Weird Things are Happening
By the time I actually wake up it's dark outside. I sit up on the couch and glare at everything. There's noise coming from upstairs, and I walk up a set of dark wooden stairs towards it. It doesn't take long to find the room it's coming from. The door is open and I look around, but don't see anyone. I figure that the shower is running and that Trevor must be taking one. I look around and find my bed in one of the corners. His room is huge, and by huge, I mean it looks to be the size of a public library. I spin around a couple times and take it all in. There are two walls covered in books, another is covered in guns, and then there's a wall with a few pictures scattered on it. Curiosity gets the best of me and I walk over to one of the pictures. It looks like Trevor, and maybe his father. They seem to be very happy, and I smile a little. There's another picture of two kids, Trevor and some other little boy I guess. One has his arm around the other and they both have very wide grins on their faces.
"That's Cutter." I hear Trevor speak behind me and turn to look at him. He's dressed in only a towel and I immediately look away from him.
"Put on some clothes!" I yell. Trevor chuckles, but doesn't move.
"You seem scared. What if I just let my towel drop? How scared would you be then?" I make a noise that can only be described as a growl and he laughs again. "Give me a minute and I'll be dressed." I look at the pictures while I listen to him move around. "I'm fully clothed. You can look now."
I turn and cross my arms. He's wearing a pair of basketball shorts and a tank. "You look like you're about to go work out."
He looks himself over. "Since you're sleeping in here now, I can't just sleep naked, now can I?" His eyes meet mine, and I almost think it's an actual question.
"Whatever." I say to him. He smirks and I walk over to my bed. I'm still wearing everyday clothes, but I don't have pajamas, so screw it.
He throws something at me and I turn to scowl at him. "It's a shirt. Something for you to sleep in until we can get you something else." I look down at the ground and see a t-shirt laying in front of me. I bend over to grab it and hold it up to my body. I let out a sigh of relief. It goes down to just above my knees, so I should be alright.
"Thank you, Trevor." He nods and lays down on his bed.
I walk into one of the doors and thank goodness it's the bathroom because I would have been extremely embarrassed if it wasn't. I pull off my clothes, and look at the lines made in my skin from sleeping in them. I try to avoid looking at the bruises and scars, but it's nearly impossible. His shirt smells like a cologne I don't know the name of, but it isn't a terrible smell. When I walk back out, Trevor is already under his blankets and snoring softly. I decide that I might as well do the same since there is no reason not to. As I walk across the room, his breathing stays normal.
I reach the end of his bed and he mumbles something. I stay to try and hear him, and he does it again. "Alice, don't do that." It's a soft mumble, but I still hear it.
He's dreaming of me? But why? I watch him sleep for a minute, but nothing else comes out of him. Deciding that, if he woke up and saw me staring at him, I'd probably pass out and die, so I go to bed.
********
I wake up the next morning and he isn't in the room. Instead of waiting for him to appear, I walk down the stairs and towards what I think is the kitchen. My stomach growls in anticipation as I find it. I dig through his cupboards and find some cereal, then I go into his fridge and grab the milk. Without wasting time, I find a bowl and make a bowl of cereal. Once I'm finished I put away the cereal and milk, then sit at the table to eat. There's a door on the wall opposite of me, and once I finish eating I go open it. There's a set of stairs leading down, so I follow them. The closer I get to the bottom, the more I hear a series of grunts. My imagination gets the better of me as I think of what he could possibly be doing. I reach the floor and see what it is he is actually doing. Across the room, Trevor is beating a punching bag with a set of gloves on. He hasn't seen me yet, so I walk towards him.
"What did that bag ever do to you?" I cross my arms as I stand behind him. He turns around so quickly that I think I got whiplash from it.
"How did you get down here?" I look over to the stairs.
"Um, I walked? It isn't that big of a house." I stare at him and he looks me over.
"Why are you still wearing my shirt? Is it comfortable?" He smirks at me, and this time it's his turn to cross his arms.
I look down at myself and notice that I'm still walking around in his shirt. "I guess so, considering I forgot I was even wearing it." I look back up at him and his smirk is gone. "What?"
He clears his throat and breaks eye contact. "Nothing. Get back upstairs. I'll finish up down here and then I'll make you something to eat."
"I made myself a bowl of cereal before I came down, so you don't have to."
"Just making yourself right at home, aren't you Alice." He takes off the gloves and puts them on a shelf. "Cereal isn't a meal. It's barely a snack. I'll make you real food in a minute." He turns towards me and my eyes zero in on his bare chest. I hadn't noticed that he wasn't wearing a shirt, and that he only had on a thin zip-up hoodie and a pair of sweats. "Come on. Let's go." I look back up to his face to see him smirking at me yet again. I roll my eyes and turn to walk back up the stairs. "Yeah, walk in front of me. Cause that won't hurt your pride any more than it already is."
"You're right, it won't." I say as I sway my hips. Behind me, Trevor makes a sort of growling sound. I laugh a little to myself and smile the entire way up. when I reach the top stair, his hand comes around me and grabs the doorknob.
His mouth comes up to my ear and I feel his breath on my shoulder "Don't tease." Before I can say anything, he opens the door and urges me forward. "So breakfast. Do you want fried or scrambled eggs?" He reaches down and grabs a pan to place on the stove. I watch as Trevor moves around the kitchen grabbing random things including eggs, bacon, and cheese. "Well?" He asks staring at me.
I mentally slap myself and answer him. "Scrambled is fine." He nods his head and begins whisking eggs together. I watch him cook, and a few minutes later he slides a plate in front of me with bacon, eggs, and cheesy toast on it. "This looks good." I say as I pick up the fork off of the plate.
"It tastes even better." He says as he puts his plate beside mine and sits. We eat in silence and it actually is good, I have to give him that much. Once we're finished, he grabs both plates and places them in the sink. "Now to the rules, since you were asleep when I got here." I nod my head and he leans against the counter, looking at me. "Under no circumstances do you step foot out of this house, unless I am with you. There is no one up here guarding this house." I nod and he goes on. "You do not disturb me in my office, unless I have told you to beforehand." I nod again, and Trevor looks me over. "You are not to speak to anyone that comes into this house. I have meetings here, and anyone here is not someone you need to converse with."
"What if they start a conversation with me?" I ask aloud.
"Then you act mute and leave." I raise an eyebrow at him and he holds my stare. "You will do as I say Alice." The look in his eyes reminds me of who he is and I let out a sigh and nod. "Very good. Last, but not least, you will not leave our room without being properly dressed. The last thing I need is someone thinking that I screwed around with some girl and have rumors flung around about me." I nod once more and he pushes himself off of the counter. Trevor walks over to me and stands directly in front of me, the table being the only thing between us. "And one more thing." His hand comes towards my face and he grabs my chin. "Tease me again, and you'll have bigger problems than following my rules." His voice is deep and hard, which causes a shiver to go up my spine. He leaves without a nod and I follow him with my eyes.
"What the hell was that?" I feel my jaw with my own hand and look back to where he just walked out. He doesn't come back in, so I get off of my seat. The walk back up to his room is tense, for me anyways. I open the door and walk in. On my bed is a set of clothes I know hadn't been there earlier. The sound of the shower running comes from the bathroom, so I quickly change. As soon as I'm dressed, I walk out just as fast. I relax my pace and think of his hand on my face. It was so firm, yet I know he was being gentle. My hand finds my chin again and I rub it. "What is happening to me?"
