~ ~ Chapter Twenty Six ~ ~
Twenty Six. Twenty six males were killed tonight, I would have said men but some were barely out of high school and ready to kill us. Two died by me and twenty two by Baden. Honestly, I know he did that on purpose, he was hogging and I knew why. He didn't want me to be some cold hard killer for some reason but what he wants doesn't matter. The damage is already done, I have already killed and still - I feel no remorse over it.
We were about a block away from Phil and Dougy's place when he spoke to me again, he has finally calmed down and had been holding me the entire way, rubbing small soothing circles on the back of my hand with his thumb while he concentrated on the road and also, this time I wasn't fearing a crash.
"You can't tell anyone about Eddie Leila." Baden muttered in a steady voice but it was no longer filled with anger and didn't send my heart thumping wildly from fear of what he could do - not to me but other people.
"I already figured as much." I murmured with a small smile playing in the corner of my lips. I don't know why but it was obvious Eddie didn't want anyone knowing where he is; maybe the rundown dump of a house is evidence of that.
"Around the time I first met you, he sort of let himself out of prison. Don't ask me how he did it because I had no idea he was even planning it, let alone how he pulled it off." Baden smirked slightly as he shook his head in a playful way, shaking his dark hair into his eyes once more.
"I heard one reason as to why he was in there." My voice quiet and soft.
Baden raised an eyebrow and turned to look at me briefly before turning his attention back onto the road where it should belong, "Oh. It's probably true; he got put away for a few different reasons with a life sentence and no chance of parole."
Nodding slowly, it didn't matter to me what Eddie did or how he escaped, it was none of my business to start off with but I know one thing for sure - if Baden was to ever got locked up again, I'd be asking Eddie how he did it.
While we were on the subject of prison it made me think of Dougy again, I haven't given him much thought recently but I think I can be forgiven considering what has been happening around here but now that I am thinking about him, "I want to go visit Dougy tomorrow."
"No." Came Baden's blunt and instant reply.
Frowning as I turned my head to face him, he kept his eyes glued on the road, refusing to look at me, "Why?" it came out as a demand when I hadn't intended it too but I wasn't taking it back now.
"Because, I'm not letting you walk into a room full of criminals, they are bad people Leila." He sounded so serious, so strict and so hypocritical that I had to laugh. Big bad Baden who is a criminal for a living is telling me that I can't be around his own kind because they are bad people?
"Look, I love you, you know I do but you can't boss me around. Dougy is my brother and I will go see him if I want to."
We pulled into a small area full of large two story units with plenty of parking space. I noticed Caveman's car already under one of the carports and Phil's car was under the second one, and then off to the side of the house, under a big tree was Dougy's car with one of the plastic car covers over it.
I wonder if he would mind if I borrowed his car while he isn't using it? Smiling defiantly, I knew he would but it wasn't going to stop me once I find his keys. I might even be able to con Phil into finding them for me.
"I'll chain you to the bed if I have to." Baden grunted sourly, almost pouting from the driver's seat as he parked in behind Dougy's - I mean my car.
Rolling my eyes, I smiled at him, "And how many times exactly are you going to use that same threat against me before you actually do it?" adding a little suggestive wink on the end and he scowled at me.
"With a place full of people, yeah sure Leila, I'm sure your moans of pleasure won't have them running for the front door." He teased with a wicked smile as I smacked his shoulder, blushing badly from his comment.
"I would not moan." I mumbled hotly under my breath but he heard me. Unbuckling my seatbelt at the same time he did his own, Baden reached over with both hands and grabbed my waist, pulling me over to him and placing me on his lap.
Straddling my legs over his lap and facing him we just hugged one another for awhile, my head resting on his shoulder and the side of his face resting on the top of my head as we just enjoyed holding the love of our life. It felt good and safe to have him in my arms properly and I'm sure he felt the same way.
I don't know what would have happened tonight if everything went wrong and I don't even want to think about it either. But I do know this, if Baden ever died, I would want to die alongside him, holding him in my arms, taking my last breath with him and telling him how much I love him and how happy he makes me.
"I'm glad you're safe beautiful." Baden suddenly whispered, adding the sugar on top of my own thoughts as he pulled back and kissed the side of my face softly. Closing my eyes I felt the smile spread across my lips, "I'm glad you came back to me." I whispered.
~~
"Do neither of you know how to answer a freakin' phone? Seriously people! I have been going out of my damn mind wondering where the hell you went to! And you!" Phil suddenly pointed his finger at Baden as we sat side by side on the couch while Caveman had Amberly sitting on his lap in the single seater to the side of us, both watching us. Caveman looked amused while Amberly looked like she wanted to join Phil with the long ass lecture.
"I thought you took her on some stupid and reckless revenge mission! That you would be crazy and insane enough to put her life and safety in danger! You are just lucky she came back in one piece or you would be on the ground crying for your bloody mum right now!" Phil's face was red and his voice was loud and booming all around us but we took it.
Though I did almost laughed when he said the revenge mission part because we kind of had done something along those lines but he doesn't need to know that. I swear if he did find out, he would have major heart failure right now.
"Then you!" His finger was now pointed at me and Baden smirked, I pinched his leg inconspicuously so Phil wouldn't see, "My darling little sister! You were stupid enough to run after him, to get in his damn car when I told you not to! Does everything I say mean nothing to you? Dougy would have killed me if he was here! Not to mention what it would have done to me if something did happen to you! I can't believe the pair of you! Both as bad as each other!" he finally stopped to take some much needed breaths.
I took this silent break in time to stand to my feet, cross the carpet to where he stood and wrap my arms around his thick waist, hugging him tight, "Sorry Philly. It won't happen again." I smiled against his white shirt.
Phil's arms engulfed me back and lifted me up off the ground as he squeezed me tightly, "Your damn right girl because I'm not letting you out of my sight again." He muttered, "But you're still not forgiven." He just had to add that on quickly to the end, so childish.
Laughing quietly, he set me back down on my feet only to cup my face and turn me head both ways as he inspected me closely with narrow and suspicious eyes, "Sooo....what were you doing that couldn't answer your phone for?"
Smiling impishly, I glanced over at Baden who was covering up his own smile, I shot him daggers, he was so willing to let me die at the wrath of Phil, some lover you are Baden, I thought sarcastically to myself.
"Um...killing spree?" I suggested.
Baden cracked up laughing while Phil stared at me like I had lost my mind, Amberly shook her head disapprovingly and Caveman raised an eyebrow. Ha! Got them all with the truth because it sounded so farfetched, they didn't even believe me.
"Fine, don't tell me then."Phil slightly pouted as he let go off my face and walked off towards the kitchen which I could see from here.
"What?" Amberly suddenly shrieked, causing us all to flinch "Is that it? You're dropping it? No punishment what so ever? You're a bad bad parent Phil!" she was glaring at him as he turned around in confusion, glancing at me for help but I shook my head and smirked.
"Uh...I figured.....you....could finish them off." He grinned at the last part as my mouth dropped open; he so fed me to Amberly!
"Why the hell is everyone feeding me for?" I cried, throwing my hands up in the air a little dramatically, only to receive 'she's lost her mind' looks from everyone, "Um, yeah." I mumbled as I quickly sat down next to Baden who wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me in tight.
"I can't believe you actually told them what we did." He whispered, sounding amused.
Smiling, "I can't believe they didn't believe me."
He nodded with a soft chuckle, "Why do I feel like a naughty teenager who just got busted sneaking in late?"
Shrugging I looked over at Amberly, "I guess it has something to do with Mum." And I pointed at Amberly, "Dad." Pointing at Phil, "and step-dad?" I asked, pointing at Caveman, since he is with our 'mum'. Baden laughed as Amberly spun and glared at us.
"I can't believe you would worry me like that Lee-lee, after everything I have been through, only to have you go on walkabouts without answering your phone or messaging us to let us all know you were okay. Did you not think about how worried we all were?" she demanded softly with one hand on her hip and her eyes glued to mine.
Glancing away I caught sight of Caveman's amused face and smiled, "Yeah, 'cause Caveman looks real worried."
Amberly snapped her head in his direction so fast it must have caused her whip lash and his amused look dropped instantly as he shot me daggers under her penetrating glare, "Jeff!" she snapped like a scolding mum, "Were you worried or not?" she asked.
He nodded, "Definitely." He muttered quickly that I almost laughed but covered my mouth with my hand. Man, this is too funny. Tough caveman bowing down to little innocent Amberly.
"See? Jeff was worried along with the rest of us!" she half shouted, pacing back and forth in front of me. This lecture went on for about another twenty minutes before she finally gave up and hugged me tightly, smacked my arm and told me to never disappear on her again.
~~
Sitting out the front with a cup of hot coffee in my hands, I watched a few morning birds flying around in a nearby tree. Today was the day I was going to go visit Dougy. I rang the prison last night and asked when the visiting days and times were and they informed that today was one of the days at ten am.
I was all dressed and ready to go, just needed to hunt around quietly for Dougy's car keys so I could leave before Baden woke up and tried to stop me. He really was against the idea of me going in there and it was annoying, I had to visit Dougy and see for myself that he was okay and not being treated badly in there. It would make me feel a whole lot better.
The sound of the door opening up behind me and someone stepping out had me spinning around in my spot, ready to argue my point if Baden tried to stop me but it wasn't him. I smiled slightly up at Caveman before turning back around.
He walked up to my side and stood there for a moment in silence, staring at who knows what before he spoke, "You want a ride?" his gruff voice asked.
Frowning as I looked up at him, "Huh?"
He shook his head slightly, "To the prison? I'm going there now to see my cousin." He muttered briskly, not looking down at me.
Was he for real? "You do know I'm going against Baden's wishes, right?" Maybe he didn't get that memo, because why else would he be offering me a lift?
Caveman nodded, "I know." And he actually smiled a true genuine smile, "It's why I'm offering you a lift."
I couldn't help it, I had to laugh, "Ooooh Caveman is going to be in trouble." I teased as I stood to my feet, quickly ducking inside to put my empty cup on the kitchen sink before rushing back out the front with my wallet.
Caveman was already in his car, engine idling quietly as I climbed into the passenger seat. He didn't even wait for me to buckle in before pulling out and driving out the area onto the road, "So, does Ambo know where you're going?" I asked casually.
He shook his head, "Nope, she is still on edge about everything." I noticed his knuckles turning a shade of white as he gripped the steering wheel tighter.
"She's safe now." I whispered softly but loud enough for him to hear me, "Paul will never touch her again, I will kill him before he gets the chance." My mind ran wild with all the possible ways of ending that horrible person's life. How could he do such mean things to Amberly? She didn't deserve any of this.
"Not if I beat you to it." Caveman muttered quietly. I smiled to myself, despite the fact I still think he reminds me of a serial killer, we both have the best intentions for Amberly and her safety on our minds.
Most of the drive was spent in a comfortable silence, which is something I would never have ever dreamed about considering who I was in the car with. It's not that he is a bad person - well, technically he is but you get what I mean, it's just, we have never really spent much time together or had many conversations except for in group form.
"Baden told me what you two got up to last night." Caveman suddenly spoke up with a carefree tone but my head snapped in his direction out of shock. Baden told him? Why?
"Umm, okay?" I mumbled, not knowing what else to say about that.
Caveman smirked, "You're turning into a real bad ass Leila and personally, I think Phil would have relished in that fact if it weren't for him taking his 'big brother' role so damn serious because we all know if Dougy was here, Phil would have been patting you on the back while Dougy would have been the one going off his head."
Laughing, I had to agree. Phil was proud of me with the whole drive by and me defending myself but I think it was because only him and Max were there - thinking of Max, I wonder if his leg is okay and where he is?
"Just don't tell Dougy." I muttered.
"I won't."
Pulling into the car park we climbed out of the car and followed the wide concrete footpath through the grass and small flower beds but my eyes were glued to the massively tall wire fence with barbed wire at the top and big electronic gates, tall towers in the corners of the outside yard and beyond that, a large grey brick building.
Before we got to go in we had to go to the small waiting area where we checked in and received a visitor's badge, showed our ID's and signed some paperwork. I didn't bother reading it knowing I would have sighed regardless just to see my brother.
There was a lady in the corner with three little kids, trying to keep them all under control and quiet but failing miserably. A few other individuals sat around on the benches or stood by the window staring out at practically nothing.
One wall was lined with locker for you to put all your personal items into, Caveman hired one - yes, we had to pay ten dollars to use one! Bloody rip off if you ask me, just another way for them to make a quick buck.
Finally after fifteen minutes of waiting, two security guards walked in from a short hallway. One stood right next to a metal detector with a handheld detector in his hands while the other stood further down the hall, waiting by the door we would be led through.
We could only be led in at six at a time and Caveman being the big scary looking guy he is, made sure we were in the first group and pushed people out of the way while I followed right behind him. We both got through the first security guard and his detectors with no problems. A man behind us had to remove his belt due to the buckle and then finally the first six were ready to go.
We were told to stand in a line in the next room, about a metre apart from each other with four guards standing around. One held the lead of a cream coloured Labrador - a sniffer dog. I rolled my eyes and smiled slightly at Caveman; he shook his head and looked away.
All of us were free to go on to the next room now, which is the room I have been waiting all this time for. Caveman stood in front of me and he seemed to be standing in a slight protective stance as the guard opened the door up and led us through to the big wide open room scattered with tons of plastic tables, each had plastic chairs sitting around them and about twenty heads all looked up in our direction.
My stomach was twisting with nerves, they all looked the same in blue buttoned up long sleeved shirts and blue pants and white sneakers. Some guys were massive looking and covered in tattoos, others looked plain out of place here and then I spotted him; my brother who happened to look right at home here with his grin for me.
"I'll come get you at leaving time." Caveman muttered beside me.
Looking up at him, I smiled, "Thanks for this." He nodded but said nothing more and I could already feel tears pricking at my eyes but I blinked them back as I weaved through the tables to Dougy who was sitting right at the back on the other side of the room. I made sure to avoid tables that were occupied though.
"Lee." Dougy smiled as he stood up and wrapped his arms around me tightly, lifting me off the ground slightly.
"No standing!" a loud voice bellowed out, making me flinch slightly. Dougy released me and sat down slowly, waving off the glaring guard, "Yeah, yeah just giving her a hug." He mumbled.
Pulling out the chair alongside him, I quickly sat down and scanned his face, it didn't look any different, his arms were exposed because trust my brother to be one of the few convicts to have their sleeves folded up, his arms also looked unharmed.
"How are they treating you in here? Are you eating properly, are people being mean? No-one's stabbed you, have they?" I would have kept firing questions at him but Dougy started laughing at me, causing a few others to glance our way.
Scowling at him, he leaned back in his seat and folded his arms over his chest, "Nah, sis', it's not that bad in here." He smirked.
"Speak for yourself Dougy." Someone suddenly butted in from two tables over, I glanced over and seen a tall skinny dude with a shaved head glaring at Dougy, he had some guy visiting him who also happened to look not so friendly.
"Shut your mouth Peters before I shut it for you." Dougy snapped harshly, sending shivers through my body. He can be so cruel sounding at times.
The other guy retaliated with some comeback but I had looked away, scanning the other tables to see Caveman sitting casually in a seat on the other side of the room with a huge muscled guy, tattoos covering both his arms and they both didn't even seem to be talking to one another, just staring off in different directions. But the more I watched them; I could see tiny movements of their lips.
Caveman suddenly looked my way and I smiled sheepishly, busted for watching him. The corner of his lips pulled up and he held up one hand then made a 'turning around' motion and pointed at Dougy. His cousin turned and looked at me, a smirk spread across his face before he said something but Caveman shook his head.
"How is everyone holding up?" Dougy asked as I turned back around.
Smiling, "Best we all can."
"Ah, missed me too much hey?" He smirked but I could see he had a double meaning to his words.
"Yeah, we missed you." I spoke slowly, wondering if we actually were talking about the same thing or if I'm just losing my mind and having the repercussions Baden warned me about over taking lives. I hope not. I don't want to go crazy.
"How's our sister holding up?" Dougy asked, watching my face intently.
Smiling slightly, I know knew he had found out about her being kidnapped, "She's a little on edge but doing well otherwise."
He nodded slowly again, "I heard you guys should be going to the Holton Game in Port in three days."
Frowning I had no idea what the hell he was on about now, he winked at me then pointed subtly over to Caveman before changing topic, "How's Philly boy? Being dramatic as usual?"
Laughing, I nodded, "You have no idea." I muttered; shaking my head at the memory of last night's lecture.
"I heard B was busy last night with a certain girl I know." Dougy leaned forward in his seat, resting his arms on his knees as he narrowed his eyes at me.
"Um." I mumbled, leaning away from him quickly, "I don't know what you're on about." I muttered. How the hell did he know? He is in prison for crying out loud!
"Yeah, you could imagine my response when I found out." He continued, then paused for a moment, "Makes me wonder what has been going on since I got locked up and makes me second guess a relationship I had stupidly approved of since he is going to put her in such shitty situations." He growled the last part angrily.
Gulping, I looked away at a window but couldn't see much apart from a few trees and wire fencing, "Maybe she put herself in the situation?" I whispered softly, looking back at him in time to see his anger turn to fury before closing his eyes and taking a few deep calming breaths.
"I swear I am going to kick her stupid ass when I get out of here, she should not be getting involved like that. I know she is strong enough mentally to handle it but still, I don't like the idea of it, what brother would?" he opened his eyes back up and stared at me with slight sadness and worry in them.
A single tear managed to escape my eye as I leaned over and hugged him tightly, Dougy hugging me back, "Don't worry about her, she is fine. He will never let anything happen." Then I smiled, "Besides Phil told him if anything did happen, he would have beaten him so badly he would have been crying for his mummy." I chuckled at Phil's serious face when he said that.
It did the trick. Dougy pulled back and stared at me for a brief moment before bursting into loud laughter, "Oh man, so wish I was there for that one!" he chuckled, calming down.
"Yeah, it was pretty funny, oh and he doesn't know anything." I mused, "By the way....can I, um, borrow.....your car fo-."
"Hells no!" Dougy half shouted instantly, "You are not to touch me car - I don't want my baby scratched to the shit house!"
Pinching my lips I glared at him, "I would not! It will only be until you get out."
"No. N-O, spells, no."
"C'mon Dougy!"
"Nope." He shook his head, determined to not change his mind.
"I'll love you forever." I used my innocent voice.
"Pfft, you already will regardless."
"No I won't, not unless you let me borrow it. C'mon Dougy, I need a car." I practically begged just to get nowhere.
Dougy shook his head again, "I will know if you have driven it too. So don't try it." He looked serious.
"Whatever." Pouting I leaned back in my chair with my arms folded over, "It's not like you can stop me anyway." A small smirk appeared on my face.
Dougy glared at me, whipped around instantly, "Jeff!" he shouted out, causing Caveman and his cousin to glance up, "If she touches my car I'm holding you responsible!"
My mouth dropped and Caveman smirked, I glared at Dougy, "What? You can't do that! He will be so mean about it now!"
Dougy turned and smirked triumphantly at me, "So be it then."
After awhile I gave up on the car, it was obvious he wasn't backing down and changing his stubborn mind about it. Though, I did convince him he has to buy me one when he gets out and he told me where he has a bank card hidden in his room with plenty of money in it for me to just go and by one, so then I had to convince him I was only joking but he pushed on the fact and made me eventually promise that if I ever needed money for anything - to take his card and use it.
Finally, the subject got changed but it was one I had heard plenty of times.
"So, quit yet?" he smirked.
Shaking my head slowly at his relentless attitude towards my job, "No but I might not even have a job there anyway. I haven't exactly been in for awhile now."
Dougy nodded, "Yeah, probably a good thing anyway, you don't really need certain wankers knowing where you work regularly. Makes you an easy target." He muttered casually.
My mouth fell open a little bit, I had never thought about it in that way but it does make perfect sense. And since all of the boys have stopped hanging around for every shift and making a nuisance of themselves, they wouldn't know if anything were to happen. I'd be like a sitting - well, dancing, duck if someone was to find out where I worked.
"Even if I did quit, my money is only going to last me so long. It's not enough to live off for the rest of my life." I sighed heavily, leaning back in my seat and staring up at the ceiling, now wondering what I was going to do for cash.
"Lee." Dougy spoke in bothered tone, "I've already told you that I would take care of you financially, I have more money than I know what to do with.
"Yeah, yeah, I heard you the first ten thousand times but it still doesn't mean I want to have my brother support me my entire life." I grumbled, annoyed he can't get that.
"Just shut up and quit." He argued back, glaring playfully at me but with a hint of seriousness behind it.
Glaring back for a moment, I decided to change topic, "Nice porno collection under your mattress." I muttered with a smirk.
Dougy grinned, "Did you check out the summer issue? Hot as babes in there." He winked.
Scrunching my face up in disgust, "Hell no. I even changed the sheets on your bed last night because I refused to sleep on them. Who knows what dirty tramps you've had in there?"
"I'll have you know I don't sleep with dirty tramps.....I pay big bucks for my women." He laughed at the end, smirking at me.
Groaning I rolled my eyes, "Disgusting bro'."
"Yeah, well, you can keep your sex life a secret from me still - I don't need the goss." He muttered, scrunching his face up the way I had just done moments ago.
Laughing quietly, "I wasn't planning on telling you even if you asked."
Dougy chuckled before glancing around, his eyes landing on the giant clock above the door I had come in through, "Times almost up little sister." He smiled sadly; I did too and felt fresh tears pricking at my eyes. I didn't want to leave him just yet; being here right now has reminded me just how much I have missed him being around.
"I really miss you Dougy." I mumbled, blinking my eyes to lose the tear build up. I didn't want to cry in prison.
"I'll be out soon enough and then you will be wishing I was back in here." He smirked, trying to lighten my mood. I did laugh but it was forced and not full of joy, "C'mon Lee, no tears okay? It's not that bad in here, I'm actually enjoying myself, caught up with a few old boys, free feed every day, oh and I have been working out." He grinned at the last part while I rolled my eyes.
Honestly, he didn't need to work out but I guess he doesn't have much else to do in here, "Do you think there is a just you will get out sooner?" I asked hopefully but trying to not build that hope up too much.
Dougy nodded very slowly, "Maybe but until I am back with you and able to kick your stupid ass - cut out your behaviour changes. Even though I'm in here, I still know what is going on out there and I'm warning you, keep the shit up and you'll regret it when I'm free." He warned in a serious tone.
I smiled slightly, "Okay."
"Okay? Aren't you even going to argue me on this one?" he asked eyes narrow with suspicion.
Shaking my head softly, "No because your right. This isn't me, I've changed, I know I have and if I'm honest with myself, it is a little scary but I can't undo what I've done but if something happens again and it's a me or them situation, don't think I will hesitate to take them down."
He smiled back at me, "Just what every big brother wants to here." He rolled his eyes at me but then suddenly turned serious, "But I'm glad you're capable of defending yourself, just in case one of the boys aren't there one day to do it for you, I still don't like it but I can't change it."
Suddenly a small alarm rang out, making me jump even though it wasn't that loud, turning to look around I noticed everyone was saying goodbye to each other, some people hugging tightly and kids jumping all over their dad.
"If you decide to visit again, don't come alone." Dougy muttered as he grabbed my hand and pulled me over to his lap, hugging me tightly since he still wasn't allowed to stand up yet.
Hugging him back I smiled, "B kind of told me I couldn't come in the first place, so I guess we will have to see how things pan out with him first."
Dougy chuckled, "Why does that not surprise me? That boy can be such a hypocrite at times."
"I know, right!" I laughed as Caveman walked up behind us. I got to my feet as he and Dougy said their hello's and exchanged a few quick words then we had to go. "Love you Dougy."
"Love you Lee." He smiled softly then I turned around and followed Caveman out of the visiting room and back through the areas we had come. It was a lot quicker this time as we didn't have to wait in groups of six or worry about the sniffer dog but we did walk through the detectors which didn't make a single beep.
Once we had emptied out our hired locker, we headed out for the car in silence; I waited until we were in the car before repeating the strange sentence Dougy had spoken to me and indicated for to tell Caveman once we were in private.
"Caveman." I muttered softly, he shook his head lightly at me and I smiled before continuing, "Dougy said he heard we were going to the Holton Game in Port in three days."
He simply nodded but said nothing, I seen recognition in his eyes and waited for him to enlighten me on this secret coded message I had just passed along with no idea what it actually means, "Are you going to tell me?" I asked, frowning.
Caveman sighed loudly, "It means he knows were Paul's right hand man is going to be in three days time and means we will be there to grab him."
