Chapter 3: A fair match up

I run over to the arena to meet Tim. I make it just in time.

Tim is wrapping his wrists. He hears me come in and he throws a wrap to me. I catch it easily.

"You ready?" I ask him as we circle each other. I'm in a sports bra, shorts, and wearing no shoes. Tim is also in shorts and is bare foot, but he doesn't have a shirt on. I can't stop looking at his six pack, toned legs, and his strong arms. I'm not half bad either. I'm toned from sword fighting, my legs are strong from running from all those monsters, and my blue-gray eyes are intimidating to most people. I have my messy blonde hair in a French braid down my back. On my right leg, is my sport brace I use when I'm running or training. I'm drooling over Tim.

"Yeah if you are," Tim says and I throw a left hook at him. It catches him off guard and I hit him square in the chest, knocking the wind out of him.

"I'll take that as a yes," Tim says and he flips over my head and hits me on my spine. It hurts, but I don't go down. Tim looks surprised at that.

"How are you still standing?" he asks me. I spin and kick at him with my right leg. He catches it and flips me. I end up landing on my face and biting the inside of my cheek. I get up and wipe away a bit of blood from my mouth. I give Tim what most people call my 'Cheshire smile' and charge at him. We end up too tried to raise our fists.

"You're good, for a girl," Tim says. I give him yet another glare then I turn to leave. I stop when I hear screeching in the distance. Harpies, and boy do they sound hungry.

"Tim get down!" I shout at him. Tim quickly lays down flat against the ground. I thought there weren't any more harpy night portals. I guess I am wrong.

"Tim, we have to get out of here, now," I say into his ear. He nods his head and I take off running toward the forest. I can hear Tim hot on my trail, but I focus on my breathing and my footsteps. Even though I can't see the trail that I'm following, my feet know it by heart. Tim on the other hand, is trying to keep up with me. The key word is trying. He's not doing a great job of it. I spin, dart other, grab his hand, and take off running deeper into the forest.
