~ ~ Chapter Thirty Three ~ ~

It’s been three days since we arrived at this motel and my phone hasn’t stopped ringing for all three of them but I needed to leave it on in case Darcy calls. So now Baden and the rest of them who I keep ignoring are going to be extra mad because I'm not answering. Though in my defence, I did message Baden and told him both me and Amberly were safe and sound and to not worry and that he should worry about himself more.

“Pizza is here!” Amberly called out, snapping me out of my thoughts as she nodded at the closed motel doorway.

Sighing softly, I climbed to my feet and picked up my wallet before opening the door and paying the guy then taking our food. I handed Amberly her box and then went and sat back down again on my bed to eat my lunch and watch TV in silence.

Stepping out of the shower in a clean pair of jeans and black tight t-shirt I noticed Amberly had fallen asleep. Glancing at her casts I felt so bad for her, it must be driving her crazy to not be able to do anything but the top part of the cast on her leg made great use for noughts and crosses while we were on the bus.

Picking my phone up I crossed the room and stepped out the front door and dialled the only number of the only person I am speaking to outside of this annoying boring room.

“Hey De, we need to talk. Can you stop by?” I smiled slightly to myself as he answered his phone.

“Nope.” And he popped the P before hanging up.

I stared down at the phone in my hands horrified he had just hung up on me. What the hell was his problem? I'm going to strangle him next time I see that- I cut my own thoughts off at the sound of a familiar jet black done up sports car screaming into the parking lot and towards me.

My lips pinched together as I glared at the driver who was grinning back at me. That little smart ass. He pulled up a stop and cut the engine before jumping out, “Love you too girl!” Darcy shouted with a laugh.

“You could have just said you were around the corner, you know.”

“Nah, where’s the fun in that? Your face was priceless when you heard me coming.” He grinned as I walked over towards him.

“Ha ha, you got me.” I muttered dryly as I rolled my eyes while Darcy pulled me into a tight bear hug before letting go.

We walked around to the back of his car and sat down on the boot, “So what does a fine young thing like you need my impressive skills for?”

Yeah, Darcy’s never really been one to beat around the bush unless he actually feels like stalling – which isn’t that often. As he always reminds everyone; he’s a busy man with not enough time in the day to get everything done he wants to do.

“Well, it’s more what your contacts can do for me.” I smiled and he groaned loudly.

“Girl, you’re not going to do anything stupid are you?”

Shaking my head I frowned at him, “Hells no. I just want Jenny McFee’s whereabouts. She was in on Ambos’ kidnapping and I bet she knows more too and I want the information she has.”

I had spent the last three days trying to come up with an actual plan that would make some kind of difference and then it hit me – Jenny. She was the only key link I had that I could actually have a chance at getting information out of. She was female and my old friend, I think I had a pretty good shot without having to go to drastic measures.

“Jenny McFee hey?” Darcy mumbled as he rubbed the stubble on his chin, he always does this when he is thinking, “Hmmm, I reckon I know a guy who knows a guy who might know someone who has her address.”

Rolling my eyes again I watched him pull his black phone out and scroll through his contacts. His black phone is his business phone and his red phone has all his actual friends – I'm in the red phone. Darcy is a weird guy but one day he is going to find a girl, who will appreciate his quirky ways and lifestyle, I just wasn’t that girl.

Sure we got along and everything but he isn’t Baden Johnson.

Zoning Darcy’s conversation out I pulled Amberly’s phone out of my back pocket and switched it on, I had already programmed it to silent so Caveman’s constant ringing wouldn’t annoy me while I was using the web and other applications.

Her background wallpaper popped up and it made me smile every time, it was of her and Caveman and they both have big smiles on their faces. I think I love this picture so much because Amberly is truly happy here and Caveman actually looks it too.

Then within the next minute of having turned it on, the messages flooded through all from Caveman and one unknown one which made me frown. It was a mobile number obviously but she didn’t have the person stored in her contacts. Maybe it is a wrong number? But still, I opened it anyway.

‘If you think what I did to you when I kidnapped you was horrible, then you haven’t seen nothing yet if you don’t get them Johnson dogs off of my back! No messing around little sister!’

My heart stopped beating for a few seconds and my blood ran cold as I realised who it was but then I grew angry. Angry that he thought he could pin this all on Amberly and use her to get to the boys. He obviously doesn’t know about us six being loyal to one another, well seven if you include Darcy but he’s only really loyal to us two girls.

Hitting the reply button, I sent back my own message, ‘Hey Scumbag – Leila here, you can shove ur threat up ur ass and go rot in hell! Ur biggest stupid mistake was taking her like that and ur gonna pay 4 it!’ Holding my finger above the send button I felt a little indecisive, should I or shouldn’t I send it? With a shrug of my shoulder I hit send. It won’t change anything, he will still be after us and he still won’t give up but I felt a little better at giving him a tiny inch of my mind.

“That looks a lot like Ambos’ phone.” Darcy was now holding his phone in his hand and looking down at the one in mine.

Smiling, “That would be ‘cause it is.”

Darcy nodded slowly, “Okay. So, I’ve got an address but what I need to know – do you need a gun or any weapons? Just in case she isn’t alone?” he looked dead serious too.

Shaking my head, “Nah, Baden slipped a hand held into my bag but I doubt I will need to use it.”

He raised an eyebrow, “Guess not since I will be with you and can handle any others that might be there.” Then a grin spread across his face, “I haven’t had a good confrontation in awhile now, this will be fun.”

Rolling my eyes I asked for the address and punched it into Amberly’s GPS in her phone. Turns out we were only an hour away from where Jenny apparently was and I had no doubt she would be there since Darcy’s information is never wrong – mostly because the last person who gave him misleading information got the crap beaten out of him by Darcy himself.

“Do you think Ambo will be safe here alone?” I asked turning to look up at him.

Darcy shrugged and pulled out his red phone before dialling some number and holding it to his ear. While he listened to it ringing he turned and smirked at me, “Neil.”

I nodded with understanding now, he was going to get Neil come here and watch over Amberly which wasn’t such a bad idea because she will be able to catch up with him like she had said. When Darcy gave me the thumbs up I headed back inside to let Amberly know where me and Darcy were going and that Neil was coming around to hang with her. I never actually said it was for her protection but she’s not stupid, she was just excited about seeing her old friend again.

~~

“I’ve got this new girl and the moves she can do will blow your mind away!” Darcy grinned and I swear he started drooling a bit as he pictured it in his mind. I was driving his car and heading to Jenny’s address while he was loading bullets into cartridges in the passenger seat.

“Maybe she’s the one?” I shrugged as I slowed down to a stop for the red light and turned to smirk at him, “I'm going to love the day a girl will tame you.”

Darcy scoffed at that, “Hell will freeze over first, I was born a ladies’ man and I will die one.” Then he smirked at me, “Unless your offering?” and he winked cheekily.

Rolling my eyes and taking off again, “Not going to happen again De.”

“Uncle De, remember?”

“You pick one or the other; I’ll call you that stupid name if you stop hitting on me.”

“De it is then.” He grinned and I laughed quietly, shaking my head at him.

“You’ll never give up, will you?” I asked.

“Nah, I love flirting with you.”

“I'm sure Baden would love it too.” I mumbled, turning left like the GPS said too. Man how I love this invention.

“What he doesn’t know won’t kill him, besides; I don’t need to steal other guy’s women. I’ve got plenty of my own.” He smiled as he lifted his jean leg up and shoved a handheld gun down the side of his boot.

“Why I even got with you in the first place is beyond me.”

Darcy looked up at me again and grinned, “No one can resist my charms.” I shook my head at him and his phone suddenly rang, I noticed he pulled out his black one – business. “Hello?” he frowned, “No, I don’t know where Leila or Amberly are.” He grinned over at me and mouthed ‘Baden’.

“Why would you send them away in the first place?” he was smirking and such a bad liar but luckily Baden didn’t know him as well as I did. “Yeah, you’ve probably pissed them off so they have decided to do their own thing......seriously; I don’t know where they are.....I’m not lieing!...fuck you too! How the hell did you even get my number? I don’t hand it out to wankers!”

I smacked Darcy’s arm and glared at him to calm down because he was getting angry really quick and I didn’t want to have to deal with this right now. He looked over at me, I mouthed ‘hang up’ and he held a finger up to shush me.

“Whatever moron, not my fault you can’t keep track of them and you know what? If I did know where they are – I sure as hell wouldn’t tell you now!’ and then he hung up.

“You just had to, didn’t you De?” I mumbled with annoyance. Now Baden is out there somewhere in a foul mood and probably losing his crap, so who knows what he will do now.

“The wanker called me names!” Darcy cried out in his own defence.

Shaking my head at him, “What are you? A child? Names won’t do anything to you.”

“What about him? Are you going to tell him off too?”

“Yeah, I will when I see him next.”

Darcy quickly pulled his red phone out of his pocket and held it out for me, I glanced at it with a frown, “There’s no time like now girl.” He smirked.

Giving him a look of disbelief, did he really want me to ring Baden and tell him off right now? “Ahh De? I'm not using your phone to ring him.” He frowned slightly and I groaned, “I’ll ring him from mine after we deal with Jenny. Okay?”

This seemed to please him and the rest of the ride was filled with his annoying and sometimes downright disgusting stories of all his sexual encounters. I tried to crank the music up but he would turn it back down again. I tried to block him out but when he noticed this, his voice would get even louder and he would start imitating girls moaning his name.

Its official, Darcy is one sick puppy.

“Thank you!”  I cried as the house came into view and I parked on the opposite side of the road, glad to have Darcy finally shut up.

“Alright, so there’s one car in the driveway but that doesn’t mean shit.” Darcy muttered as he leaned across me to look out my window.

The house was a simple one storey but had thick bushes and trees all around it and along the side fences, just not the front.

“Back door?” I asked because if we walk through the front she will see us coming from a mile away.

“Good thinking ninety nine.” Darcy grinned and I rolled my eyes, “Alright, shove this down your pants.” And he thrust a small gun into my hands. Groaning I leant forward while he sat back into his seat and tucked it into the back of my jeans even though I had no intentions of using it.

Starting the car up again Darcy gave me a quizzical look, “I'm parking around the corner in case they seen us pull up here and are watching us.”

“And who said you were just a pretty face?” he smirked teasingly.

Groaning, “Its common sense douche bag.”

Walking back down the footpath with Darcy’s arm slung over my shoulder we passed as a couple just taking a walk. Trust me; this was all his idea, not mine. As we got closer to the house Darcy leaned in close to my face, “We’ll duck into these bushes right there.” And he subtly pointed at the thick bushes in Jenny’s yard, “But make it look like we’re getting it on.”

Frowning, “Huh?” but he didn’t give me anytime to finish asking what on earth he meant by that as he nuzzled his face into my cheek, I was about to push him away but he pushed us both into the bushes, making me land hard on my butt and glare over at him as he crouched down on the ground.

“Thanks Darcy, that was real necessary to push me.” I grunted, climbing to my feet but staying low and wiping my butt off.

We sat in silence for a few minutes just to see if anyone had noticed and was going to come out and say anything but no one did. Looks like the coast is clear right now. There was movement from one of the windows and I looked over to see Jenny standing there talking to someone we couldn’t see.

“Alright partner, new plan. I go in through the back with guns raised and blast any dick that looks my way and you go through the front door and talk to the girl.” Darcy sneered the word ‘talk’ because he wants to do more than that but I didn’t. Torturing people is not something I will ever do.

Turning to look at him with doubt, “Do you really think that is a good plan?” and I scrunched my face up at the big thick goggles he was suddenly wearing.

“I know it is.”

“What on earth are you wearing?” he looked stupid as but he obviously didn’t care.

“Heat sensor goggles, duh. I’m not just all good looks girl; I can get my hands on heaps of awesome gadgets.” Then he pushed the goggles to the top of his forehead, “Wanna have a pair?”

I thought about it for a moment, heat goggles would be pretty cool, “How much?”

He scoffed loudly like I had just insulted him, “I would never charge you for anything, you should know that.” Then he pulled the goggles back down slightly shaking his head at me while I smiled at him.

“You’re a good friend De and I love you for it.”

“I know.....you’re my friend too.” He smirked as he started moving along the bushes, “Oh, there’s only three others in there with her, and all three are at the back end of the house right now. So move your ass to the front door.”

Nodding as I watched him sneak away, crouching down low with a grin on his face I shook my head – he seriously was enjoying this way too much. He even had rolled up rope wrapped over his shoulder and I'm surprised he hadn’t worn camouflage or put black war paint on his face.

Moving through the bushes to the corner of the front of the house, I glanced around to see no one and quickly stepped out, brushing my shirt off as I casually walked towards the front door. Standing there I knocked on the door gently so the three out the back wouldn’t hear so clearly and plastered a fake smile on my face.

Moments later I heard footsteps and the door swung open revealing a shocked Jenny then her face turned aggressive.

“Hey bestie!” I greeted with over fake happiness that was clearly obvious, “Long time no see! So, how have you been? You know between being a hussy and helping kidnap my actual best friend?” I grinned as she stared at me between hatred and shock.

“What the hell are you doing here? How the hell did you find me?” she growled attempting to slam the front door shut but I stuck my foot out and shoved her backwards into the house and closed the door behind me.

“I have Gianni boys here.” She sneered, trying to threaten me and make me scared. I just smiled.

At that moment we heard something smash from the back end of the house and some shouting, the only shouting I could make out was ‘Darcy’s in the house!’ and I shook my head slightly at that. Jenny’s eyes were wide as she spun around to go run there but then gun fire sounded off, three quick shots and everything fell silent.

“I think those boys are useless to you now.” I smirked as I pushed her in the direction of the lounge room.

Darcy came walking in from some door, “That was over before it even started.” He complained then looked at Jenny and frowned.

“Jenny, meet another actual friend of mine.” I smirked because I was loving this.

“What do you want you bitch?” she sneered, turning to glare at me. I had to give her points for not showing how scared she really was but instead of answering her right away I pushed her again but towards the lounge.

Darcy quickly walked out again but I didn’t mind, then he walked back in dragging a kitchen chair behind him and taking the rope off from his shoulder, “Sit.” He commanded as he sat the chair on the ground near Jenny.

She looked at it with disgust, “You don’t reall-.” But I cut her off as I knocked the back of her knees and made her collapse onto the seat then held her shoulders down as Darcy started tying her up.

“Thought you weren’t going to torture her.” He commented with a casual tone like he was asking about the weather and Jenny gasped loudly.

“I'm not.” this calmed her down slightly and Darcy noticed as he looked her dead in the eyes, all playfulness gone right now, “Don’t think your off the hook, if you don’t answer her correctly I have no problem extracting the answers my way.”

Jenny’s face paled instantly and tears began to leak down her cheeks and I didn’t blame her, hell if I were in her position right now, I wouldn’t be too great either. Darcy is an extremely intimidating and scary person when he has his game face on. People are stupid when they think he’s all charms, jokes and grins and no real threat.

“W-what do y-you want t-to know?” Jenny stuttered, looking up at me with a stream of never ending tears running down her face and ruining her thickly applied mascara and eyeliner. She looked pathetic and I felt a pang of pity for her but she should have known what she was getting herself involved in.

“Where the hell are all your kids?” I suddenly asked, remembering Dougy told me she had a few of them running around but I'm yet to even see a photo of one.

Jenny looked shocked by my question and relieved, thinking that’s all I wanted to ask – she really is dumb. “They got taken away from me, government deemed me an unfit parent.” She whispered quietly but I heard her still.

“The government was right.” I replied with no emotion in my tone as I sat down on the edge of the wooden coffee table and faced her. “Right, down to business. I want to know everything you know.”

That look of relief vanished.

“I-I can’t, he’ll kill me.” She chocked out, her eyes wide with fear.

“Not my problem. You chose to bat for the wrong team, no one told you to get involved.”

“What about you? You’re involved, what if you were in my situation right now?” she demanded softly, trying to use some kind of pathetic reverse psychology on me.

Shaking my head, “Isn’t going to work Jen. I'm involved because my family is, you’re involved for who knows why and I can tell you right now – I wouldn’t have let you pass that front door.” I let it sink in for a moment, “Now, where is Paul?”

“Paul who?”

My hand flinched and I was so tempted to slap her across the face for messing with me right now. Narrowing my eyes I was tempted to anyway just for everything she has done and for helping take Amberly away from us. Jenny deserves a good punch to the face.

“Don’t mess with me!” I shouted furiously making her entire body flinch from my tone and she whimpered slightly.

“I don’t know! He took off!” she screamed back in panic.

“Not good enough.” I growled as I took a few calming breaths.

“I'm telling the truth Leila!”

“What do you know then?”

She opened her mouth but then closed it and Darcy pulled his gun out and held it to the side of her head making her let out a small scream, “Answer her questions!” he growled angrily and impatiently.

“Paul has a tracking device on Amberly’s phone!” she blurted which made me smile and laugh softly.

Darcy frowned at me and I pulled Amberly’s phone out of my pocket, “He’s following me not her.”

“What else?” Darcy growled shoving the tip of the gun harder into Jenny’s head.

“Oh God, I don’t want to die! Leila, I know you won’t let him kill me! You’re too good for that!” Jenny shrieked, desperately trying to avoid my questions.

Standing up I walked over to her quickly and bent down so we were at eye level, “I might not but he won’t hesitate. So don’t you dare think you are safe because I'm here.” I growled then walked back to the coffee table, “What are his plans with Johnson?”

She looked away and Darcy nudged her again, “Fine, I’ll co-operate. He plans on wiping your whole gang out and everyone associated with them.”

I scoffed at that idea, “He can try.” I mumbled then look up at her again, “What else?”

She pinched her lips together and pointedly looked away. I glanced up at Darcy, so she is refusing to say anymore. Darcy rolled his eyes and mouthed ‘females’  I shot him daggers and he smiled slightly then raised the gun and brought the handle down fast, hitting her in the side of her head. She screamed out in pain and started crying hysterically, a small trail of blood started to run down the side of her face.

Frowning at Darcy, did he really have to hit her that hard? He caught my look and shrugged.

It took Jenny about fifteen minutes to start to calm down and another ten before she fell silent while I impatiently waited for her to shut up. Her face was streaked with tears and a trail of blood and she was sniffling nonstop with her bottom lip quivering.

“What else?” I asked calmly.

She looked up and met my eyes, “You’re a monster compared to the girl I knew.”

Raising an eyebrow, I tried to not smile - that was funny coming from her, “What else do you know about Gianni?” I completely ignored her statement. Of course I have changed, who doesn’t in over four years?

“Will you let me go if I tell you the only big piece of information I know?” she asked quietly, sniffling still.

I nodded slowly, “If it’s actually good but if you have lied – my friend here will find you and trust me, you won’t like that.”

Her body stiffened and she stayed silent for a minute before letting out a slow deep breath, “I honestly don’t know where Paul is, he’s gone into hiding but I do know that the second level in the chain will be meeting up at Torrens Park on Tuesday night.”

Darcy met my eyes. This was good information but somehow, I didn’t feel like I knew everything just yet. Jenny is a sneaky soul and she knows more than she is letting on.

“What else?”

“I just told you all I know!” she screamed madly.

Shaking my head, “No, you didn’t. What else?”

Jenny sighed in defeat as she looked from me to Darcy and finally nodded at Darcy, “I know your brother is in deep shit right now.”

Darcy’s eyes narrowed and he back handed her across the face, sending Jenny and the chair flying to the ground before he stormed out pulling his red phone out of his pocket and dialling Neil. I spared one glance at Jenny then followed Darcy into the other room, shouting down the phone, “.....nothing then?.....look out the fucking windows!.......fine!......meet at home then, now.......ring me when you get there.” And he hung up and turned to me with a furious look on his face, “That bitch will pay for lying to me!” he growled and stormed past me.

Closing my eyes I didn’t want to think about what he was going to do to her but I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stop him. As close as I am with Darcy – nothing stops him from doing anything he wants to do. I could only hope he didn’t kill her.
