Healing

(A/N So I am just having a creative burst for this story, probably because I wish I was Alice, if that is her name ;P Anyways, I hope you enjoy reading this. *Disappears in a puff of smoke.*)

"Wake up Alice." My eyes slowly open, and I'm blinded by the sunlight coming into the room. My hands fly up to protect my face, but I'm restrained. "Someone shut that window." The light from behind my eyelids dwindles, and I try to open them again. "Hey." Trevor is sitting in a chair beside my bed. "Dr. Kirsh said it would be a good idea to wake you up, that way you can eat and he can ask you a few questions about how you're feeling." I try to roll over on the bed, but a sharp pain splits up my side.

"Ow." I say slowly. "I feel like someone sliced my side open."

James comes and sits at the edge of the bed. "That's because someone did, genius."

I turn my head and shoot him the glare of a killer. "I know someone did. I'm saying it hurts really bad."

"Oh, you mean you actually feel pain?" James says sarcastically. "I thought when I jabbed you in your side that you were impervious to pain."

"You did what?" Trevor asks James. His tone isn't particularly malicious, yet James looks at him with fear.

James pales and he back peddles. "It didn't hurt her or anything. She looked at me with a blank face and everything. I swear, I didn't hurt her."

"Is he telling the truth Alice?" Trevor looks at me and I sigh.

"To be honest, it did hurt, I just know how to ignore pain. Well, most pain. Some pains are too good to ignore." I look over at Trevor and I know I have effectively sidetracked him. I turn to James and mouth "You're welcome" to him.

James is thoroughly confused, but he stands up anyways, and gets the hell out of dodge. "You're on bed rest for the next four weeks. That's how long it will take this to heal." I groan, but he holds up a hand. "No argument. I allowed you to walk way too early. If you take a single step off of the bed, I will tie you down, and you will have to wait for me to come get you whenever you need something."

"I wouldn't fight girlie. You're getting what a bunch of girls wish they could get; Trevor Bane to wait on their every need." One of the cops says.

"What if I don't want Trevor Bane to wait on my every need? What if I want Trevor Bane to stick to his schedule and do what he always does?" I look at Trevor, and try to cross my arms.

"Ooh, burn buddy. Maybe next time." James pats him on the back, but Trevor just brushes his hand off of him.

"Well then you're SOL Alice, because I am prepared to work from home for the next four weeks, and to move my entire office into my bedroom so you will never have a chance to break a single rule." The look in his eyes is enough to burn me up. I know that during the four weeks he won't touch me, not even once, but hell, I want him to now.

I look at James. "Please, protect my sanity. Come and distract him." I place my hands together, and give him my best puppy dog eyes.

"Sorry Alice. I can't go against the boss's orders. If he says I can't come to the house, then I can't come to the house." His shoulders shrug dramatically and he gives me a sorry grin.

The guys all joke and laugh with each other. It doesn't take long for me to join in on the fun. Dr. Kirsh walks in a few minutes later, clipboard in hand. "Well Alice. You seem to have an armada here to protect you." He gives me a soft smile and he walks over to me. "May I?" He asks, gesturing to my side. I nod and he lifts up the hospital gown. After a few seconds of uncomfortable, and slightly painful pressure, he puts it back down. "Well, it's looking good so far. There's some slight leakage, but that is to be expected. I'll write you a prescription for a pain reliever, and I'll also give Trevor some medicated swabs to clean it with periodically. Just a warning, it doesn't smell the best, so Trevor plug your nose when you're putting it on."

Trevor turns his head to look at Dr. Kirsh. "You mean that I have to put medicine on her side?" He seems to be more than a little worried about the idea.

Dr. Kirsh looks over the rim of his glasses at Trevor then stands straighter. "Yes Trevor. That means that you have to put medicine on her side. I promise you that it does not look like it did while I was cutting out the infected flesh."

Trevor nods and looks down at me. I stifle a laugh and James walks over to Dr. Kirsh. "We can't thank you enough for rushing to the rescue. You may have saved our little Alice's life."

Dr. Kirsh places his pen in his breast pocket and looks over to James. "I did save her life. Now, I need to leave before the nurses notice the guest limit has exceeded its maximum in this room." He turns to smile at me again. "I'll be in touch with Trevor to check on you, and I will come over periodically to monitor how well you're healing. I suggest you stay in the hospital overnight again, just to make sure you don't go in reverse." He glances at Trevor before looking back to me. "But that would be up to you."

I nod at him and look to Trevor. "You can go back to the house and get some rest. I'll be back tomorrow."

"I won't be leaving until you leave Alice." A couple of the guys awe at him, but he throws a glare their way and they all shut up. "I think it's time you all went home. Some of you have wives, and they must be very worried about you." They shift around and look at each other before filing out and mumbling things under their breath. Trevor turns to Dr. Kirsh and addresses him. "In your opinion, do you feel that she will suffer from leaving the hospital today?"

Dr. Kirsh purses his lips and stares at me for a second. "Well she most likely won't, but I advise that she stay here. It's the safer option at the moment."

"Trevor, there's no need for you to stay here. I'm perfectly fine. It's a hospital for Christ's sake. If anything happens, I'll already be here for them to take care of me." I look up at him with my arms crossed as much as they can be. "Besides, my side is still weak and it feels like the numbing hasn't quite worn off yet." He sighs, but doesn't move to go. "Trevor, you should go before your ride leaves you."

He looks to the door as if contemplating leaving. "When can she be released?" He asks Dr. Kirsh.

Dr. Kirsh flips through his clipboard, stalling perhaps. "Well we need to check her vitals, run a few blood tests, just things to make sure she wasn't poisoned by the infection."

"How long will all of that take?"

"No, Trevor, I should stay here overnight." Trevor turns to look at me, and I think he was going to glare but caught himself.

"You'll be just as safe, and maybe even more safe at the house. Alice, my word is law, and you will come back." He turns back to Dr. Kirsh, leaving me to mull in my own anger. "Do what you have to do as quickly as possible. Once you're done and everything is cleared, we will go." Dr. Kirsh nods and leaves, and Trevor stands up from his chair. "Alice, I know that things happened between us, but that doesn't mean that you can start arguing with me over everything. Especially not in front of my own men. I know they may look like cops, but they are under my employment." I look away from him and stare at the window sill. There's an ant climbing up the wall and I watch it. "Alice." I don't look at him, because, duh, he's annoying me. "Alice, look at me when I speak to you." I turn my head away from him even more and he walks over to me. His fingers grab the sides of my chin and turn my face to him. Before he can win, I shut my eyes closed. "Damn it, Alice. Open your damn eyes." I keep them shut and he grips my chin a little tighter. A second later I feel his lips press against mine and my eyes open in shock. "That's better." He smirks at me before going on. "You're coming home. No more arguments, okay?" My head nods and he leans down to gently kiss my lips again. "Good girl." His hand releases my chin and he stands back up. "I'm going to go get something to drink, I'll be back in a few minutes. Don't get up, and if I see you off of that bed when I get back, you'll be on bed rest even longer than four weeks." He points at his eyes then directs his fingers at me. I raise my hands in surrender and he walks out.

I sigh once I'm alone and truly take in my surroundings. I'm in a small antiseptic room with a box tv and a sink to the right of my bed. There's a door beside the one Trevor walked out of, and I guess it is the bathroom. There's a white board across from my bed, and it has random information on it, such as who my doctor is, who the PA is on this floor, what our goal is for me being in the hospital, and a scale from 1 to 10 showing emojis with varying degrees of pain. As Trevor had said, he is back fairly soon. He walks back in carrying two water bottles and unscrews the lid off of one and hands it to me. "Thanks." I say as I take it out of his hand.

As the day progresses there is a flurry of nurses coming in and running tests, along with a nurse that draws blood. Three hours later and I'm sitting, fully dressed, on the edge of the hospital bed as Trevor signs the release paper.

"How come you can sign for me to be released? I think I'm capable of signing a sheet." I say as he hands the nurse back the papers.

"Because that wasn't just discharge papers. It was also a confidentiality agreement. If any nurse is asked about me being here, they will forget that it ever happened, along with forgetting anyone that was here with me." His arms slide under me and he gently scoops me up and against his chest.

I wrap my arms around his neck and lay my head against his chest. "Smart. I wouldn't have thought about that."

He's quiet the whole way down, and even as he places me in the passenger seat. I watch him drive, but he doesn't turn to look at me.

"Penny for your thoughts?" I ask, only half joking.

Trevor glances at me, but for the most part keeps his eyes on the road. "I'm thinking about my dad."

I think of how that could have come up, but I don't even remember either of us mentioning him. "Would it be rude to ask why?"

Trevor doesn't answer immediately and I almost give up on him answering, but he takes a deep breath and grabs the wheel tighter. "My dad never would have gotten attached to a girl so quickly." His voice drops at the end and I look over at him.

"Was your dad ever attached to anyone besides you?" I ask as I remember my dad's ways.

Trevor nods his head. "My mother." He pauses for a second before speaking up again. "They got married before he was anything; before he had money or power."

"Do you think I'm here for your money or your power?" I ask, curious.

He looks at me, almost shocked. "Of course not, I'm just thinking about how he would feel about me and well, you." We pull into his driveway and I stay quiet. "I don't think he would have been disappointed. I just don't know how he'd feel about you getting under my skin so easily."

"I'm under your skin?" Trevor parks the car and turns his head to me.

His eyes search mine for something. He speaks no louder than a whisper. "More than I thought possible."
