Tick tock tick tock

The sound of the ticking of the old clock in the usually crowded break room filled the room as a young boy with Ash blonde hair and sky blue eyes just sat there on the sofa in the break room, frowning as he was bending over the table, looking through the files of the newest case for clues.

"*Sigh* Why is this so difficult?!" The boy, 14-year-old Gabriel "Gaby" Walker, cried out after a while, feeling so frustrated that he was still unable to figure out who had killed the poor lady because there is absolutely no clues written in the report. If only he had gone to the actual scene to search for more clues about this case. He thought, sighing frustratedly. Unfortunately, because the crime scene was deemed too gruesome for a young boy of 13 to observe and search for evidence by the higher-ups, Gaby was forced to stay back in the academy to wait for news about the case, which had made him frustrated when he saw the documents because 1, he is not a damn kid that could not withstand the bloody sight of a damn corpse although he is a kid but his IQ is higher than the highest IQ ever recorded which is 180 and, 2. there are little to no clues about the killer, and if there are clues, it was irrelevant to the case which is as if the killer did not want to be identified, to not be found.

"Damn it!" Gaby cried out in anger and frustration, feeling defeated because this is the first time he had encountered a case like this and that the other older cold cases similar like this did not have that much of clues either about the killer, and he hoped that it could be solved soon.

Damn....that killer is just too smart and he outsmarted me....now what could I do to bring that killer to justice....? What can I do to even the odds...? Gaby thought hard, reading through the file again, trying to figure out the identity of the killer but was distracted by a light tap on his right shoulder. He turned around, annoyed, facing his bestest friend in the academy, the boy with jet black hair and sea blue eyes, 15-years-old Jacob "Jake" Alston.

"Hey man! Whoa! Chill! It's me! Your damnest best friend Jake!" Jake cried out in panic and alarm, and Gaby sighed in relief, his glare softening and he gave Jake a rare, genuine smile that he had not given in years.

"Hiya Jake! What brings you here? Oh, are you asking me for the notes for next week's small test? I thought I already gave you those..." Gaby began mumbling, worrying for Jake but Jake placed his hands on Gabe's shoulders, stopping Gaby from mumbling any further.

"Gabe, I was going to ask you to take a break. You have been staying here in the break room looking through this case file non-stop. It is no good for your health and your eyesight you know." Jake said softly and Gaby sighed.

"I know.....It's just-" Gaby said then stopped, not wanting to worry Jake any further but Jake caught his expression.

"It's just?" Jake asked, feeling worried for Gaby.

"It's just....I don't want the killer to continue his killing spree.....It's the first case after a long time and I...don't want another people to be killed...." Gaby said softly and was pulled into a hug by Jake.

"Oh baby.....my baby brother....I know how it feels but you can't stop death...Death is normal for us you know...." Jake softly reassured Gaby and Gaby started crying silently.

"I know but...."

"Shh..... baby....I know....." Jake whispered softly and Gaby started to calm down. After a few minutes, Gaby completely calm down and smiled at Jake, seeing Jake smiled back and Jake gave Gaby Gaby's cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows.

"Now you need to take a break and relax. I'll see you in a bit with dinner yeah? After all, I'm the best cook among our little group." Jake said with a playful wink and Gaby chuckled softly, seeing Jake's facial expression softened from his chuckle because Jake's lame jokes always managed to make him smile and laugh after he had been depressed for so long and Jake could see that and Jake had made a silent vow to make sure that Gaby will always be happy no matter what.

"Now take some rest. Will see you in a bit Gaby!" Jake said while grinning and Gaby laughed, nodding at Jake and relaxed on the couch in the break room, sipping on his hot chocolate which was made specially for him that was just nice, just like how he wants it. After a while, he noticed a disturbance in the air and was about to scream but before he could, he was whisked into the dark hole and had promptly passed out.

"Gaby? Dude? Are you there?"

Someone asked but the break room was empty with a dark stain on the white couch, untouched as if there wasn't anyone there in the first place.
