( song of the day :
walk you home - nct dream )

taeil silently watched as people of diversity walked past him after finally being dismissed from the hellhole they like to call an office. he hated this job, but he couldn't even bring himself to resign. confusing, right?

"sir! sir!" he heard an enthusiastic voice come closer. it was youngmi, the girl who gave him a free slurpee. her brown hair, that was now tied into a messy ponytail, kept bouncing, since she practically hopped like an adorable bunny. "are you taking the bus?"

"no, my condominium unit isn't that far," taeil replied. the two of them started walking at the same pace, not minding the sidewalk that was brisk with people.

youngmi's eyes widened in surprise, that toothy beam still marked on her lips. her fingers gripped on the ends of her purple backpack. "wow, you live in a condo? that's cool!"

he chuckled at the energy the girl exuded. she was like sunshine. the brightness she spread all over her surroundings was mystical. never has he found someone so genuinely joyful until this girl.

"i realized that we haven't formally introduced ourselves," youngmi said. halting her continuous steps, she stuck her hand out for him to shake, to which he did. "i'm ji youngmi!"

"moon taeil."

"so that's why you look so sad most of the time." she clasped her two hands together as if she achieved something so grand. "get it? it's because your name is moon, and you're seen in the night, and the night can sometimes look really saddening."

that statement was followed by a loud fit of her laughter. she already was gasping for air because of how funny she thought her joke was. the boy remained amused.

taeil couldn't help but point out, "you're such a happy person."

"well," she began, "i don't wanna waste my whole life with only frowning and complaining. there are so many beautiful things in life that are there to be appreciated! my mother didn't get her stomach stitched just to give birth to a frowny child, am i right?"

with those impactful words, taeil realized his ungratefulness towards his life that would be considered luxurious to others. he never knew that a cashier at 7-eleven would be the one to blast him back to reality.

"what are you waiting for, mr. moon taeil? let's continue walking!"
