Fever Dream
A/N: This is inspired by the current April Fools dating sim Koi~suru Scramble, that crazy company but keep cooking! Endless Vide, another April Fools years ago and a twitter comic. I decide to be a truther and to be honest, this is less focused on Aira but more of the fact that I was once tempted to do this AU, tempted to make multi-chapters and decide to give you a fresh snippet before someone convinces me to just make the jump and start off a brand new work despite the number I already have as a fanfic writer T_T Just need to let this all out...
"Wah, Hiro-kun! Stop... stop being so close to me!" Aira shouted once again at the antics of his unitmate at StarPro's office by once again not knowing the meaning of personal space and getting too close to Aira out of his range, from behind without Aira ever knowing. By now, with all his time in this unit since Hiiro and Mayoi seemed to be masters at stealth, Aira should have gained some self-awareness of their presences... but somehow, no...!
Luckily, despite how flustered Aira felt, Hiiro hadn't intruded at the wrong moment since Aira was thinking of going to HoldHands to start checking for any messages and had since moved from a certain app that would have been downright embarassing for Hiiro to ever notice... not because of the app itself, but because of what Aira had done.
"Hmm, you seem to be more out of the zone than usual, Aira," Hiiro smartly observed damn him, "What's on your mind?"
"Not- nothing you should care about, Hiro-kun," Aira easily dismissed and cursing himself for stuttering at the beginning there, for immediately thinking about what he had been previously doing, how Hiiro would react and told himself to get it together. What he had been doing wasn't exactly related to Hiiro but...
"Anyway," Aira quickly changed the subject before his fantasies could get the better of him, "Where are Mayo-san and Tatsun-senpai?"
The reason why Aira had been in the offices all this time had been to wait for the rest of ALKALOID members for a job that they would sooner get from their agency and he had been the first to arrive. Idling away his time and letting himself indulge in his otaku habits, he had opened his fanfic account, one that was used mostly to add fanfictions, debate in comments and ocassionally write mostly AUs and even some... ships. Not that he would ever real life ship his favorite idols ever but there is certain... teasing between some pairs of idols that Aira could very well understand a multishipper's heart.
Currently, despite the many ongoing fanfiction that Aira possessed, he had been inspired to write yet another one before the idea totally went away and shock his fellow otakus to the core. It was also an outlet for his guilty pleasure desires and to shake off a certain... recurring dream that he had nights prior. Nothing better than having something to just write it down and laugh about later. Even so, he wouldn't be caught dead writing or making art of any of this stuff in front of his beloved idols.
He swore he wasn't doing anything illegal but there was so much he could get away and an idol's scrunity would get to him and that was the last thing he wanted. Even though Hiiro was closer to a friend than a worshipped idol since they were at the same starting line, he would still find it mortifying for Hiiro to find out about this particular fanfiction. Hiiro still lacks tact here and there, so it would not be surprising if Hiiro accidentally ask questions loudly to Aira about a fanfiction of Rinne and Niki that could be easily overheard...
Aira was still blushing about this one but decisively had a clear conscience. Unfortunately, in this particular AU, it was a ship fic but for all good reasons...
***
Two decisive pieces clicked for Aira to start having recurring dreams and later jotting them down to a glorious fanfiction that unfortunately hit a little too close to home. The first piece was the Koi~suru Scramble film where Aira had played as female supporting lead from an adapted shoujo manga with other actors such as Hajime who became the protagonist and Eichi, Niki, Madara and Natsume as the love interests.
It was quite sudden to be pulled into filming like that when Aira and Hajime were just enjoying themselves in the cafe but he had been more than happy to help and was at awe of seeing Hajime in the generic long black haired wig for the femalte protagonist. Acting as the female supporting lead allowed him to get a closer view of all the shoujo / otome worthy scenes any otaku with a fanfic soul would give their heart for in making a well-deserved AU. An AU that had already released its PV and were gladly eaten up by fans. Even Aira seeing it would have gotten a fewe noseebleeds like some other fans if it wasn't for the fact that Aira (nearly) gotten used to his idol friends already.
Since Aira was just the supporting character, Airi (very original but also so cute in its own way), he wasn't really in the PV much, just a cameo or his voice asking who Hajime would pick so it was obvious that Airi was just a supporting character to be friends with Hajime and help with his, or her in this setting, love life.
And yet... yet, there were comments about being Hajiairi truthers and going yuri all the way which had made Aira blushed. Was his long curly blonde hair really that beautiful for fans to start wishing there was a way to romance his character too in Koi~suru? Then again, it was an adapted shoujo manga so maybe the truthers already existed but the fact that they said that Aira was very in character with Airi and wished they could be in the protagonist's shoes... well... that one takes a bit getting used to.
It was the Eimiki, one of the other ships that gotten fans crazy since the PV not only came with that video intro but a description of the adapted shoujo manga so fans knew too well about the characters portrayed in the PV, with special information about said characteristics.
Eimiki, the Eiki x Miki ship that stars both Eichi and Niki respectively (with their names being too similar to each other between character and actor... once again) was what Aira too particluarly focused on among other ships because he found some appeal to the dynamic. The childhood friends, with Miki wishing Eiki happiness and when Hajime comes in, Eiki wanting to wish Miki that certain happiness and yet Miki calling it bullshit. Knowing each other too well, going after the same girl and yet... yet...
There was also the fact about the actors, which adds a certain flavour to this ship. Eichi and Eiki are similar to each other, considering a rich heir and school prince don't seem too far off. Considering the gentle, calm and mature nature that they both exude, he found the casting perfect choice.
As for Niki... it was a little funnier because the role of Miki almost felt better suited for Rinne who exhibits bluntness, a foul mouth and salty attitude with a suprisingly kind side better than anyone but Rinne was not casted for this role because he didn't exude the high school vibes that the shoujo manga rather have so they chose the next best option.
Yes, they chose Niki because they thought that he could just follow Rinne's example and work it out compared to HiMERU who could have been another candidate if he wasn't so calm looking and would have been more of a second choice as Eiki than Miki. Also, maybe whoever decided to cast the actors decided to be funny because Niki... Miki... just one letter.
It was hilarious to see that side of Niki though, and he could never say that filming was never a dull moment but truthfully, any of his thoughts about Eimiki were just as fleeting and frazzled as Hajiairi and nothing much would have happened about it... if not for the second piece.
The second piece was some time before the filming, at a certain Dramatica play that Aira was fortunate to watch since he loves watching idols and it was a space themed play starring Hokuto. From insider scoops (that Aira promised, with fingers crossed at his back, that he didn't eavesdrop of), tthe play was changed drastically in the last few days to accomodate Hokuto's sudden idea that he got from a dream which made it a smashing success. He only heard a little from Eichi and courageously bribed Hokuto with konpei in a moment of sating his never ending curiosity but although Hokuto said that the dream was now vague at best, he remembered about idols going to space in mobile transformer suits to fight against each other and gain idol energy for a new future as a setting.
Whatever happened in the story, in Hokuto's perspective was cut short with the idea of a missing Subaru, suddenly being attacked by Rinne of all people who proclaimed that this new space idol thing was a load of BS because of implied Niki's death since he was the closest friend to Rinne and that it was Eichi who somehow covered it up behind the scenes with clones and were fighting with three Eichi clones beefore he abruptly woke up. That explained the clones at the middle of the play then~
Now, here's the question, if he heard about the so-called second piece of the puzzle before the first piece of the puzzle, then how did he think so little of Eimiki before? It was because the pieces of puzzles were used to trigger the dream that let loose the ship realizations. A dream, that was supposed to be forgettable in a waking moment and yet stayed glued with ideas spinning around and no outlet to solve. And so many burning questions... Aira could still recall...

Dreams were funny things, fragmented as they come and jumping through the timeline with the dreamer aware of what happened in between even not experiencing themselves. In such dreams, they would usually take their own point of views, so logically speaking, Aira would have been Airi if the dream was about the recent Koi~suru Scramble but instead it was an outsider's POV, set out in space which had been surprising and in his thoughts, he could make out a dying... Rinne.
Dreams were a funny thing where the dreamer cannot act and only watched, can understand their character's thoughts perfectly as if they were the watcher from a show created by their own subconscious but even then the subconscious was not good enough to exactly make a vivid movie and hence a fragmented state. Aira did not really hear the thoughts of said dying Rinne but as the dream moved from one segment to another, he instinctively understood what happened and filled the words himself...
"I am... finally dying. It was time for me to kick the bucket anyway, even if I do have regrets. Niki... if I could have seen you-"
The next segment was surprising because Niki was right in Rinne's face that turned out to be Miki, from the shoujo manga and that Rinne was actually Hiiragi Ren even when he was still in the same 'space cosplay' that he had died in. It was in his ID and it was a good thing that he didn't say what he thought was his real name.
Dreams rarely filled the gaps so it was unknown whether it was reincarnation or transmigation but it was more likely that Rinne had a place home and possibly family while he rudimented about this sudden turn. At that time, he had carelessly hugged 'Niki' because he had been overwhelmed about meeting someone alive again, before his senses told him it might be one of those crazy clones and then subsequently pushed off by 'Niki' to say what was wrong and that he got the wrong guy.
Relevation after relevation followed for Rinne, with a new identity that Niki was actually Miki and Eichi's sudden appearance, who Miki introduced as Eiki and lived next door. At first, Rinne was extremely aggresive towards Eiki, that Miki held off which was why Rinne found about the childhood friends. Then, Rinne noted that Miki was different from Niki, that Miki acted more like Rinne which confused him and that Eiki acted like Eichi the bastard that caused him his pain which did not help.
No longer being in space and somewhere in 'Yumenosaki Town', it had been laughable to Rinne because he remembered there was Yumenosaki School in Japan before idols launched themselves to space and started off the Transformer project. There were a lot of plot speculations to go from there, from the Yumenosaki Town to be some kind of simulation instead of doing all those transformer fights although he wasn't sure how that came to play, of Eiki and Miki that was really pissing him off...
Actually, around then, he didn't care about what was happening and just that Eiki and Miki being neighbors and childhood friends was pissing him off. It didn't matter that Eiki was not Eichi and Miki was not Niki. It was something he couldn't grasp at. There was a possibility that he didn't die and this was all a mind game from Eichi, which was not a far off possiblity considering what he would do for his idols, of what happened at the space idol project...
And Rinne also missed Niki and Miki... even if he acted similarly to Rinne than Niki... even if it was just a clone, or a dream (irony), he wanted to get closer to Miki. He wanted to clear some regrets no matter how messed up it was.
Another segment landed in the high school in Yumenosaki Town, this time in Hajime and Airi's perspective. A shift that Aira grogily did not expect but played along, when the two girls were gossiping and for Rinne, more known as Ren, to enter the fray and spot Airi. Considering the time at space, the idols were still the same with similar background so it was obvious that he could recognize 'Aira' in a glance in the form of Airi. It was yet another aggresive surprise with Hajime screaming when Rinne forcefully grabbed Airi's hand and then Miki came up, another encounter, that started off bad blood which already soured Rinne's weird relationship with Miki.
Even then, Airi was courageous enough to meet with Rinne a little while later, after accepting Rinne's apology because of Rinne's younger brother and being aware of Rinne's behaviour and understood the 'dissociative amnesia' story that Rinne made up on the spot. It helped Rinne re-orient himself about the world he found himself, whether it was simulation or not remained to be seen.
Rinne was surprised to see familar faces, although centering more around Eiki, Miki, Konatsu that reminded him of Natsume and Mahiro who reminded him of Madara. It was almost a relief that it wasn't only Miki that acted differently with Niki like Konatsu and Natsume having their differences about being a basketball player and magician respectively. Although there was some differences, Rinne perceived some similarities meaning that the Miki he wanted to know might still have esome Niki vibes he could get to.
But that was a wrong route to take because Miki could not be the Niki that Rinne remembered and forcing such idealism didn't endear him to Miki while Eiki noticed something amiss and tried to help which Rinne harshly rebuked because he could not get rid of the prejudice between former and present life. When Rinne somewhat realized this with ever helpful female friend supporting role Airi, Rinne tried to change his approach with Miki, and slowly Miki gets to know Rinne.
It could have been friendship, but Eiki made things complicated not out of his own volition mind you. There was the fact that Rinne cannot shake off his prejudiced hatred although he tried. Eiki and Miki being childhood friends meant their bonds allowed them to read each other better and then... several plots to make this a spicy love triangle that fans would love~
Well, before anyone asked what's up with the lack of explanation, Aira was having a dream! So if he can't remember every detail, so well sue him. He would later be working on such plot points later in the fanfiction but for now, when he woke up from such a startling dream, he did not even hesitate to write down what he could remember in his notes before asking himself why he had done so.
Among any fluffy or twist scenes that he could remember was Rinne and Niki kabedon and Eichi witnessing it, Rinne's flashbacks and being lap pillowed by Niki, Rinne and Eichi squaring off with each other, cooking... most definitely cooking. Definitely visiting each other's houses and then...
Unfortunately, the cupped water of dreams drained out until there is nothing left and Aira was left with his half-baked notes... which he surprisingly could not find himseslf to delete even if it was a starting love triangle AU story of his unitmate's brother, the brother's unitmate and his boss.
It was just a fancy and he could do away with this fancy by deleting those notes, forget about writting it and went back to his life.
Unfortunately, or fortunately for readers who loved this content, Aira couldn't bring himself to do it and found himself in research, of the shoujo manga and the space drama to finally... finally...
***
"Do I publish this, or do I not publish this?" Aira whispered to himself under his bed sheet covers as he read the simple summary he laid out for this story, referencing it as a crossover between the space drama Dramatica starred in, something seen by the general public, and Koi~suru scramble although it heavily leaned in towards the latter with the former actually referencing Hokuto's dream but Aira had to be... subtle about it.
In his nervousness, Aira had reread the summary at the dead of the night with his two other roommates sleeping (at least Eichi but he was unsure about Rei with the usual vampiric habits) and giving him enough privacy because he will drop dead if they, especially Eichi, find this out. Just mere hours ago, he had almost been caught by Hiiro in the act but had lucky timing to switch to Holdhands and then work with the rest of ALKALOID. During that time, he had been trying to perfect the first chapter of this new AU, with notes ready and plot points that he had decided on although for story's sake, could go off the fly. It had taken some time, and Aira had thought many times of deleting it but...
"Am I going to die here, with all these regrets? To kick the bucket now, but that ain't bad either. I... just wish to see you again Niki."
Those would be the last thoughts Rinne Amagi would have in the final battle between the final boss, to overthrow the space idols and get some vengeance for Niki. He didn't even know the final outcome or the aftermath, but he knew the risks he would be pulling and even with regrets, at least could not regret dying. He thought he would see Niki again, but...
"Oh, Onii-san, your finally awake? I wouldn't be caught dead in that spacesuit your wearing. You drunk? Got a phone? Anyone I should call now?"
Not like this!
Aira was satisfied with the impact of such a summary with the top heading of it being the alternate crossover and the tags he had put in, emphasis on a love triangle although he had no idea how he would do it. Even then, it didn't stop his finger from hovering over the publish button because once he had done it, committed to it...
He knew that fanfic writing was different from others, out of one's own pleasure than monetary value from others. Even if he would one day lose interest in continuing the fic, readers would understand and might even be glad that this piece was published than not at all. But even then, he wasn't sure whether he was up to it, because despite his research and his curiosity of the story taking form and making it through the end... there was so much unknown. Because the space drama and Hokuto's dream was slightly different making the threads harder to connect when he would have to deal with Rinne's flashbacks and expanding the backstories.
Because he was using ES idols over the actual characters of the shoujo manga from Koi~suru Scramble, the balancing act was going to be tough because he was basing this off from the PV, what he knew about idols and then...
And then, even with the first chapter, how was he supposed to make the story progress? How could he give justice to idols? He must not falter as an idol otaku, expert at a lot of otaku activities from fanboying at idol stages to making fanart and fanfictions for other fans rather than idols themselves even though it would be considered as a tribute...
And lastly, he had to make sure that anyone else couldn't find this out, within the growing blackmail of fanart and fanfics that he have made. At least he can explain some of his fanart away because he could wildly make excuses they were design ideas for other idols and laugh it off but fanfiction was different...!
All those doubts, but in the end... Aira was an idol, an idol fan who loves idols too much and a bit of a creative. He loved idols, he was writing a story about idols and even when there's angst along the way... it was also just an AU, so... so...!
And wouldn't it be a waste to already throw away all his notes, that chapter writing, a good summary and the title he had made up:
Falling From The Universe Into Your Arms
Well... that was a good title to set for the first chapter and matched the summary and would make sense for the overall story, just wait and see! After all, just like in the dream, it was mostly from Rinne's POV even though it was Niki in between of this love triangle...!
Well, title could be changed or he could just published it as it is now. But is he sure that he wanted to publish it, considering what happened with the time Mika read fanfiction of himself even if it was an AU and not being receptive to it. But if Aira was careful for the parties involved...
Although Aira could live solely for idols, his creative side decided to give him such a dilemna, one that he could not do away so easily. Ugh... what should he do? But eventually, Aira would have to make a decision.
So, Aira finally decided to...
A/N: So did Aira publish the fanfiction or not? Well, think of this as a little self-inserting and I hope it doesn't OOC Aira as much because he is somewhat of a fanboy. He also likes fanfiction, since he wasn't opposed to it at one of Mika's scout story and it was also an AU... which in hindsight, might not bode well considering Mika's scout story. But then, do you want to see the love triangle of Rinniki and Eimiki happening? Ever since April Fools, I have been actually tempted but a bit scared of actually writing it because there's so much to account for and how can I see the story to the end. Honestly, I want a little push and your opinions. For fun, I can even write the story as if it was Aira writing it and using the notes as a way to give Aira's thoughts writing this fanfiction. But that's just a bonus~ In any case, through Aira's collection, I hope you still have fun reading it. I haven't been writing much lately but uni is being too much with the workload and in holiday, I got a cold so my brain wasn't up to it so a chapter like this was what I needed to get a kick in my gear. Also, I can try making a book cover but anyone with the art to make Rinne falling into Niki's arm from space is welcome to try~
