Chapter Four

"Hadrian and Mevia were indeed heading to this world to attack me, however they never mentioned hurting anyone else. Hadrian stated that he didn't want to commit to it, though this could be because I was there as he spoke" Radar looked up at me, waiting for more info. I sighed. "That's all he told me..." I finished up. Radar flicked through his notes and started to scribble in his notepad once more. He constantly, flicked between a few certain pages and either crossing out info or re-writing it once more. Finally, he stopped and looked up at me

"So..." He started. "Hadrian and Mevia came to this world looking to attack you, most likely for you taking their reign at the games, however Hadrian claims to have not wanted to do this to you, though it's unknown if he's lying at this point in time. Hadrian also mentioned him and Mevia getting along for one night then immediately the next night both are distraught after an argument, meaning they were in this world for two days at minimum before they were caught in the fire. We can also assume this argument took place during the day. Then once the fire hit, the two followed the passive mobs to the riverbank and dove in one after another to escape the fire. Unfortunately, a burning tree fell on the two. Hadrian shielded Mevia from the attack and received the large gash on his back, along with significantly more injuries than Mevia, however Mevia is thought to have been struck by a branch on her head indicated by the splinters the doctors found in her wound, causing her to blackout and fall unconscious for a longer amount of time than Hadrian. How the two did not drown is unknown, though it's plausible the current pushed them to the shore, saving their lives. Then the next day, around early afternoon, you and madam Petra returned with them in the state you found them, before giving them proper treatment. As of their last check-up, Mevia is healing well though has not come to consciousness, Hadrian however is healing at a much slower rate than Mevia is, though as of today he is at full consciousness"

"That's all the information we have as of now?" I asked him once he finished up. Radar nodded.

"I've been taking note of everything since you and Madam Petra brought them in" He stated. "I thought it would be good to keep track of their history before the event occurred and their condition as of now. I thought it would help to know all this so the doctors can treat their wounds knowing the timeline of events and how they were caused, and for us to help them by being aware of any hurtful events they went through before the fire, like the argument. When we're aware of these factors, we can help them more efficiently" I smiled at Radar as I nodded my head in understanding

"It's great you've been keeping track of all this Radar" I said. "This is very helpful information" Radar smiled nervously

"Just trying to do my job Jesse" he replied. "I'll admit, I was already nervous when you hired me to become your intern, but this event has really scared me..." I gave Radar a concerned look. I hadn't thought much on how he was feeling throughout this event, but this would be scary to a new recruit like Radar. I placed my hand on his shoulder, making him look me in the eyes. I smiled sadly

"I'm scared to Radar" I admitted. "Hadrian and Mevia hurt me in the past, and I'm afraid they might still want to do that, but not just to me, but to my friends as well, including you..." Radar looked at me, surprised I had called him a friend. I smiled sadly as I continued "But even with this fear of mine, I still want to help them recover. As for you Radar, you have handled this situation extremely well, much better than I would've done if I was in your position. You've not only kept your cool in most of these situations, but you've been noting down every important detail and have been a large help in Hadrian and Mevia's recovery. I'm glad I hired you" I tussled Radar's hair lightly as I said that, making him blush lightly

"Th-Thank you Jesse" He stuttered. "I-I'm glad to be w-working with you a-and the rest of the Order" I smiled

"And we're glad you're working with us to" I said. Radar smiled shyly as he pulled out his notepad again, though before we could continue our discussion, the doctors all came out and greeted us, however the grim looks on their faces worried me...

"Madam Jesse, we have some alarming news..." One announced. I exchanged nervous glances with Radar

"About who?" I asked cautiously

"Both patients madam" Another answered. "Madam Mevia is unfortunately stuck in a coma as of now. We'll have to monitor her closely from now on. We're not sure when she'll wake up..." I gasped lightly. In the corner of my eye, I saw Radar taking note on that, however his hand was shaking as he did so

"And... Hadrian...?" I asked cautiously

"Sir Hadrian's wounds have been difficult for us to fix" One explained. "Healing potions have had no effect on him and he only seems to be growing weaker every day, despite coming to consciousness. The most damaging wound is the gash on his back, which has paralysed his whole body not including his head and neck, and has showed no improvements. We're very sorry madam Jesse, but..."

"He won't live for much longer..."

I froze as I heard the doctor speak that last sentence. I heard a clink on the ground as Radar dropped his pen, shocked from the information we were just given. I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to believe it... He was going to die. Hadrian was going to die... I was able to look up at the doctors, despite my shock.

"H... How much longer will he live for?" I asked them, worry creeping into my tone.

"We predict about a month or so" A doctor spoke up. "Unfortunately, we cannot get precise with time or dates on this factor, so he may live for either a longer or shorter amount of time than we predict" I heard Radar shuffling as he picked his pen back up, now shaking. I felt my hands shake a little as well as I processed what I had just heard. Mevia was in a coma, and Hadrian was going to die in a month or so... I took a deep breath and looked back at the doctors

"Thank you for informing us on this change" I was able to stay calmly. "And thank you for trying to help Hadrian as best as you can. Has been informed on this?"

"He has" a doctor replied. "He is aware he will not live for much longer" I nodded, trying my hardest to keep my cool

"I see" I said. "Thank you very much." I said with a bow

"You're most welcome madam Jesse" A doctor replied. "Two of us will be back to monitor Mevia very soon. Until then, please watch over our patients" I nodded my head as Radar took the note down with shaky hands. After the exchange, the doctors headed out of the temple. Once they were gone, I exhaled and turned to Radar with a worried look, which he returned

"I'm going to check on Hadrian" I told him. "Radar, can you watch Mevia until the doctor's return?" Radar nodded his head

"O-Of course" He stammered. Without another word, we both parted ways as we went to check on the Old Builders. I didn't know what I felt at the moment... I was just shocked that Hadrian was going to die... Was this my fault? Did I not get him treated quickly enough? Did I injure him further on the ride back? I shook my head. It was best I don't blame myself for something that wasn't influenced by me. Hadrian had just unfortunately gotten an unhealable wound that is slowly killing him every second that passes by... As I approached the room, there was complete silence... I knocked on the door lightly, before coming in. Hadrian was awake, looking out the window, though he turned his attention to me once I had entered.

"You heard the news, didn't you...?" He asked me. He had no tone in his voice, monotone if you will.

"Yes..." I replied as I took a seat by his bed. I placed my hand on his shoulder gently and gave him a sad look. "Hadrian, I'm so sorry..." I said sadly. "I really am..." Hadrian's expression didn't change. I wasn't sure if he was upset or not about this, or if he was even concerned, at least about himself

"... What about Mevia?" He asked me. "Is she OK? Is she going to live...?"

"I... I don't know" I answered. "The doctors told me she's in a coma right now..." Hadrian reacted to this news. He gasped, his expression shifting from nothing to shock, then instantly wiping to sadness and regret. He was completely silent for a moment, almost in shock from hearing this news

"I... I couldn't save her..." He whispered. "No..." Hadrian started to tear up once more

"Hadrian..." I started. "It's OK, I'm sure she'll wake up..." Hadrian frowned a little. From the look he gave me, he didn't believe me. He looked away, back out to the window once more

"You don't know how much she means to me..." He whispered sadly. "You don't know how close we really are..." Before I could question him on this statement, he continued. "I didn't finish before, did I?"

"Finish?" I asked.

"How Mevia and I got here. There's... The rest isn't very important, but I think you should at least know about our... Argument..."

"I..." I muttered. I wasn't sure. I had already heard enough of the story for it to anger me, wouldn't hearing the argument just anger me more? To my surprise, Hadrian gave me a sad and pleading look

"Please Jesse" He begged. "I... I need to get this all off my chest and there's no one else I can tell... I... I only have Mevia, and now... She might-" I put my hand up, indicating for him to stop

"Hadrian, it's OK" I told him. "I'm here, and I'm here to listen whenever" I placed my hands gently in my lap "Whenever you're ready" Hadrian nodded and started almost immediately;

"Mevia and I weaved through the forest as the sun started to set, scurrying back to our sturdy shack..."
