"Still, we can turn around at the next exit and watch a horror movie while I eat a big bowl of popcorn," Lydia said with a pout.
Carlisle chuckled softly as he glanced quickly at the girl.
"Lydia, you've made me turn back four times since we left your house, and we're going to miss our flight if we keep this up," he spoke calmly. He knew Lydia was a bit nervous about the whole situation, so he tried not to pressure her.
She rolled her eyes. That was precisely the point, but she had already confirmed her attendance, and deep down, she wanted to show off her boyfriend to everyone. And everyone meant Lilian and Jonah.
Carlisle, in a handsome custom-made suit, strutting around a bunch of mere mortals, was definitely going to anger Lilian and damage Jonah's massive ego. He just wanted to see their expressions and laugh in their faces.
"I'm sorry. I'm nervous, and I can almost predict that Lilian and I will make a scene in front of everyone," Lydia said.
"I won't let that happen," he smiled and took her hand.
"I know."
The flight lasted a couple of hours, and they arrived shortly after eight in the evening at Rochester International Airport, where a taxi took them to their hotel. Carlisle was in charge of carrying the suitcases, although there were only two. They had arrived on Friday night, the wedding was on Saturday night, and they would return on Sunday morning.
Once in their room, Lydia realized that she had never shared a bed with Carlisle. She knew he didn't sleep, but she wasn't sure if he would accompany her to bed or do something else while waiting for dawn. There were still many things she didn't know about how Carlisle's life worked.
"I'll take a bath," she said to distract herself from that thought.
Carlisle was carefully taking out his outfit for the next day to avoid wrinkling it.
"Alright. Call if you need anything."
She took her things to the bathroom and locked herself in. Her head was about to explode, or maybe her hormones. She reminded herself that she was no longer a horny seventeen-year-old teenager... although it had been a while since there had been much action. Since she broke up with Jonah, there had been no one in Lydia's life until Carlisle came along, and to be honest... she felt very needy.
This was not the time to think about that!
It took her a little longer than usual in the bathroom, and when she came out, she was already dressed in black and white checkered shorts and a basic gray blouse.
"You can use the bathroom if you want," she murmured.
Carlisle smiled, looking up from his reading.
"I guess a bath wouldn't hurt," they both knew he didn't need it, but Carlisle could hear Lydia's racing heartbeat and wanted to give her a moment alone to relax.
Lydia saw him enter, and she approached her suitcase to take out her skincare products and hairbrush. She had brushed her teeth after showering.
She settled in front of the small vanity in the room and looked at herself in the mirror while brushing her hair and applying a couple of creams to her face and the rest of her skin. She had to keep her head cool, so she only thought about the procedure for a stomach wash in case of poisoning. It was the first thing that came to mind.
But all that went to hell when Carlisle came out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around his hips. She even forgot how to breathe properly. She swallowed loudly and returned her attention to how she was brushing her hair when she realized she had looked at the man more than she should have.
But... he was all hers. Why not take him? Why not give it a little try? Why the hell was she so nervous about taking that step with Carlisle? She was a bit scared of what he might think of her, but sooner or later, it would happen, right?
Carlisle dressed without much hurry in a basic white T-shirt and black pants.
"Is everything okay?" the man asked as he dried his hair with the towel.
It took her a moment to process the question.
"Yes. I think I'm just sleepy."
He nodded with a subtle smile. He secretly enjoyed teasing and provoking Lydia to see how far she would go.
"Then you should get into bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day."
She stood up almost automatically, not liking to sleep with wet hair, but now it was the only way to avoid the increasing heat on her face.
"Will you sleep with me?" she asked as she settled under the covers.
He smiled.
"I can keep you company only if you want and if it doesn't bother you."
"It doesn't bother me," she sounded almost defensive.
"In a second, I'll be with you."
Lydia took a moment to control her breathing but settled into the bed and stared at the ceiling. Carlisle had chosen one of the most expensive rooms, and undoubtedly, it was very comfortable. The bed was queen-sized, so there was enough space for the two of them and then some.
Carlisle turned off the lights and joined Lydia in bed, taking up the other space. Lydia moved closer to Carlisle and nestled into his chest; it was cold, which was exactly what she needed. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders as she placed a hand on his abdomen.
But right now, she couldn't even think about sleeping. She closed her eyes tightly and counted to a hundred, but she found it impossible to fall asleep.
"Carlisle?" she murmured in the darkness after a few minutes.
"What's wrong, sweetheart?" he continued tracing small circles on her shoulder with his thumb.
"I can't sleep," she tightened her grip on his abdomen.
Carlisle began to gently stroke Lydia's back, almost squirming under her touch.
"Tell me how I can help you," his voice sounded in a murmur too.
Lydia pulled away from Carlisle, sitting on his thighs and looking at him with flushed cheeks. Neither of them said anything, and Lydia straddled Carlisle's abdomen.
His golden eyes shone in the darkness of the room. She leaned just a little to attack the man's lips with incredible need and Carlisle's hands went to the girl's waist, right where the fabric of her blouse had risen and exposed a bit of her skin. .
Carlisle was embarrassed to admit that he was also a little needy, as a doctor he knew it was completely normal and that communication between couples was the most important thing, but it wasn't easy for him and that's why he had been not-so-subtly teasing Lydia. that she was encouraged to take the first step.
Was he ashamed? A bit. Did she regret it? Of course not. Besides, he trusted her excellent self-control and knew that nothing would happen to Lydia, nothing besides making her feel good. Very good.
The clothes began to be left over and Lydia did not miss the opportunity to run her small hands over Carlisle's body. And Carlisle did the same, he carefully ran over Lydia's body as if she were the most beautiful piece of art he had ever held in her hands.
Lydia sighed, Carlisle's cold hands made her skin crawl wherever she touched and she just loved it.
•••
When Lydia opened her eyes, she felt quite sore, but it was as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She felt light and very happy. She still had her eyes closed when she felt Carlisle kissing her exposed shoulder.
"Good morning," he murmured with his lips pressed against her skin.
She smiled sleepily. "Hello," she managed to say, and after a moment, she was able to open her eyes.
"Did you sleep well?"
She nodded with a big smile.
"We should have done this a long time ago," she said.
Carlisle laughed and kissed her shoulder again.
"I have no doubt about that. But maybe now you want to go have some breakfast."
She sighed deeply and shifted between the blankets to hug the man.
"Can we stay in bed all day?" she asked.
"I would love to, but we have to go to a wedding."
Wedding? What was he talking about? Oh... right, her sister's wedding. She groaned into the man's chest and closed her eyes again.
"What time is it?"
"Almost ten."
Lydia groaned again and in a second, she had fallen back asleep. Carlisle wondered if he had really worn her out last night. Still, he let her sleep a little longer as he couldn't miss lunch if they had already skipped breakfast.
It was a very quiet morning, and by twelve, they were at the hotel's restaurant. Lydia was eating, and Carlisle was making sure she really was eating. The looks at the man didn't wait long, along with some murmurs that only he could hear if he paid enough attention. Although at that moment, all his attention was on Lydia, and nothing else mattered.
Almost twenty minutes later, the girl's phone started ringing. It was her mother asking again if she would attend the wedding, and Lydia rolled her eyes, earning a laugh from Cullen. She told her mother that she had arrived in town last night and would be at the reception at six o'clock sharp for the ceremony. Carlisle heard the woman sigh in relief through the speaker.
There wasn't much to do, especially when the sun was shining brightly outside. So Lydia and Carlisle decided to take a long bath in the huge tub in the bathroom and relax for a while before getting ready. Lydia was still sore, but the man offered to give her a little massage while he soaped her back.
It was four-thirty in the afternoon when Lydia decided it was a good time to start with her hair and makeup. The salon was fifteen minutes away from the hotel, but she had to arrive on time, or her mother would faint.
It was something really simple because she didn't know how to do much. She decided to leave her hair down but styled it so it wouldn't frizz too much. The makeup was a bit more elaborate, although what stood out the most were her red lips.
On the other hand, the dress was quite simple. It was navy blue with straps and a sweetheart neckline, although the neckline extended halfway down her sternum, and there was a slit that exposed her leg every time she walked.
Carlisle couldn't help but look at her with wide heart eyes for a while.
"I have a gift for you," said the man, taking something out of his jacket.
She looked at him curiously and took the small square box. It was almost the size of her palm but didn't have much volume. She opened it carefully and saw inside a necklace. The chain was very thin, and the pendant was a heart engraved with a rose.
"It's beautiful, Carlisle. Thank you," she hugged him tightly, "can you help me?"
"Of course."
She turned her back, and Carlisle took the necklace to carefully place it around the girl's neck. He kissed her neck once he put the pretty necklace on.
"I also have a gift for you," she said excitedly and ran to her suitcase.
This time Carlisle looked at her curiously. She handed him a quite heavy box, and when he opened it, he found a beautiful and elegant silver Jeager-Lecoultre watch.
"I know you probably already have a million watches, but I thought you would like it."
He took it out of the box and looked at it closely. On the back, something was engraved. "For Doctor Number One." A big smile spread across the man's face.
"It's the best gift, Lydia. Thank you very much."
He took off the one he was wearing and put on the new one.
"I guess it's time to go."
"I guess so."
The trip to the salon was short, or at least that's how Lydia felt. The taxi dropped them off at the entrance where they noticed there were quite a few people, and Lydia knew many of them. She was starting to feel dizzy.
"Calm down. Everything will be fine," Carlisle said as he offered his arm for her to start walking.
Lydia hugged him and tried to smile as she greeted her former coworkers. Many of them were really surprised that Lydia showed up.
The ceremony was going to take place in the same place as the party, so there was no need to move. Lydia approached one of the entrance organizers to find out which table she was assigned to. Even the organizer seemed surprised that Lydia was present, but he told her that her table was number three. Next to the bride and groom's table.
It was perhaps a little more uncomfortable than she had imagined, but at least no one had stopped to talk to her, and that was a complete relief.
