Trevor is Squeamish

(A/N Another long chapter for my night, this is what happens when you can't sleep, at all. Enjoy the extra update! :))

There's a knock at the bedroom door and Trevor calls them in. The doctor walks in and stops at the door. "Did I interrupt something?" He asks suspiciously.

"No, she's complaining about being cold, so I'm trying to keep her warm." Trevor says as he looks up at the doctor. His hands continue to rub along my back as he talks.

"Ah, well let me take her temperature." Dr. Kirsh walks up to the bed and holds a thermometer in front of my mouth. "Place this under your tongue please." I open my mouth and it pokes the underside of my tongue. He watches the numbers on a separate screen until it beeps. "Well, I'd say that's evident of an infection. May I?" He asks Trevor as he gestures towards my side. Trevor lifts his arm off of my back and gently pulls the blanket off of me. I hiss as the cold air touches my skin.

"I know, it's okay, the doctor needs to look though." I nod against Trevor's chest as he holds my head against him.

"I'm going to press around the wound. I want you to tell me if anything hurts." I nod my head and he pulls on a pair of rubber gloves. He presses gently on the skin around it, and slowly works his way inwards. He hits a sensitive spot and I growl out at him. "I'm sorry." He lowers his glasses to look at the wound closer. "Well, I don't think this is something I can deal with while she's laying in a bed Trevor. She needs to go to a hospital so I can pinpoint the infection and get rid of it safely."

Trevor looks down at me, then up at him. "Can you at least give her something now to lower this fever?"

Dr. Kirsh walks over to his bag and digs through it. "I have something, but it won't last long. She needs to go to the hospital, tonight." Trevor nods at him.

"Just give her whatever it is and I'll take her." Trevor looks down at me, obviously worried. "I'm going to go call James. Dr. Kirsh will be right here, okay?"

"Okay." I say weakly.

"Take care of her doc. I'll be right outside." Trevor grabs his phone and walks out the door.

"Alright Alice, this is an injection. It will lower your white blood count, which will also decrease your fever, and maybe give you some relief." I nod my head at him, and he rubs an alcohol wipe on my arm. "He seems to care a lot for you."

"Trevor?" I ask as I watch him find a blood vein.

"Yes. He's letting you stay in his house. You're sick, and you're in his bed. He seemed reluctant to leave your side." He pierces my skin with the needle and I watch him gently slide the injector down. "Trevor barely shows that much affection towards his members, let alone a girl he only just met."

I turn my head away and look to the door. "Nah, we're just friends."

"Whatever you say." Dr. Kirsh stands back up after he takes the needle out of my arm. "Well, that should bring down your temperature long enough for him to get you to the hospital."

I'm riding the fever rollercoaster. My body is now heating up and anything touching me is too hot to bare. Trevor comes in a minute later to see me sprawled out on the bed. He tries to cover me up, but I keep him from it. "I'm hot now."

He sighs and stands back up. "Alright, well I was going to say let me carry you down, but you probably don't want me to touch you now." I open my eyes and look at him weakly.

"I don't think I can even walk right now." He looks at me, then he turns to Dr. Kirsh.

"I'm having James drive us to the hospital. Have a room ready for us when we get there." Dr. Kirsh nods his head and walks out of the room. I hear his footsteps recede down the hallway. "Alright, grab ahold of my neck baby." His arms slide under my body and I wrap my arms around his neck. I try to help him by pulling myself up into his arms, but I'm really too weak to make any difference. "Do you want to put on a pair of shorts? We are going to a hospital and all you're wearing is my shirt and a pair of panties."

"Just grab a pair. I'm too hot to wear them right now." He walks over to my dresser, still holding me. He lets go with one arm to dig through one of my drawers. A few seconds later he comes out with a pair of white jean shorts. He gives them to me, then places his arm back beneath my knees.

Trevor doesn't really pause to open the door, and instead just shoves it open. It must not have been closed properly in the first place. We get down to the front door and I see James standing at a car, waiting for us. "Jesus, why isn't she wearing clothes?" He says as James sits with me in the backseat.

"Shut up and turn on the air." Trevor says as he helps me buckle myself in.

"Yes sir." James turns the air on full blast and peels out the driveway.

"James, drive responsibly. We don't need her dead on the side of the road." Trevor is watching over me, waiting for me to say anything that he can do to help. Just to give him something to do, I ask for water. He digs in the back of what I now know is the SUV. "Here babe." He unscrews the cap and hands me the bottle.

"Babe? Wait, am I missing something?" James asks as he looks through the rearview mirror.

"Shut up James." Trevor says yet again.

James eyes us suspiciously through the mirror, but doesn't say another word. "Thank you." I say once the bottle is empty. Trevor takes it from me and screws the cap back on it. I hear cop sirens and notice the blue lights flashing in the mirror. "Are we getting pulled over?" I ask James.

"Nope. That is our police escort." He says as he lets one get in front of him. "And I have my own lights too."

James flicks a switch and the road is filled with blue lights. I turn to look at Trevor and he shrugs. "James is a cop." He says nonchalantly.

I look up at James and I can't help but stare open mouthed. "How on Earth did you get them to escort you?" I ask him.

"I told them that Trevor has a girl that needs to get to the hospital as soon as possible, and they said okay." I tear my eyes from him to look at Trevor.

"I don't understand. How are you and the cops buddy buddy?" Trevor shakes his head at me.

"That's a story for another time. For now let's get you to the hospital." I pout, but it doesn't last long because I begin to get cold again. I reach out for Trevor and he wraps his arms around me as if it's completely normal to do in public. "Turn off the air James."

"Yes sir."

***

Trevor carries me into the hospital and past the emergency desk. "Sir, you can't go back there with her until we process her." One of the ladies at the desk says to him.

"I will go through. Dr. Kirsh came not too long ago to set up a room for her. Now, let me in, or talk to my police escort." Trevor nods his head towards the men walking in with James. All of them are flashing their badges on their belts, along with wearing their uniforms.

The lady looks at the men, then back at Trevor. "I guess if Dr. Kirsh has already seen the patient..." She pauses with her hand over the button.

"Patty, let them in." Dr. Kirsh appears behind her. "I was called into a house call tonight for this girl, and she has a fever along with a severe infection. I need to prep her for surgery and get her set up to go into a room, asap. I already have the ER room for her." He nods to Trevor and presses the button. "Trevor, Room 15. I'll be there in a minute."

Trevor barges through the door and down the hallways. He spots Room 15 and walks into it. "Here you go." He says as he places me on the sanitary bed. "Not the most comfortable thing on the planet, but it will do for now." I reach out for him and he climbs on it with me. "We can't both fit." I climb onto his chest and he chuckles. "Alright baby."

"Well Trevor, what's this?" The group of cops walks in and smile at the sight of Trevor and I. "Did I hear you call her baby, or are my ears failing me?" One of them asks his companions.

"He called her babe on the way here." James says, smirking at us. "I told you he had a girl on the ropes." He leans against the wall and crosses his arms.

Trevor looks down at me with a chuckle on his lips. "Well I guess we failed at keeping that to ourselves, huh?"

I snuggle into him and he looks up. "Can one of you go get her a blanket? There's only so much I can do here." One of the cops walks out and the others watch us. "Go ahead, make fun." He jests at the cops.

"She a pretty one." One of them says. "She seems to be very attached to you."

James interjects. "How long has this been going on? That way I can know how long you've been lying to me."

Trevor rolls his eyes. "It literally happened tonight, so you can go ahead and tuck away the arrogant attitude."

"How long have you wanted it to happen?" Another of the cops asks.

Trevor glances down at me, but he doesn't get the chance to answer because Dr. Kirsh comes in. "Excuse me. Pardon me. Doctor coming through here." He reaches the bed and looks around him. "You know, you're only allowed two visitors."

"Try and make us leave doc." James says, still propped against the wall.

Dr. Kirsh sighs. "Alright, at least stay out of the way." He looks at Trevor and I. "I'm sorry Trevor, but I need you to get off." Trevor moves slowly, and leaves me so I'm on my back. "Alright Alice, I'm going to numb up your side. If you men could move to the sides of the room, my nurse needs to be able to get through." They all back up to the sides and a woman comes in pushing a tray with a bunch of different needles on it. "Trevor, if you want, you can come hold her hand, on the other side of the bed of course." Trevor moves to grab my hand, and he watches as Dr.Kirsh begins. "If you could roll onto the other side of your body, wound up." I slowly turn, and Trevor helps me. "This is the numbing injection, I'll be doing about six of these, so it will take a while. After about the third, you shouldn't even feel them." I nod my head and feel the pinch in my side. Trevor looks down at me and smiles for reassurance. A few minutes later, and he lays the last needle back on the table. "Now, I hate to say this, but I need to reopen your stitches. You'll have to let it heal again, and hopefully this time it will heal the right way. You men need to leave now. Trevor can stay, but I can't have this many people in a room I am operating in." The cops all file out and Dr. Kirsh sighs. "I was beginning to worry they would never leave. Now you'll have a steady handed doctor working on you." I hear him say he's removing the stitches, but I can't feel anything. "Everything is going well Alice." I hear the clink of the seventh and last stitch hit the tray as he says that. There's a foreign pushing feeling on my side, and Trevor notices my discomfort.

"Does it hurt?" He asks, rubbing my hand.

"No." I say to him. "It just feels odd."

Dr. Kirsh tells me every now and then that things are going well. It isn't until I see Trevor cringe that I know things are getting bad. "I just hit the infection. I'm going to have to clean it out. You may feel discomfort again, just know it isn't a problem." I nod my head and I feel the strange pulling again.

Trevor decides just to look at my face and I smile up at him. "Too scary for the big bad Bane?" He rolls his eyes, but I notice that he still won't look at it. "How's it look?" I ask him.

Trevor glances at it and makes sure to look right back at me. "It looks, uh, a little brown, and there is a lot of pus, but it seems to be better than it was before." He looks again, and I can tell he's almost ready to barf.

"It's okay, you don't have to look Trevor." His eyes immediately leave my side and instead look to my face.

"How are you feeling? Are you too hot? Too cold? Do you need water? Anything?" He's trying to distract himself from whatever is happening to my side.

"I could use a water." I say.

"No liquids." Dr. Kirsh says as he continues to cut away at my flesh. "Or food. I'm operating."

Trevor groans and I squeeze his hand. "Go sit out there with the others. I'm obviously in good hands."

"No, I can't just leave you to have surgery by yourself. That isn't what a boyfriend should do."

I tilt my head to look up at him. "Boyfriend?" I ask aloud.

His head slowly turns to look at me, fear laced through his eyes. "Um, I mean like a guy that's your friend."

"Are you sure that's what you meant?" I ask. If I could cross my arms right now, they would so be crossed.

"Yes?" I raise an eyebrow and he clears his throat. "How much longer doc?"

"Shouldn't be too long now, but I can't get you out of what you just said kid." Trevor rubs the back of his neck.

"It's hot in here. Anyone else think it's hot? I'll go ask them if they can bring a fan in here." He goes to leave, but my hand is still firmly wrapped around his. "Why couldn't you have put her to sleep?"

"You were very specific that this needed to happen as soon as possible. Putting her to sleep would have taken at least an hour or so. This is the safest, and quickest way to do it." Dr.Kirsh keeps his hands steady at work as he speaks to Trevor, and Trevor shuffles around nervously.

"Trevor, what did you really mean by boyfriend?" He looks down at me, again, with fear filled eyes.

"Don't worry about it for right now. Worry about getting better, okay?" I'm about to pester him more, when I realise that's what he's acting like.

"Alright, but expect me to pester you about it later." He nods but lets out a sigh for the temporary relief. "How's it looking?" I ask him. This time when he looks down, he doesn't immediately look away.

"It looks much better. All of the brown is gone, and he's cleaning it before closing it." Trevor looks at me and I don't know whether the relief is for me leaving him alone, me being almost done, or both. "He's getting ready to stitch it back up."

Dr. Kirsh speaks up. "I need to know if you can feel this." I wait for something, but it doesn't come. "I'll take that as a no. We can stitch you up without having to worry about numbing you again. I'm going to use stitches that will dissolve once they're no longer needed." Trevor watches Dr. Kirsh's hand sew my skin back up. Once he's done, I hear him remove his rubber gloves. "And we are done. You did beautifully Alice. Trevor, on the other hand, grow a stronger stomach. Can't have kids and be grossed out by something brown and sticky. That's half of what parenting is."

I laugh as Trevor's face morphs into one of disgust and horror. "Thank you doctor." I say once he's in view.

"No worries. It's good that Trevor called me when he did. If you had that fever for too long, it could have done some serious damage on your brain." Dr. Kirsh grabs a chart from the nurse. "We'll be moving you to a room soon, so just relax and let the numbing melt away. I'll be back to check on you tomorrow. Get some rest, both of you." With that he walks out, leaving Trevor standing.

"I'm going to go out and tell the others you're done. Try and go to sleep. I'll be here when you wake up." I nod and shut my eyes. His hand leaves mine and I listen for him until the door shuts.
