, controlling her strength with her. It was Evander's turn next, who smiled at the black and white image. He couldn't be happier for Carlisle; it was just what he deserved.
"We should frame this and find a place in the house for each month's photos," Esme said with some excitement, taking the photo from her husband's hands.
Lydia was about to say it wasn't necessary, but Carlisle stopped her. No one would change Esme's mind at that moment. She was more than excited and had even designed the future baby's room. Lydia bit her lower lip, suppressing a laugh as she watched Esme go in search of an empty frame.
"We're all very excited, Lydia," Evander said to her. "But Esme is probably the most enthusiastic, along with Alice. Maybe I shouldn't say it, but she's already gone shopping and is probably already organizing the baby shower."
Lydia really didn't know what to say, so she preferred to remain silent. Fortunately, Carlisle spoke up.
"Let's go, I'll make you something to eat."
"Yes, thank you."
They left Evander in the living room, and they headed to the kitchen. She was actually starving, but with all the excitement, she had almost forgotten. Upon entering the kitchen, she noticed it was filled with supplies, every shelf and even the refrigerator were completely stocked with food and ingredients.
"Esme got excited this time," Carlisle said as he took some ingredients from different shelves. "You can take whatever you want whenever you want, and you can also ask me to prepare whatever you want. I found out I like cooking," he glanced quickly at her with a smile.
"It wasn't necessary, but thank you," she sighed and leaned her elbows on the table, still watching the blond's movements. "I suppose I'll have to improve my diet now. I just hope I don't have strange cravings."
Carlisle let out a small laugh at the comment.
"Don't worry about that. Whatever you want, just ask, and I'll give it to you."
"Anything?"
He looked at her for a second.
"Anything."
She smiled.
"Right now, I want a kiss."
Carlisle stopped what he was doing to approach Lydia and gently cup her cheeks.
"I can give you that right now," he smiled.
He joined his cold lips with hers in a slow and deep kiss that lasted almost a minute. Upon parting, Carlisle continued cooking while Lydia watched him.
Honestly, she couldn't feel happier than in that moment.
