Teach me: IV
Part IV: Racial descrimination (TW)
------------------------------
Teach me that
Black lives matter
and never say "n!gg@r"
Not if you're "white" at least
'Cause God knows
that those sticks and stones
run long in the tooth
and deep in the bones
For some
it's a term of endearment
For me it's form of taboo
But if words can be used
to include or negate
Who now, segregates who?
But yes, speak your mind
Free Americans
Now that America's White again
Feel free to state
your vitriol, your hate
Your Manifest Destiny
If all lives truly mattered to you
Why does Philando Castile still bleed?
****************
Note: (TW) Trigger warning: By no means does this poem wish to express that racial discrimination is something relative. The taboo of using a so-called derogatory term like "nigger" can hardly compare to the 500 years oppression Black brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, families and communities have had to endure throughout our shared history. Thank gods for comedic lights, the likes of Dave Chappelle, who sees all people as "niggers", who casts an honest light on the madness of a racially-divided America and who teaches the willing, the art of recovering our humanity through laughter.
