YOU DID RETURN THE following day, as promised.

When you returned to the cove, you did not see Hiccup or Toothless, which sent a pang of dread in your stomach. Where in Alpha can they be?! I wasn't gone for that long! You hissed in your mind and started to sniff aorund the soil finding the unmistakable scent of Hiccup and the musk of Toothless finally.

You groaned and sighed before taking flight. They better not be doing anything that I won't be doing, you thought and sped off towards their scent. You find them in the air, which is not what you thought it would be. They are training to fly. And well, uh... it's not going very well. You close in, scaring poor Toothless and Hiccup, so they falter in their flight. "sorry lad," you croon, smiling as you look at Toothless and Hiccup.

"not the time," he hisses and suddenly makes a sharp turn, and you yelp as he nearly smashes into you, but you beat your wings and rise higher. You watch from above as he and Hiccup tumble through the air, unsteady wings and tail not working together. Oh, for the love of Odin, you think as you roll your eyes at their attetimetn. You wish you had true healing powers so you could heal Toothless's fin, but then he wouldn't need the Scaleless, and to be honest, they make a good team when they are working.

So you fly above them, trying to keep out of the way as much as you can, making sure that they don't go plummeting to the ocean whenever their flight falters too much. But in the end, Hiccup seemed to get the flight thing under control, and you and Toothless smiled at each other. "well, that went longer than I thought," Toothless grumbled as the two of you glided side by side.

You chuckled and nodded before glancing at Hiccup, smiling proudly with his hands raised above his head as he cheered. You laughed and released a plasma blast folding your wings and going through it, turning invisible. "Y/N?! Toothless roars and you stop flying before letting out a laugh so he can locate you "where you are? Why can't I see you?" he says, and you hear the panic in his voice.

"I'm right here," you say and turn visible again. Toothless yelps, and so do Hiccup. "what trick were that?!" Toothless exclaims, and you shrug before flying at his side. "something I learned back home. It's easy; you just let a plasma blast and then dive through it. It didnt work at first, though, so you gotta try more than once" Toothless nodded but didn't try, and I knew why: the Scaleless on his back isn't strictly fireproof.

"let's get some rest, hmm?" I said, already spotting a lone baren island not far ahead. "yes," Toothless hummed, already growing tired. But can you blame him? he just learned to fly with Hiccup on his back; no wonder he's tried. We landed soon and cuddled up, Hiccup leaning against Toohtless's stomach and I on the other side, making a circle around the Scaleless. I never thought I would do this, but here I am, happy. I and Toothless ate our fish. Toothless offered some to Hiccup, but the Scaleless declined wisely, and we just sat and talked.

Suddenly I heard tiny roars and saw a pack of Small Sparks close in on us. Tools let out a growl and wrapped his paws around his fish, but I just looked untreated at the small Scalds. They were no match for me anyway.

When they got too close, however, I snapped at them, warning them, "back off and catch your fish" I snarled, and they sneered right back but didn't dare to attack me. I then noticed movement out of the corner of my eye and turned my head to see a tiny orange-colored Spark dragging out a salmon from Toothless's fish pile. I raised an amused brow as Toothless watched, surprised, before grabbing the fish and playing a slight tug of war round with the small Scaled. of course, Toothless won. He chuckled mockingly in the face of the Small Spark, who narrowed his eyes and spat out the small fish bone stuck in his mouth and stood defiantly.

He pawed at the ground before rearing his head back and readying his fire. But Toothless gave him no time and shot a small blast of plasma into its mouth. The poor Spark collapsed at once, and I winced. "poor thing," I crooned and nudged it as it staggered to its talons again. Toothless visibly rolled his eyes while I herded the small Scalded into my embrace where it could be warm again. "don't worry, I will not hurt you," you struck the sooty Scalded softly while it curled up before falling asleep.

I didnt know that Hiccup watched my interaction with the small Scalded, and he was awed. We were not those ruthless beasts that the storybooks told us of. No, we were beings with hearts and feelings. Well, when we wanted.

He had been brought up wrong about us. And he was going to tell his father about that. He knew he had to. They couldn't keep killing Scaleds anymore. It would never stop; even if they found the nest of the Scaldes, there would still be more coming. And it would end in blood and fire.

But it wouldn't come to that would Hiccup's father never find the nest at all. And Hiccup could show his village that Scaldes were not heartless beasts but kind, lovable creatures that would do everything for those they loved. I and Toothless were perfect examples of that. Hiccup leaned back against Toothless with a determined expression.

I will get the war to stop, and it will not be by killing the Scaldes, he thought and smiled as his friends talked back and forth and the sun started to go down. We got at least a calm evening.

That is one more than we could ask for.
